Fear of pain and coping strategies: construction of the DCB 3 inventory

New method for assessment of positive coping in chronic pain is presented. The coping with pain inventory (DCB 3) consists of three scales: Defiance (9 items, Cronbach's = 0, 84), Determination (5, 0,772) and Acceptance (5, 0,75). Relitability and validity was examined on the sample of 104 patients of the Military rehabilitation facility Slapy (45 M, 59F, mean age 55,25, SD 11,5), suffering from chronic pain. The validity criteria were inventories of the Pain center in the Teaching hospital in Motol. All scales were standardised.

The Psychological Aspects of Navigation of the Blind

This dissertation thesis addresses the area of spatial navigation of the blind. The author theoretically deals with a complex interplay of psychological functions involved in spatial navigation with respect to the specific conditions of the blind. The empirical part of the thesis presents an experimental study in the population of the blind (N=44). This study focuses on effects of the stress recovery phase from shortly increased stress levels on the process of learning a new route. The experiment is placed in real-world settings and overcomes some of the methodological flaws typical for this research domain. The research evidence suggests that the recovery phase from shortly increased stress levels hinders the development of procedural knowledge of the route. However, this deterioration in route knowledge is not associated with the effects of the strsss phase itself, but affects only the recovery phase part of the route in which stress levels are returning to their original baseline levels (not necessarily the level of the resting conditions). Besides its theoretical conclusions, the value of the presented thesis is in its contribution to the advancements of research methods in the given field. Psychosocial aspects of chronic disease cystic fibrosis - coping

The Diploma Thesis is dealing with the role of coping strategies in a chronic disease with a special interest in a cystic fibrosis (CF) disorder. In the Introduction section the biology nature of the CF, its psychology impact, as well as, techniques of coping in the respect to chronic disease, mainly to CF, are presented. Moreover, the possibility of a psychology intervention is discussed. Experimental section is devoted to the research performed with the group of 104 individuals of which 63 were parents of CF patients and 41 were adult CF patients. In order to examine coping strategies used in the selected CF groups Cystic Fibrosis Coping Scale Questionary was applied. Obtained data were statistically interpreted using a SPSS software. Results of paired Student's t-test show partial significant differences in coping strategies between groups of adults CF patients and parents of CF patients, groups of men and women, and in group of parents of CF patients classified according to their age. However, in the group of parents no statistically significant differences in relation to the age of their sick children were found.

The quality of life

The quality of life have been a subejct of many studies and thesis for about last fifteen years. This work presents the concept of quality of life, especially from the view of the psychology and the medicine. There are discussed some methodological problems of the measuring and the evaluation of the health-related quality of life and there are also described basic and inportant instruments used in clinical studies. The aim of the second practical part is to illustrate a use of an instrument in a concrete situation - in the evaluation of the health-related quality of life of patients with coronary disease.

Quality of Life, Satisfaction with Life, Social Self-efficacy and People after Acquired Brain Injury.

This thesis is focused on quality of life theme, satisfaction with life topic and social self- efficacy subject, with emphasizing of the acquired brain injury context and specific and unique brain injury consequences. Thesis is based on theoretical fundament of all mentioned concepts, but mainly there are actual quantitative data and results of quality of life, satisfaction with life and social self-efficacy and other-efficacy in the framework of acquired brain injury research sample in Czech Republic. Not only description of quality of different life parts subjective perception, but also search of possible relationships strength between quality of life and social efficacy has been probed. All of these has been used in application of lots of standardized and also new questionnaire and methods. Decision making in choosing a partner in romantic relationships

This master's thesis deals with the topic of decision making when choosing a partner in romantic relationships. It reacts to the phenomenon of looking for a partner via internet dating sites and tries to determine whether the requirements we have for an ideal partner correspond to the real-life selection of a romantic partner. In the theoretical part studies and theoretical concepts concerning romantic partnership are presented - selection of a partner as well as relationship maintenance. The thesis is based on evolutionary-psychological theories (Buss, 1989), experience of partner counselors and theoretical concepts of social psychologists, such as triangular theory of love (Sternberg, 1986) or five love languages (Chapman, 2002). In the decision making area, the thesis relies primarily on Kahneman's (2013) two systems within the dual process theory. The empirical part poses the question whether we spot differences between the preferred characteristics of ideal partner and the subjectively evaluated characteristics of the person who we are attracted to at a real-life meeting, motivated to potentially establish a romantic relationship. Functions of Consciousness in Psychoanalysis and Analytical Psychology

Analysis of the most important functions of consciousness, considering its relations with unconsciousness in psychoanalysis and analytical psychology, is the goal of this thesis. The sources of the thesis are the tophographic and structural models of Sigmund Freud. These models enable analysing the functions of consciousness in the context of psyche structure from the psychoanalytical and psychodynamic point of view. Afterwards the thesis focuses on the extension and the functional autonomy of Ego within the structural subject theory known from authors like A. Freud, Hartmann, Brunner and others. These are the concepts of adaptation and Ego defensive functions especially. Carl Gustav Jung and his concept of the fully antonomous Ego is presented in the end of the theoretical part. The research project, that si being proposed in the very end of this thesis, deals with one of the Ego defense mechanisms - the repression.
