Factors of fear. Does fear in the Reality TV genre function as an instrument of self-reflection as well as manipulation?

This thesis focuses on matters of Reality TV that share a main element - fear. The theoretical part of the thesis first introduces the genre itself, its history and classification. Secondly, the team fear is defined and analysed as a phenomenon through literature overview of the term in sociology, anthropology, philosophy and psychology. The thesis also outlines how fear was depicted in arts throughout history. The practical part of the thesis starts with a description of the methodology of the research and its design. Afterwards there are introduced Reality TV shows about fear which are subjects of the thesis, followed by analysis of their form and style. The final part of the practical part of the thesis consists of a research report revealing results acquired by qualitative survey on the basis of a grounded theory method. .
The Specific Aspects Of a TV Production In an International Hub

This thesis focuses on production specifics of TV format hubs. The term hub is being identified and put in the context. In further sections there are examples of Czech TV formats that were produced in the international production hubs. The thesis looks at different production approaches within the hub productions and explores the advantages and disadvantages of such production environment. A reflection at the end examines if there is a possibility of building a production hub in the Czech Republic.
The Problem of Fake News in Contemporary Media

This work focuses on the issue of fake news and related disinformation in contemporary, especially electronic media. The aim of the thesis is to clarify the definition of fake news and their function in the context of media manipulation and to give a comprehensive picture of this issue. Fake news are also related with hoaxes, rumors, urban legends, conspiracy theories and more. This work also maps the incidence of fake news especially in the Czech environment, estimates the possible reach of false news to the audience and describes their characteristics. These characteristics include captions in the form of a clickbait, highlighting emotions, manipulation with lexical means and invective, misleading or completely not specified sources (and seeming authority) and the construction of reality by image materials. Another aim of this work is to delineate the problems that fake news affect. It includes violations of journalistic ethics, growing distrust in traditional media, possible influence on political preferences, violation of legislation or personalization of the content. Subtitling and Dubbing on the Czech Television Screen

The present master's thesis named Subtitling and Dubbing on the Czech Television Screen deals with the attitudes and preferences of the Czech television audience from the point of view of audiovisual translation (dubbing and subtitling) and aims to identify the reasons for these preferences. The thesis also focuses on the impact of sociodemographic features (age, level of education, foreign language skills) on these preferences. The objective is to cover relevant matters of both audiovisual translation theory as well as practice abroad and in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part provides a systematic summary of studies and other relevant literature in the field of audiovisual translation. Firstly, the two main methods of audiovisual translation are introduced, including a comparison of their advantages and disadvantages for the viewer. This is followed by a description of the historical development of audiovisual translation in a global context and the current changes in the given field. Also other relevant audience studies are presented. Bachelor thesis follows expansion of gastornomy and culinary trend in modern society and its way of using by mass media. This work does not look for answers to why media use new trends in proces of creation of new media content, nevertheless this work tries to create a picture of how media use these trends and in which way. Following work focused on the presentation of gastronomy in czech media. Published research provides comparation of representation of gastronomy in several TV shows by using content analysis. This research discovers actual share of act of cooking and other examples of gastronomy. One of the goals of this work is to discover how media use gastronomy topic and also for which purpose we, as a spectators, consume their content. Saturday Night Live Behind the Curtain

The aim of the Bachelor thesis "Behind the Curtain of Saturday Night Live" is to map general principles that have created an American sketch show Saturday Night Live. The main emphasis is put on creation, structure and protagonists of this television show. Last but not least, the author deals with the big socio-political themes incorporated in the show by its creators. The author proposes three main research questions. Question no. 1: What is the casting procedure for Saturday Night Live? Question no. 2: What is the structure of Saturday Night Live's creative week? Question no. 3: How successful were the individual SNL teams? The author is using qualitative content analysis method. The theoretical part focuses on television entertainment, the role of television in the society and role of television in the USA. The practical part focuses on the creation of Saturday Night Live, the casting process and the overall structure of the show. Additionally, the thesis takes a look on the individual teams, star guests and it also examines influences of socio-political themes on this TV show.
Changes in conception of film fairy tales

The current generation of children consume more medial contents through television and movies than ever before. Many classical literature works are adapted in this way, although they have to correspond with preferences of audience and with socio-cultural values which shows the different view at the same topic subsequently mediated to the youngest audience. This thesis acquaints with history of fairy-tales genre and its various forms. In view of target audience of this production, thesis concentrates with the effect of content and media devices on children audience in theoretical part. Simultaneously the thesis efforts to popularity of cinematized fairy-tales in Czech environment. Practical part analyzes two film adaptations of the same fairy-tale's theme and efforts to point out to the differences in creative conception and values, which these movies represent. The goal of this thesis is to prove the changing views on the classical themes in the course of time the influence of the contemporary ideas and imaginations of the society on the adaptation for children.
The development of the form of sport news from the start of broadcasting Czechslovak television to the present

The author of diploma theses The development of the form of sports news from the beginning of the broadcasting of Czechoslovak Television to the present describes changes in sports news in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic from 1953 to 2016 focusing on its form. The aim of this work is to write down how the form of popular news which has a longer history than common news has developed based on archive shots of Czechoslovak and Czech Television. The thesis deals with sports news in Czech countries since its inception. Then, it explains the creation of the sports department in Czechoslovak television and describes changes that have taken place during its whole life, especially changes associated with the emergence of the independent Czech Republic and creation of the sports channel ČT Sport. Separately, the author also focuses on the main sports session Branky, body, vteřiny. In the second half of the thesis, the author defines several categories that cover sports news from different points of views. These categories are divided according to the historical milestones which are important for particular category. Talk show as a TV genre entertaining both the USA and the Czech Republic

The topic of this Bachelor's thesis, Talk show as a TV genre entertaining the USA and the Czech Republic, is talk show as a genre connected with the origin and development of american TV entertainment, that, after the Velvet Revolution, got into our own televisions, as well. The thesis is divided into two sections - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical section, the thesis deals with the definiton and interpretation of the talk show concept, then it deals with talk show as both a TV genre and a format, circumscribes the key identification characteristics of this genre and categorises it to three main subgenres - late-night talk show, daytime talk show and informational talk show. Other fields of interest of this thesis are also genres that preceded the talk show genre or its elements. Theoretical section is then concluded by the history of talk show in the United States, the country of origin of this genre, along with its footprint in the Czech media landscape. Practical section then aims for recognition of any correspondences and differences in schemes of late-night talk show between the Czech Republic and the USA, using comparative analysis. Representing the Czech talk show in the analysis is Show Jana Krause, representing the American talk show is then The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Content analysis of selected on-line television channels and their uses of entertaining content.

This master thesis deals with the internet - television media relations, more specifically how selected tv publishers use internet channels to communicate with users. It is based on several previous analysis, which argued that publishers apply old television logic on the internet as well, and therefore they do not use full potential of the new medium. Goal of this thesis was to test this argument, as well as to discover how Czech and foreign publishers use internet websites and social media, and how they approach internet audiences. In order to do so, content analysis was executed, analyzing publisher websites and social media of 20 selected television shows. Based on this analysis user approach of each show and publisher was categorized employing typology of Eugenie Siapera. Due to significant communication differences among shows this thesis also attempted to identify major factors, which shaped the communication.
