Catcalling through Women's Eyes: A Case Study
Kolářová, Karolína ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Dvořáčková, Jana (referee)
The aim of my master thesis Catcalling through women's eyes: a case study is to present the issue of catcalling from the perspective of women as frequent victims of this type of harassment. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. In the theoretical part I will discuss what catcalling is, what it can look like and where we can encounter it. I will also look at the power aspects of this type of harassment and what effects it can have on women's mental health. In the empirical part I will then discuss my research. This is qualitative research where I have chosen semi-structured interviews as my method and my communication partners are women who have some experience with catcalling. Therefore, I use the interviews to find out how the women in question define catcalling, what their personal or mediated experience of it is, and what strategies or responses they choose when they have to cope with this type of behaviour. I am also interested in what the effects of catcalling on mental health may be and whether the women in question feel affected by their experience of catcalling in other areas of their lives. Key words: catcalling, sexual harrasment street harassment, women, gender, feminism

The role of caspase-3 in apoptosis
Kolářová, Karolína ; Tlapáková, Tereza (advisor) ; Anděra, Ladislav (referee)
Caspases provide anti-inflammatory, apoptotic and developmental processes in organisms. They are enzymes with a wide range of activities in all cells, and various pathogeneses can occur if their proper function is disturbed. Since the 1990s, caspases have been a topic of interest for scientists, as their direct link to the triggering of apoptotic processes is a promising possibility for the therapy of diseases related to apoptosis, such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, but also cardiac ischemia and diabetes. The cascade of apoptotic processes is controlled by the aforementioned caspases, which are located in the caspase cascade. When the cascade is triggered in a cell, it is due to the presence of a "danger" signal, which can be very different. The most well-known triggers of the apoptotic cascade include activated Fas receptor and FasL ligand, cytochrome c present in the cytoplasm, an imbalance of IAPs in the cell, damaged DNA, and many others. Upon receipt of a signal, initiator caspase-2, caspase-8, and caspase-9 are activated, which in turn activate effector caspases-3, caspase-6, and caspase- 7, cleaving many substrates to promote apoptosis. Thus, caspase-3 is the effector enzyme responsible for the actual execution of apoptosis. However, caspase-3 properties are not only apoptotic, it...
Specific of patent law in pharmaceutical industry
Kolářová, Karolína ; Pítra, Vladimír (advisor) ; Růžička, Michal (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the selected institutes and specifics of patent law in pharmaceutical industry. The aim is to analyze and critically evaluate these institutes and specifics. Although the topic requires a certain overlap into different scientific fields, the thesis emphasizes on the legal aspects of these institutes. The thesis is based on the Czech legislation; however, many chapters require an insight into the European or/and international legal context. Furthermore, the case law of a foreign court and the European Patent Office is also presented. To begin with, the thesis deals with definitions of the key terms of a patent law and presents a brief overview of the legislation on the national level as well as internationally. In the next chapter the area of pharmaceutical industry is introduced, more specifically its historical background and a specific terminology used in such area. The thesis contains a chapter dealing with the area of biotechnology as well. In the crucial part of this thesis, firstly general requirements for patentability of inventions are defined and the question of patentability of biotechnological inventions is evaluated. The attitude towards patentability of genetic modifications and cloning is evaluated more closely. Furthermore the requirements of the gene's...

Two kinds of representations, ideological and functional, are used in this study. The sources of information are the stenographical records of the single parliamentary sessions. The research itself consists of the analysis of the speeches of the female politicians in plenum by application of particular elements of the concept of representation. The two important points in the course of the female deputies activities are the representation of the woman question in the point of view of the functional representation and the representation of the ideology from the standpoint of ideological representation. Kolářová, Karolina ; Gelnarová, Jitka (advisor) ; Říchová, Blanka (referee)
This thesis deals with changes in the presidential office in Ireland during the presidency of Mary Robinson between 1990-1997. The presidential office holds very few powers and it has been always perceived more as ceremonial and symbolic function. Robinson had been very active during her reign since the beginning, thus breaking the precedence given by former presidents. The goal of this thesis is to define both, particular tools and mechanisms which Robinson had used to transform the nature of the office. Moreover, the thesis aims to examine whether Robinson stayed within the constitutional boundaries. My hypothesis states, that main tools which Robinson used to transform the presidency, are the different forms of activism. The first part the research focuses on the analysis of the constitutional development of presidential office as well as the powers of president listed in the constitution. Further, in the thesis, I focused on Robinson's activity not only during her presidency but also on the prior period as the presidential campaign or Robinson's professional career. This is important to define particular tools and mechanisms which Robinson used to change the presidency. The main findings of my thesis reveal the tools which Robinson used to transform the office - activism and symbolism. Both of...
