Natural Substances in Project Based Learning
Lechová, Petra ; Ganajová, Mária (advisor) ; Klečková, Marta (referee) ; Teplá, Milada (referee)
Subject: Natural Substances in Project Based Learning The given dissertation deals with problems in project education in chemistry. It consists of three main parts - theoretical, practical, and research. The theoretical part generalizes knowledge which characterizes project education based on history, describes ideas about project education from various authors, basic terms, phases, positive and uncertain aspects, and the status of the teacher, student, etc. The practical part describes the means we created in carrying out our dissertation. The Electronic Study Guide Digital Library and didactic manual Natural Substances in Project Education will serve as study guides for chemistry teachers and students interested in education and project application in the field of Natural substances. The research part generalizes the characteristics and results of the pedagogical experiment focusing on verification of the effectiveness of project education in the area of Bio substances in living organisms. The determined hypotheses were verified based on statistical methods. The results of the research proved the main hypothesis: project education increased the effectivity of chemistry education in terms of the students attitude to natural sciences, increased the length of time students remember subject matter,...
Demonstrations as an illustrative tool in chemistry education
Hájková, Zdeňka ; Šmejkal, Petr (advisor) ; Klečková, Marta (referee) ; Nižňanský, Daniel (referee)
Demonstrations are considered an important illustrative tool in chemistry education. Quite often teachers use demonstrations of experiments and multimedia demonstrations. Besides, "non-experimental" demonstrations might also be useful, such as material models and demonstrations based on macroscopic analogy that can be usually carried out only with household items and materials. This dissertation is especially aimed at selecting appropriate demonstrations, at their design, development and use of "non-experimental" demonstrations. Moreover, special attention was paid to the interdisciplinary demonstrations concerning the nanoworld, so called "nanodemonstrations". All "nanodemonstrations" presented are safe, cheap and rather timesaving. Furthermore, they can be carried out in a form of lecture and / or students' demonstration. Newly created as well as adopted (and modified) "nanodemonstrations" were collected into the Czech database of "nanodemonstrations". The database was additionally accompanied with following educational materials concerning "nano": two PowerPoint presentations, worksheets that supplement students' "nanodemonstrations" and worksheets with interdisciplinary tasks. This thesis also deals with the evaluation of "nanodemonstrations" and worksheets in secondary school classes. The...
Environmental Aspects of Chemistry Teaching and Learning at High School
Schmutzerová, Linda ; Bílek, Martin (advisor) ; Klečková, Marta (referee) ; Feszterová, Melánia (referee)
The abstract The main aim of the dissertation was to find out the level of knowledge and opinions of secondary technical and especially grammar school students in the field of Chemistry focusing on environmental problems of these days and their solutions. As a follow up of the research and the analysis of the current curriculum in Chemistry in grammar schools there are suggestions for some amendments in this subject. First of all, current trends of the environmental studies in different years of the educational system were monitored and the research results of preparation, realization and evaluation in secondary technical and grammar schools were analysed. In order to find out the level of environmental aspects in the content of the Chemistry textbooks currently in use at grammar schools, they were analysed by focusing on their eco-oriented content, the useable parts in each chapter were evaluated and some recommendations for their amendments were offered. Selected grammar school and secondary technical school students undertook the survey in order to find out their knowledge and opinions about the current environmental problems. The method of the research was conducted in the form of research questions and relevant hypothesis which was focused on finding out attitudes and opinions about the creation and...
Methods Activating Students in Education of Chemistry
Kesnerová Řádková, Olga ; Bílek, Martin (advisor) ; Klečková, Marta (referee) ; Dobrovská, Dana (referee)
Topic: Methods of Activating Students in Education of Chemistry Author: Olga Kesnerová Řádková Abstract This dissertation work aims at teaching methods in the subject of chemistry and it concentrates mainly on methods with quite a high proportion of activation of pupils. The benefits and disadvantages of activating teaching methods, possible criteria for their choice, conditions for their putting into practice and similar, are described. Later, the work focuses on four chosen activating methods, namely brainstorming methods, project method, didactic games and work with a fictional and another type of a text which is applied here into natural science teaching, namely into chemistry teaching. A story with a chemical experiment can serve as an example. The research part contains a case study of putting project teaching methods into practice which includes a record and analysis of the condition and of the problem connected with its implementation, as well as the initiation of the project with the help of brainstorming methods. Participation observing, questionnaires, mini polls and discussions were used in our case study. Altogether 184 second year students for the teaching profession of the Pedagogical Faculty of Hradec Králové University took part in the research. On the basis of the results of the research...

CHARLES UNIVERSITY IN PRAGUE Faculty of Science Department of Teaching& Didactics of Chemistry Ph.D. study program: Chemistry Education Education in Inorganic Chemistry in Context of Common Life Ph. D. thesis Mgr. Šárka Matoušková Abstract The objective of this Ph.D. thesis is to contribute to the effectiveness and quality of education of inorganic chemistry in the context of common life. The first chapter characterizes the current state of inorganic chemistry as a science and as a teaching subject. The requirements of the teachers teaching inorganic chemistry in secondary schools were determined by using the method of personal interview in the second chapter. After comparing the school systems in the third chapter and the analysis of selected textbooks used in the Czech Republic and in one of the countries of Germany, the criteria for creating teaching materials for inorganic chemistry were set. A textbook on the topic of the transition metals for secondary school pupils was created by means of a transformation of a scientific text. Finally, the textbook was evaluated by chemistry teachers at secondary schools in the form of a questionnaire survey and adjusted to the final form. Keywords: school system, secondary school, inorganic chemistry, chemistry education, textbook, transition metals, interview,...

í.Introduction The aim for my doctoral thesis makes the complete surway to the situation and state in chemistry education process in different school levóls and makes the research to modem activatin methods, forms and means of education in preparation and praktice of chemistry teachers. My work has been focused mainly on project methods and their effect to chemistry education. Next part has been focused on laboratory experimental activities and other activating methods and their use for fi.rrther education. Ťheséthesis have been completed by available supplements from years 2000 - 2008. It seems to be convenient for practicá use. There are implemented my proffesional activities - practical and educational teachers'preparation at Charles University - Faculty of Science and from my exDenence in secondary schools. In every chapter there are used ideas and thoughts from intemational conferences, discussion classes and from artickles in different magazines and volumes. 2. Nowadays suituatlon and projects in education After the conference in Lisabon in 2000 started in ouÍcountry orientatlon to educational systém, mainly to forming bo|t qualification. That mean', that in chemistry education we need logical system based on skills, communication, team co-operation. experimental topics, public discussion and...
