The use of acupuncture in addiction treatment at the Department of Addictology 1.LF and VFN: the patients' point of view

Backround: Acupuncture is classified as complementary and alternative medicine. It is a medical discipline that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, including addictive diseases. In foreign clinics, especially in the USA, acupuncture is part of the treatment. According to foreign studies, acupuncture can help reduce cravings, improve coping with unpleasant withdrawal symptoms, reduce stress and anxiety, or improve sleep. Aim: The aim of the diploma thesis is to describe the subjective experiences of acupuncture sessions and their subjective significance in the recovery process. The research questions are focused on the experiences of acupuncture, how the respondents feel the influence of acupuncture on themselves and how this method can be used according to their experience in the treatment of addiction. Methods: A qualitative research method, a semi-structured interview, was chosen for data collection. The research group consists of 5 respondents. An interpretative phenomenological analysis was used to analyze the obtained data, which focuses on understanding the lived experience of a person and helps to examine more closely what meaning a certain person attributes to his experience. Regulation of new psychoactive substances

Backround: New psychoactive substances are substances that are not controlled by existing legislation and are created to replace already banned addictive substances, from which they are often derived. New substances are created by changing chemical structure of already banned addictive substances, then they are no longer substances on the lists of controlled substances and thus they are not subject to legislative measures. After the change of the structure, their exact mechanism of action and effects on the organism is not known. This can pose a risk to users and therefore to society. Aim: The aim of this work is to describe the current legislative approaches to new psychoactive substances in the European Union and in the Czech Republic and to suggest possible legislative solutions for the future and appropriate addictological interventions for new psychoactive substances. Methods: To create this thesis, The analysis of available information on legislative approaches and expert articles was used to create the work. Subsequently, according to the information obtained, the future possible legislative solution of the NSS was proposed. New synthetic drugs and the mechanisms underlying their effects

New synthetic drugs are a large group of addictive substances currently synthesized for the purpose of circumventing legislation. Most often, they are created by a relatively slight change of the structure of previously banned substances. Any drugs and their long-term use have a detrimental effect on the life of the individual and society as a whole. Therefore, understanding the mechanism of their action is important for the treatment of complications caused by them and may also serve to develop drugs for treatment of certain diseases. This bachelor thesis deals with the current knowledge about the mechanism of action of new synthetic drugs - synthetic cathinones, especially mephedrone, methylone and MDPV.
