"Leader" Marián Kotleba
Pecuch, Valentín ; Kubátová, Hana (advisor) ; Kuľková, Miroslava (referee)
Personalization of politics has become a global phenomenon nowadays. Politicians are becoming more frequently characterized by their personal qualities, and are becoming more and more prominent at the expense of their parties. My bachelors thesis is focused on personalization of far-right groups and parties, more particularly on the personalized leadership of Marian Kotleba throughout his political career. The aim of the thesis is to analyze, to what extend does Marian Kotleba meet the indicators of a personalized leader. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter focuses on the theoretical basis, while the second sketches political biography of Marian Kotleba and political groupings and parties Slovak Togetherness, Slovak Togetherness - National Party and Kotlebists - People's Party Our Slovakia. The third part is concerned with categorizing personalized leadership of Marian Kotleba and analysis of indicators typical for personalized leaders. Resulting from our analysis, Marian Kotleba met most of the indicators marking a personalized leader. This confirms the claim that far-right parties usually have very strongly personalized leaders. However, this far-right orientation becomes a handicap, because state limited Kotleba in some instances.
Media and Political Power. Comparing the Position of Journalists in Slovakia during the Robert Fico and Vladimír Mečiar Governments
Doubravová, Barbora ; Kubátová, Hana (advisor) ; Franěk, Jakub (referee)
This bachelor thesis analyses the position of journalists during the Robert Fico (ie. in 2006- 2010, 2012-2016 and 2016-2018) governments and compares it with the situation of journalists in Slovakia during the era of "Mečiarism" in the 1990s. The murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée in February 2018, which reopened the issue of media freedom and the position of journalists in the country, was the impetus for choosing the topic. The thesis is based on theoretical works dealing with the position of the media in democracy, media freedom and the relationship between the media and politics. Furthermore, it largely focuses on the analysis of relations between journalists and politicians in both periods and draws conclusions on this basis. The aim of my thesis is to find out how the position of journalists under Robert Fico has changed, or on the contrary resembled the situation in the 1990s. The thesis emphasizes the comparison of specific tools and pressures that were used to restrict media freedom in both periods.
Representation of women in the French parliamentary elections in 2012 and 2017
Součková, Alžběta ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Kubátová, Hana (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with a comparative analysis of the elections to the French National Assembly in 2012 and 2017 in terms of the representation of women among candidates and among elected deputies. The representation of women in the National Assembly is presented in the historical context of women in the political space from the French Revolution, through the gain of women's suffrage after World War II, to the Parity Act in 2000, which introduces legal quotas for women's representation in political institutions and functions. The thesis deals with factors that affects women's entry into politics and their number, such as the French Fifth Republic's electoral system in elections to the National Assembly or setting quotas for women's representation, as well as indicators that determine the real power and importance of women in politics. The comparison of the legislative elections in 2012, when the Socialist Party won, and the legislative elections in 2017, when the new political group En Marche won the majority, deals mainly with different approches of political parties to the law of parity and gender equality and then also with differences in filling key positions in the National Assembly. The conclusion of the thesis presents the results of the analysis, which will either confirm or...
The aspects of representative democracy in churches associated in the Ecumenical Council of Churches of the Czech Republic
Kobylka, Petr ; Kubátová, Hana (advisor) ; Vinš, Petr Jan (referee)
The thesis analyses the elements of representative democracy in the structures of churches associated in the Ecumenical Council of Churches of the Czech Republic. Although churches have not a generally democratic structure, the author examines whether they contain elements of representative democracy, according to the criteria for the functioning of democracy given by Robert Dahl. The thesis is also based on the work of Luca Badini Confalonieri, who describes the issue of democracy within the Roman Catholic Church in his publication. The thesis outlines the roots of democracy in churches in the books of Old and New Testaments of the Bible and the church history, especially in the context of religious diversity in the Czech lands. The historical core of the problem is how to properly appoint leaders of ecclesial communities, whereas this problem is already being described in the Bible. Furthermore, the work deals with the organizational structures of twelve selected churches in the Czech Republic, examines the methods of election or appointment of their representatives and bodies. For this purpose, the church was divided into three categories - the Roman Catholic Church, churches with an episcopal element, protestant synodal-congregational, and congregational churches. The work also points to...
Storytelling and Reconciliation: Shifts in Frames and Discursive Narratives in Listeners of the Initiative "My Story" in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Oberpfalzerová, Hana ; Aslan, Emil (advisor) ; Stojarová, Věra (referee) ; Kubátová, Hana (referee)
Storytelling and Reconciliation: Shifts in Frames and Discursive Narratives in Listeners of the Initiative "My Story" in Bosnia and Herzegovina Hana Oberpfalzerová Abstract In Bosnia and Herzegovina, two non-governmental organizations have been running the initiative "My Story" within which three war victims, one Bosniak, one Serb and one Croat, tell their wartime stories and their way to reconciliation in public testimonies in a side-by-side, live setting to an audience of young people or ordinary citizens. The aim of the initiative is to promote reconciliation in the listeners. This doctoral dissertation integrates several disparate fields in order to create an analytical framework for inferring attitude shifts from the discursive narratives recalled by the listeners, and from the frames that connect the single narratives to broader societal discourses within these discursive narratives. Three public testimonies were analyzed and interviews with eighteen listeners from the three Bosnian nations were conducted, some of which were interviewed by phone about four months later to check for further attitude changes. The interview material was analyzed inductively by the means of thematic discourse analysis in order to identify the underlying discursive narratives that were then regrouped into dimensions or...
The Denial of Holocaust in the Czech Republic
Galstyan, Elen ; Kubátová, Hana (advisor) ; Charvát, Jan (referee)
The master thesis focuses on the denial of holocaust in the Czech Republic. In Europe, revisionism of holocaust is most visible in member states from middle and eastern Europe. The phenomenon is very strong in these states, because they could not cope with the memory of holocaust in postwar years because of the communist regime. Denial of holocaust, or the trivialization of Jewish genocide and other ethnical groups is connected with rise of antisemitism, racism and xenophobia. During 90's of 20th century the trivialization and the denial of holocaust was domain of radical right-wing parties, nowadays these phenomena moved to the mainstream political scene. In the thesis, I write about the era from the end of Second World War to the year 2018. The first chapter defines terms: historical revisionism, trivialization of holocaust, holocaust, shoa and porajmos. In the second chapter, I situate the topic to the context, and I explain the thematic and historical events. The third part describes the 90's of 20th century in the Czech Republic until 2018.
