Comparison of the evolution of democracy in de facto states

The thesis focuses on the evolution of democracy in de facto states. The de facto state is described as an entity that defines itself as an independent state. However, the international community does not recognize it. The democratization of de facto states tends to be problematic. Most de facto states have a patron state that provides protection and economic support. At the same time, it is perceived as a factor that hinders the democratisation process of its clients. Only a limited amount of academic works has addressed the evolution of democracy in de facto states and the influence of patron states on this evolution. The aim of this thesis is to determine the extent to which the democratization process in a group of de facto states has been effective, to find positive and negative indicators of democracy and to reveal the factors behind them. To find out whether the evolution of democracy in the patron states influences the evolution of democracy in the de facto states. Freedom House data is used for the research, subjected to content analysis, and discussed with the available literature. The complete set of de facto states shows stability in the level of democracy achieved. The evolution in both directions is very slow. Carpool as an alternative to the traditional ways of commuting examined by university students from Písek region commuting to Prague

The bachelor thesis targets on the topic of carpooling. Under the term of a carpool-journey is understood an alternative to traditional means of transport. This topic has been mentioned in Czechia only marginally and has not been further researched. The thesis aims to get a closer look on carpooling and to cover it as a self-standing complex topic. Main aim is to define the term of carpooling, determine its types and in author's own questionnaire to identify basic principles which are specific for student's carpooling between Prague and the town of Písek. Outcomes of the questionnaire are discussed with literature. It is possible to divide carpooling into internal and external. Furthermore, it can be divided into formal and informal carpooling. The determining factor for a working carpool journey is motivation of participants which forms the carpool-journey's characteristics. Among others it is mainly saving money, saving time and comfort. Main barrier for carpooling is sharing a car with an unknown person. The thesis is an entrance gate into the topic of carpooling and there are a lot of further research possibilities.
