An induction machine with solid rotor

This master’s thesis is focused on induction motor with solid rotor. The introduction is dedicated to the full analysis of the rotor. Then model of motor with solid rotor was designed in 2D and 3D. Simulations of these models were carried out using the finite elements method. Further in this thesis there are laboratory measurements` results due to the motor`s sample. Based on the results from simulations and measurements rotor modifications have been proposed, which led to improved machine parameters. 2D models have been developed by rotor modifications. These models went through finite elements method`s simulation. In the conclusion of the thesis there are all results from measurements and simulations compared.

Accelerating evolutionary algorithms by decision trees and their generalizations

Evolutionary algorithms are one of the most successful methods for solving non-traditional optimization problems. As they employ only function values of the objective function, evolutionary algorithms converge much more slowly than optimization methods for smooth functions. This property of evolutionary algorithms is particularly disadvantageous in the context of costly and time-consuming empirical way of obtaining values of the objective function. However, evolutionary algorithms can be substantially speeded up by employing a sufficiently accurate regression model of the empirical objective function. This thesis provides a survey of utilizability of regression trees and their ensembles as a surrogate model to accelerate convergence of evolutionary optimization.

Politics and society in Angola in the 1970s: MPLA' s struggle for the consolidation of power

Politics and Society in Angola in the 70's of the 20th century: MPLA's struggle for the consolidation of power is a rigorous and meticulous work on the internal dynamics existing in MPLA, first as a movement and then as a political party, through the greatest moments, which in its development occurred. The seventies of last century represent the biggest crisis in the history of the Angolan strongest political party ever. The work seeks to highlight the political consequences but also consequences in human lives that these crises have influenced. During the 70's of the 20th century four major events bring MPLA on the verge of liberation process. On the eastern front, at the beginning of the seventies, there was an uprising in the MPLA army against the central leadership. Later, Daniel Chipenda, a member of the MPLA Steering Committee, took the lead of the rebellion. In terms of leadership in MPLA, this was the first major collapse between the Steering Committee and the MPLA social and rural bases. Right after took place another revolt, which was called Active Revolt, in May 1974 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo where MPLA had its headquarters. It was carried out by mostly intellectual dissidents, but it brought structural catastrophic consequences for MPLA, when the 25th April 1974 in Portugal played a coup...

The task of shape extraction is very complex and hasn't yet been satisfactorily solved. Although there exist lots of algorithms for shape extraction, the mere knowledge of such techniques doesn't give us an answer what methods should be used and how to combine them in order to obtain robust extraction method. This thesis is devoted to creating a component system for image vectorization, which is designed to allow easy configuration of shape extraction data-flows. The system's description is followed by a component catalogue that offers basic algorithms for image processing, vectorization and vector output handling. Component configurations as well as typical network scenarios are covered briefly. The proposed system is then compared to similar applications.

The diploma thesis Akademická krize 1969 v Coimbře (The 1969 Academic Crisis in Coimbra) discusses the Coimbra Academic Crisis in both the Portuguese and international contexts. The assessment of the validity of the thesis that the Portuguese student movement in the late 60s was a part of the international movement of '68 is based on the study of sociological theories of social movements and on the comparison with historical events in economically developed democratic countries - United States, Germany, France and Italy. Portuguese student movements were from the beginning connected with student organisations, the so-called associations, which were attempting to change the legislative framework of out-of-school activities. In the authoritative regime of António de Oliveira Salazar, the so-called New state, the primary function of universities was to raise ideologically conscious elites. The restrictive character of the above-mentioned legislative enabled government control of student life. The protest leaders usually maintained contacts with political opposition and subordinated the aims of the movement to the interests of the illegal Communist Party. The Use of Multichannel Flow Cytometry in Biomedicine and Experimental Biology

Flow-cytometry is a process on which large numbers of single cells are quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. This method gives information about size, granularity surface or intracellular markers of every single cell in suspension. In modern biology is worthy to perform quick, objective multiparametric analyses of cell phenotype. This project was focused on cells, which analyses are complicated by extreme rareness or lack of clearly identifying specific markers. Analysis of stromal cells of the investigated tumors (histiocytoma and tumor fibroblasts originating in squamous epithelium: basalioma (BCCF) and spinalioma (SCCF) elucidated alteration of gene expression induced by tumor cells. Tumor-derived stromal fibroblasts acquire distinct properties to shape a microenvironment conducive to altering the phenotypic characteristics of normal epithelial cells in vitro. Reproducible, quick and highly sensitive method of detection extremely rare non-haematopoetic cells (EPC, CEC) was established. Numbers of CFU-En correlate neither with circulating endothelial progenitors nor with matured endothelial cells detected by flowcytometry. Mathematical notation is becoming more important as software is more often used in day-to-day life. Schools are starting to support e-learning, science is penetrating WWW and search engines can handle more complex questions. In the present work, I summarise the state-of-art of available applications which support mathematical input and could be used for graphical user interface (UI) of a mathematical search engine - EgoMath. Since none of the evaluated UIs meet our requirements, I present the design and implementation of yet another mathematical user interface focusing on the identified issues. The main goal of the new mathematical UI is to help the user provide input which will be well understood by the underlying application. Input symbols can be selected from a large domain using a limited set of keys. This must be intuitive and the application should actively aid in this task by providing graphical hints based on the input expression in real time.
