Botany Field Trips
Brabcová, Eliška ; Novotný, Petr (advisor) ; Kroufek, Roman (referee)
This bachelor thesis is devoted to the problem of field education in botany. Based on the available international and Czech literature, the thesis points out the current change in the attitude of the academic and lay public towards botany and the related educational implications. It also presents the dichotomy in the concept of field education - the traditional Czech approach of organizing field trips and the Scandinavian model of uteskole. Furthermore, the thesis questions the benefit of the conventional division of the field trip into stages - preparation, realisation and evaluation - in the context of striving for a more regular and conceptual field education. Within the actual implementation of field education in botany, it discusses selected aspects of nature walks, visits to botanical or school gardens. It bases the value of field-based botany education on the positive results of monitoring the achievement of cognitive and affective learning goals. It also emphasizes its importance in the relationship between the teacher and the group of students. At the same time, the thesis takes a critical look at field-based botany education through the general and individual barriers to its realization. In the context of the contemporary world, it focuses on the implementation of digital technologies in...

Environmental literacy of pre-service teachers of primary school and possibilities of its assessment
Kroufek, Roman
Environmental literacy of pre-service teachers of primary school and possibilities of its assessment Roman Kroufek Abstract In recent decades, the environmental literacy and its output dimension, responsible environmental behavior represents an important construct, which is studied by a number of researchers from many countries. In this dissertation, firstly we introduce environmental literacy from a theoretical point of view, then the development of approaches to this construct as well as a review of research in past decades. In our own research, we initially sought for a suitable research instrument to be used to identify and measure selected aspects of environmental literacy among pre-service primary teachers. The research tool was found in a combination of Nature relatedness scale and Environmental Behavior scale, supplemented by data collection using concept mapping with the central concept of the greenhouse effect. The variables that affect various aspects of environmental literacy were found on a sample of more than five hundred of the respondents using this tool and its modifications. Higher values were found within the respondents who were engaged in regular environmentally-themed activities, respondents from villages up to 100 inhabitants and the older respondents. The nature relatedness has...

Comparison of Environmental Awareness of Pupils from Traditional and Alternative Elementary Schools
Sokolíková, Eliška ; Dvořáková, Radka (advisor) ; Kroufek, Roman (referee)
The thesis compares environmental awareness of conventional and alterna- tive lower secondary school students. The qualitative research was performed through a group interview, where participants expressed their opinion on par- ticular environmental topics and gave examples of their behaviour and expe- rience related to those fields, which showed a true level of their environmental protection awareness. The concept of the interviews was chosen to disclose an individual factors that can affect environmental awareness (school, family, af- ter school activity etc.). The schools, which students were selected from, were sorted out not only by the criterion of conventionality but by approach to en- vironmental protection as well. Following findings are, for example, included among these criteria: If the school has an environmental coordinator, whether students are motivated in compliance with the proactive environmental po- licy, if and in what extent is waste separated in the particular school and the like. The main factors, that can, according to the survey results, partake in the affection of the students' environmental awareness, are described in the thesis (family, school, internet and other media, hobbies, relationship to nature and more). The comparison of school approach to environmental...
Design and testing of students'materials for a field trip to Brdy area
Přibylová, Anna ; Janštová, Vanda (advisor) ; Kroufek, Roman (referee)
The reason why I chose this topic is that field trips (short-term or long-term) have demonstrable effect on students' knowledge, values and attitudes as well as teachers' skills. The objective of this thesis was to prepare a field trip including all needed teaching materials and evaluate it's effect on students' knowledge. Created teaching materials were tested in four classes in two primary school in Příbram and a nearby village. Students from these schools were divided into two groups - experimental and control. The experimental group attended the field trip and the control group got involved in the same program but at school. Both groups completed pretest, teaching, posttest 1 (with a feedback about teaching), posttest 2 and 3. Data collected from this research were evaluated using statistical methods. The results from these methods proved a significant difference of knowledge between groups in posttest 1 and 2. The score of both groups gained in posttest 3 was similar. We can conclude that students of both groups learned new information and their knowledge improved. Nevertheless the field trip had significantly higher effect on students' knowledge than the school lesson. Key words: teaching methods, field trip, students' knowledge, knowledge testing

The nature relatedness has moderately positive effect on the responsible environmental behavior, cognitive component of environmental literacy does not have such influence. The international comparison showed lower results from the respondents from Slovakia in comparison with students from the Czech Republic and Turkey. Nature relatedness scale proved to be useful for measuring a particular element of the affective component of environmental literacy across countries, by contrast, Environmental behavior scale reached low psychometric results on all foreign respondents.
