Practical-Theological Aspects of Fleeing as a Result of Religious Persecution of Christians from Iraq and Egypt
Miláčková, Věra ; Veverková, Kamila (advisor) ; Kropáček, Luboš (referee) ; Šafin, Ján (referee)
This dissertation focusses on fleeing from religious persecution and aims to answer three research questions: 1) For Christians from Egypt and Iraq, what external aspects or factors related to persecution play a role in their decision to flee their home country? 2) How do these religiously persecuted Christians from Egypt and Iraq internally process and evaluate their experience in relation to their flight from their home country? 3) What are the practical theological implications of the various stages of fleeing? It is a multidisciplinary study with original qualitative field research with an emphasis on connecting theoretical and practical parts. In the study I focus on BCBs = Believers of Christian Background and BMBs = Believers of Muslim Background. In the first six chapters I lay theoretical foundations of what persecution means, including the definition, the dynamics, analysis of persecution in the Bible, and theological approaches to fleeing. I also provide a historical-demographic overview of Christians in Iraq and Egypt including an analysis of their persecution. The description of the research design is followed by a description of the five major themes that came out of the field research (coming out, fear for life, fleeing, price paid, and God as goal and means). These themes were then...
Suicide Attacks in the Middle East
Krejčová, Lenka ; Kropáček, Luboš (advisor) ; Motl, Jiří (referee)
This thesis examines the problem of suicide attacks in the Middle East. It points to a lack of unity in definition and the difficulty of conceptualizing terrorism, while at the same time presenting a potential typology with emphasis placed on so-called religious terrorism and the historical phases of subversive terrorism, including the development of suicide terrorism on the territory of the Middle East. Specific attention is paid to the suicide attacks carried out during the civil war in Lebanon and the Amal and Hizballáh movements. Furthermore, the thesis addresses the relationship between Islam and terrorism; emphasis is put on the diversity of the world of Islam in examples of trends and movements in contemporary Islam, whereas extra attention is paid to clarifying the terms "fundamentalism" and "Islamism". Light is shed on the problems surrounding authority in Islam, and an attempt is made to explain the role of the clergy. Martyrdom is taken into consideration - the various perceptions of suicide and martyr acts are laid out. The psychological dimensions of terrorism as they pertain to individual culprits of terrorist acts are also given due consideration. Moreover, this work aims to contradict the most common myths associated with the suicide attackers. Keywords Terrorism, suicide...
The elements of Mudejar art
Guia, Eva ; Veselý, Rudolf (advisor) ; Kropáček, Luboš (referee)
The Mudejar Art means the art of mudejars ( muslims who lived under the dominion of Christians), of moriscos (muslims which were forced to accept the baptism, but which staied secretly practising lslam) and ofthe other ethnic or religious groups which used their technics. Because it is realized outside of the lands of lslam, it is usually associated to the elements of the other religions and traditions and to their buildings. The Mudejar Art is limited to the Pyrenean Peninsula (Spain, Portugal) and their former colonies. The Spanish and French historians of art tended frequently to doubt about the Mudejar Art and his existence like independent style, the same name of this style was disputed and the other better was been looking for unsuccessefully. Maybe it was also because of the fragmentation total of the Mudejar Art, which in every area (Castile and León, Aragon, Toledo, Andalusia, the eastern zone etc.) has his specific character. Four materials have been considereted like typically mudejars (brick, wood, gypsum, ceramics). This definition, which was been accepted in the III. lnternational Symposy of Mudejarismo in Teruel, was in the first two cases doubted by Phi1ippe Araguas and Nuere Matauco, like his al1eged economicity. The decoration come from Antiquity, from the traditions ofVizigots and Europe...

Machálková, Andrea ; Obuchová, Ľubica (advisor) ; Kropáček, Luboš (referee)
The diploma thesis "Christian-Buddhist Polemic in Japan in the 17th century" deals mainly with the life and work of Fabian Fucan, one of the most noticeable figures of the early Japanese Christianity. The first part of the thesis is focused on the coming of Christianity to Japan, the mission and the subsequent persecution of Christians which later resulted in the final prohibition of Christianity in the country. The main part of the thesis puts brain to the analysis of two key works of Fabian Fucan - Christian apologetics called Myōtei Mondō and then anti-Christian treatise Ha Daiusu that Fucan wrote after leaving the Society of Jesus and becoming attached back to Buddhism. The final chapter pays attention to the phenomenon of "kakure kirishitan" ("hidden Christians"), i.e. groups of Christians who are the descendants of Christians secretly practicing during the Sakoku (literally, "closed country") period.

Ambrosio, Šárka ; Kropáček, Luboš (advisor) ; Vojtíšek, Zdeněk (referee)
Morální principy v současném šíitském islámu, zvl. Íránu a Iráku Moral Princips In contemporey Shi'a islam (esp. In Iran and Iraq) Šárka Ambrosio In this body of work we look at the moral principles of the Shiite Muslims faith and their reasons for fundamentalism in the second half of the 20th century. The morality of the Shiite faith is a delicate balanced between religion and politics. If the political and the religious institutions do not work in harmony, the typical results are society and economical disruption. Even in a secular state, non-believing citizens who have a basic moral value to live a peaceful co- existences can be disarrayed by conflicts within government and church. What then comes into question is the role the state takes in compliance with certain laws that effect the populous. The answer often defaults to the moral beliefs people have about their understanding of their Creator. There is the claim that morality has no authority. Thus, peoples faith in God and the knowledge of His law ensures a harmony in a social structure. It is no co-incidence that a growing Western pressure in the second half of the 20th century has equated to a growth in Eastern Islam fundamentalist. There is a cause and effect. The solution is not simple but peace can only be founded if the Eastern...
