Paradoxes of support help and care

The opener of this thesis is a pilot long-term study of a family with a handicapped member. The author has followed this family for more than six years. Following chapters of the thesis include descriptions of different experiences of members of this family. In order to understand specific needs of the family the thesis defines basic concepts such as care, help and support. Confusion of these notions causes dissipation of borders between the individual needs of different family members. Next chapter deals with the use of power in different supporting professions, concluding that its application is desirable under certain circumstances. It demonstrates that the possession of power doesn't necessary lead to manipulation of individuals. The last chapter covers the need of humane approach in supportive professions as has been proven in literature. This quality is highly beneficial to the client.
How the Covid-19 pandemic affected the living situation of seniors in a retirement home

In the diploma thesis named " How the Covid-19 pandemic affected the living situation of seniors in a retirement home", first I focus on theoretical terms such as senior, ageing, old age, retirement home, the Covid-19 pandemic, but I also want to point to the topic of the vulnerability of the elderly in a retirement home and the mental health of a person in the old age with regard to the chosen topic of this diploma thesis. Part of my thesis is also qualitative research, which is an inquiry with the help of semi-structured interviews with seniors in a retirement home. With respondents, I focus on four main topics that outline the overall process of their pandemic experience. At the end of this thesis I analyzes the perception of the residence of the clients in a retirement home in Ústí nad Labem during the pandemic from their point of view and this way I bring an insight of experiencing a 2.5-year pandemic in a retirement home thanks to the experiences of individual respondents.
Social services for clients with mental disabilities

This thesis deals the importance of social services for people with mental disabilities. The aim was to introduce the wider public to social services and their necessity for people with mental disabilities. The research was based on interviews with five respondents, from which case studies were developed and the results show that social services are an important tool for people with mental disabilities and their parents or carers to integrate into mainstream society and thus be able to live a full life to the maximum extent possible given the degree of disability. It concludes with concrete examples of the use of social services to help and mitigate the effects of living with an mental disability.
