Portuguese Identity and Azorianity in João de Melo's oeuvre

The diploma thesis examines the oeuvre of João de Melo in view of the fundamental topics of his poetics, namely the tragic sense of life, ancient space-time, ontological metamorphosis of humans and animals, escapes, peculiar religiosity, isolation and imagination, shared marginalization and language distance. The Azoriatity is estimated on the basis of the chosen topics and on comparison with Portuguese identity, and the correlation between center and peripheral areas is analyzed. Abstrakt Diplomová práce se zabývá studiem nosných rysů v díle Joãa de Mela, zejména tragickým pocitem života, odvěkým časoprostorem, ontologickými metamorfózami zvířat a lidí, útěky, specifickou religiozitou, izolací a imaginací, sdílenou marginalizací a jazykovou vzdáleností. Následně jsou tyto rysy klasifikovány z hlediska jejich azořanství, které je nahlídnuto také z hlediska portugalské identity a ve vztahu centra a periferie. The Representation of Mozambican Woman in Paulina Chiziane's Niketche

This study aims at an analysis of the novel Niketche: Uma história de Poligamia, by Paulina Chiziane, with respect to the position of Mozambican women. It captures the life of the protagonist Rami, who is confronted with several problems in today‛s Mozambique. Part of this bachelor‛s thesis work investigates the historical, cultural and social aspects of the Mozambican reality, and highlight their specificities and contrasts. Furthermore, this study examines three major topics: pluralism of Mozambican traditions, clash of Mozambican and Western culture and identity building process. Finally, it is considering the role of literature in the African societies. Key-words: Mozambique, position of woman, culture, identity, literature
