Application of Paired comparison method in election research
Lišková, Kristýna ; Jeřábek, Hynek (advisor) ; Krejčí, Jindřich (referee)
Author of these thesis researches the ability Paired comparison method to predict the results in the presidential elections during January 2018 ( the first and the second round). The pair comparison method is based on the assessment of individual candidates in combinations (pairs) where two candidates stand against each other and there is a judge who compares them in all combinations. The author carried out an investigation using three standardized questionnaires. She has applied the method in the first questionnaire and surveyed the actual choice of the respondents in the other two questionnaires. There were 392 respondents who participated in the complete questionnaire surfy and their answers were analyzed and compared with their results of Paired comparison method. The thesis also shows the accuracy of the method and the suitability of the application, as well as the ability to predict the results of undecided voters. The Paired comparison method in prediction of the results of the first round, but was able to estimate the results of the second round. The author concludes that Paired comparison method should be used in several round types of elections or those where two candidates stand against each other. There are also examined the disadvantages and risks of the method.

Fedorková, Marta ; Soukup, Petr (advisor) ; Krejčí, Jindřich (referee)
This paper is a final report from a web-based Alumni survey at the Institute of Social Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University. It examines Alumni evaluation of their study and work experiences. Czech and international studies of similar foci served as the methodological basis for the research. First part of the paper presents an overview of the field of Alumni surveys in Czech Republic, followed by exposition of related methodology. Core of the study focuses on the analysis of results obtained in the thematic areas of Alumni work experience, evaluation of studies at ISS, their educational needs and interest in renewing relations with their school. The main outcome is represented by suggestions for curricular changes and creation of Alumni association. Election Polls in Czech Republic: Methodological Optimalizations
Prokop, Daniel ; Krejčí, Jindřich (advisor) ; Soukup, Petr (referee)
Bibliographic record PROKOP, Daniel. (2012). Election polls in the Czech Republic: Methodological Optimization. Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Social Sciences, Institut of Sociological Studies. Thesis academic consultant: Mgr. Jindřich Krejčí, Ph.D. Abstract The thesis focuses on the election-polls and prediction of election results in the Czech Republic. Using data of research company MEDIAN s.r.o. from face-to-face (CAPI) and telephone interviewing (CATI) in election year 2010 it examines possibilities of methodological optimizations which could lead to reducing systematic bias and discrepancies of pre-election polls the election results. In particular, it discusses these methodological solutions: mix-mode data collection (combination of CATI and CAPI), data weighting focused on specific factors correlated with voting behavior, including preferences of undecided voters, prediction of the respondents' participation in elections, election-polls results time-series smoothing. Based on these analyses the thesis tries to articulate general findings which could be fruitful in discussion about Czech election-polls and their methodology in general. In the thesis, basic and advanced statistic methods (CART, exponential smoothing, etc.) are being used to achieve given research goals. Keywords: election...
The impact of preelection surveys on the result of parliamentary election: Czech 2010 case
Štrojsa, Miloš ; Soukup, Petr (advisor) ; Krejčí, Jindřich (referee)
The bachelor's thesis called "Role and influence of pre-election polls on the results of Czech legislative election 2010" focuses on the role of the pre-election polls in the period of time before the Czech legislative election in 2010. The results of the election were described as surprising or breakthrough and the pre-election polls were criticised for inaccuracy. In connection with their impact on the election several complaints on incorrect influence of the polls emerged. The first chapter presents types of pre-election polls in the Czech Republic and the second chapter focuses on confrontation of the pre-election polls with the election results - all from a theoretical point of view. The next part of the thesis concentrates on actual 2010 pre-election polls and includes a comparison of the pre-election polls with the election results as well as a description of research practices of public opinion agencies. The last chapter elucidates the reasons of the pre-election polls inaccuracy and analyzes possible influence of pre-election surveys on the election results. The outcome of the thesis is an analysis of 2010 pre-election polls in the Czech Republic and a description of various factors that caused differences between the pre-election poll results and the actual election results.
Social desirability in social survey responses
Chylíková, Johana ; Krejčí, Jindřich (advisor) ; Remr, Jiří (referee)
The thesis presents available theoretical basis for examination of sensitive issues in sociology and draws attention to measurement errors in sociological surveys. Further the analysis of discrepancy in respondents' reports of number of lifetime sexual partner is conducted. For the purpose of the analysis the data from Survey of sexual behavior, accomplished by prof. Petr Weiss, PhD. and docent Jaroslav Zvěřina CSc. in 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008, is employed. The text summarizes available explanations of discrepancy, which are further used for clarification of an incongruity in the data from Czech republic. First an outline of the means of number of lifetime sexual partners for men and women is presented and a reduction of the dataset by extreme values is implemented. The analysis deals with effects of commercial sex on the discrepancy, detects whether men and women respond differently on other sensitive attributes and reveals whether answer strategies are sex-linked. The dataset of female respondents was used for testing the social desirability hypothesis. Finally the SAQ mode data from Survey of sexual behavior are compared with the outputs of the face-to-face interview mode survey.
Czech Social Science Data Archive
Krejčí, Jindřich
The Czech Social Science Data Archive (CSDA) is a national social science data centre in the Czech Republic which acquires, processes and archives datasets from Czech and international social research and makes these data publicly available for research and training purposes. CSDA also participates in networks of transnational data access, facilitates Czech participation in international comparative surveys, and promotes secondary data analysis in social science research. CSDA is the Czech node within the pan-European distributed research infrastructure ‘Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives’ (CESSDA) and is also the CESSDA Service Provider in the Czech Republic.
