Analysis of the speech profile of David Rath presented by Czech audiovisual media
Švejkovský, Jakub ; Just, Petr (advisor) ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze the rhetorical profile of one of the most prominent Czech rhetors after the Velvet revolution, physician and politician David Rath. In the theoretical part, the author comprehensively processes the history of public speaking based on the ancient but still current rhetorical tradition of ancient Greece and Rome. Furthermore, the work describes all the specifics defining both the interpersonal communication itself, as well as its individual aspects - specifically, verbal, nonverbal and psychological components, along with persuasive and manipulative techniques. The practical part is co-created by two key aspects - the career and political profile of David Rath and the analysis of his speech. The theoretical basis in combination with the knowledge of the life story of the central speaker forms the basis and context for the analysis of Rath's rhetoric. On carefully selected speeches, the author then examines in detail how the observed rhetor can adapt to various situations across the communication spectrum. The researched findings can then be used for further analyses of a similar focus.
Media Image of Designer Vivienne Westwood: Activism versus Branding
Suntychová, Tereza ; Hejlová, Denisa (advisor) ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the critical mapping of British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood with a focus on the relationship between her activist actions and branding. The goal of this thesis is to analyse discourse practice and uncover the meaning behind creating Westwood's media image. Westwood is actively involved in political, social and environmental matters. She's known for her critical stance towards the establishment, consumer society as well as economic system. She stood at the beginning of punk and helped to define its visual identity. She belongs amongst known sustainable fashion advocates which reflects her famous quote 'buy less, choose well, make it last'. On the other hand, she built a global fashion brand with annual turnover of more than 40.7 million pounds in 2017 and she herself became the subject of criticism because of this contradiction towards her own actions. Some critics pointed out that she urges the public to consume less but owns a global network of stores under her name at the same time. From a methodological point of view the thesis is based on qualitative research, specifically on critical discourse analysis whose mechanisms help to uncover power relationships and put this issue into a broader context.

The work briefly summarizes the social construction of reality theory according to T. Berger and P. L. Luckmann, the media construct of reality and news value. It explains the concepts of slum, developing country, urbanisation, and the refugee crisis. It examines the texts by combining quantitative and qualitative content analysis. Quantitative content analysis is based on three research questions and six hypotheses. First of all there was described, that the nature of hyperreality is very different compared to realities of lower levels. Hyperreality is a semantic space which is filled with simulacra. Those simulacra are holding very strong meaning, which is technically one of the basic elements of their nature. At the other hand not every meaning did pass to the hyperreal stadium. It means that in the end hyperreality suffers the lack of meanings. Its spectre of meanings is simply very limited. Although simulacrum holds a very strong meaning, it can disappear. In this paper there were described two ways, how it can happen. Both ways are directly connected with interest of audience, which mean in this case the interest of public. Simulacra can simply disappear when the audience forget them because of change of the cultural rules. The other way is a kind of simulacra duel. Against older simulacrum is putted a new one. If audience because of any reason decide, that the new simulacrum fits better to their needs, that the old one, the old one disappears. It was described, that there is wide spectre of objects which are able to pass through simulation and become simulacrum. In the...
