Courier Service in Dvůr Králové n. L. in the Early Modern Period

This diploma thesis focuses on the issue of oral and written communication through the groups of couriers, who mediated between smaller royal dowry town Dvůr Králové nad Labem and its own villages as well as another distant locations situated in another dominion. Diploma thesis applies to region called Podkrkonoší in the advanced Early Modern Period, describes and analyses some of the preserved archival primary sources of knowledge dedicated to the courier services in Dvůr Králové nad Labem. It mentions the enviroment in which the gateke- epers and other couriers fulfilled their services. This thesis attempts to define the relationship between the distance and courier's income in Dvůr Králové nad Labem's domain and outside of it. In the context of diverse contents of oral and written messages the thesis mentions sever- al other topics, for example the actual filling work of corvée (or statute labour), showing by gatekeepers the way to hussar-soldier at surveying, transport of beggars and vagabonds and even the beginning of postal services in this area. Working method is based on detailed archival probe into rarely preserved municipal bookkeeping, especially into records of gate- keeper's courier services and records of other settled couriers both from the year 1740 and 1768. The Žďárští of Žďár. The history of aristocrats' family in Kladno region

The subject of this thesis is family history of Central Bohemian, Kladno or catholic line of the family of Žďárší of Ždár. The family belonged to lower nobility and was using title of knights. Knights Žďárský of Ždar came from western part of Bohemia from Doupov region (North East of well know town of Karlovy Vary). Their main residence was gothic fortress and later renaissance chateau in Žďár close to small town Doupov. The family belonged into great Bohemian house of Janovic part of which was also important and powerful lords of Kolovrat, lords of Janovice, lords of Vimperk and knights families of Zručský of Chřenovice and Čejka of Olbramovice and Dvořecký of Olbramovice. First written resources about Žďárský appeared already in 1295, when he is mentioned in one of the papers as a witness "Stanizlaus de Zar". It is certain, that family is even older. From 1300 - 1500 the family grew significantly, but continue to reside in the area of Doupov where they resided in only few fortresses. During 15th century there were formed four family lines. One of them died out already in 16th century, two other ones died out in 17th century and the last one continues until today in Germany. Under the name of Sahrer von Sahr von Shönberg. Jan Sembera Cernohorsky of Boskovice and the heritage of the House of Liechtenstein

This diploma thesis is dedicated to Jan Sembera Cernohorsky of Boskovice, Moravian aristocrat from the second half of 16th century, the last descendant of an important family of Boskovice. It describes his life story from the childhood to the death which it puts into the broader context and creates a comprehensive view of the higher nobles of his time. Particular attention is paid to the family of Boskovice, especially its last generation, which represent aside from Jan Sembera primarily his brother Albrecht Cernohorsky of Boskovice and Semera's friend and relative Jan of Boskovice and Trebova. The specific role in Jan Sembera's biography necessary plays the transfer of the legacy of the house of Boskovice to the Liechtenstein's family. This was accomplished through two marriages between Karl and Maxmilian of Liechtenstein and Sembera's daughters Anna Marie and Katerina. The importance of those alliances is reflected in the perspective of both financial as well as cultural capital inherited by the House of Liechtenstein and the way how did they use and treat it.

Collegiate Chapter of Stará Boleslav: economic conditions in the early modern period

In my diploma thesis is analyzed economic security of the collegiate chapter house in Stará Boleslav (near Prague). After an outline of the issue in the Middle Ages, the study concentrates on an evaluation of the profitability and economic impact of the estates of the Stará Boleslav chapter in the early modern period; also other possibilities of economic security are analysed here (including financial effect resulting from the Baroque pilgrimage). In some respects, the comparison is made here between Stará Boleslav collegiate chapter and some similar Czech church institutions. The topic is examined primarily on the basis of unpublished sources (land registers, population censuses etc.; list of the most important of them is included in appendix), taking into account also printed sources and secondary literature.

I examine changes occurring in the last two decades in academic knowledge-making, and specifically in the natural sciences. Concretely, I focus on research assessment as an increasingly dominant practice of quality control. Previous analyses of the research assessment system in the Czech Republic argue that the system has been designed to suit primarily the practices of the natural sciences (Linkova and Stockelova 2012; Stockelova 2012). Studies and Correspondence of the priests-to-be of the Bohemian Brethren in 1610-1618 Markéta Růčková Two wooden boxes were found during the reconstruction of the former Minorite monastery Na Karmeli at Mladá Boleslav in 2006. The boxes concealed the so-called Archives of Matouš Konečný. The Archives contained documents that originated in the office of, or were addressed to, one of the four bishops of the Bohemian Brethren, Matouš Konečný (1569-1622), whose seat was at Mladá Boleslav. A significant part of the discovery consists of correspondence addressed to Bishop Konečný. A substantial part of the correspondence are documents related to the dispatch of young aspiring Brethren priests for study at educational institutions abroad. Along with letters of the students themselves, sent from Bremen and Beuthen an der Oder (Bytom Odrzański in Poland), where the young men attended academic grammar schools (gymnasia illustria), the boxes contain the students' pledges and accounts of their expenditures. The students' reports are supplemented with the correspondence of their teachers.
