Morphology of the Moravice valley head, the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains
Steffanová, Petra ; Engel, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Křížek, Marek (referee)
There are several amphitheatrical valley heads in the Hrubý Jeseník mountains. Velká kotlina is situated bellow Vysoká hole mountain and has been an object of interest since 19th century. Several methods of geomorfological research were used to prove pleistocene glaciation in the area. The aim of diploma work is to extend knowledge about morphology and genesis of Velká kotlina. Study area was limited by distribution board till the first right affluent of Moravice. Morphometrics characteristic of the cirque were analyzed in GIS 9.3 enviroment. Identification of the shape and size of glacial accumulations during which was used method of longitudinal and transverse shaping showed the posibility of Quartenary glaciation. Cirque is built with less resistant rocks that caused that evidence of the glaciation is not so significant as it is in Šumava mountains or Krkonoše mountains. There are two moraines identified at the valley of river Moravice. The upper one that was created during the last recession of glacier devides cirque floor into two degrees. Frontal moraine is situated behind the lip of the cirque and shows the maximum of glacier expansion. Identification of these two morains were supported by analysis of glacier sediments and by georadar method. Even though existence of moraines suggests...

With a various geomorphological terms meets each of us, for everybody it is good to know at least a basic geomorphological terms. In Czech schools geomorphology is taught in geography. This work studies the geomorphological terms in Czech secondary school geographical textbooks. The aim of this work was to evaluate textbooks in terms of quantity, but also quality of geomorphological terms. Selected books were from year 1989 till today, had different topics and they were designed for different types of secondary schools. The book evaluation was based on several criteria, subsequently was made a simple statistical analysis. The results of the work can help middle-school teachers to decide for the right textbook used for teaching geomorphology. Keywords: geomorphological terms, textbooks, evaluation.
Comparation of frost hummocks in the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. and Iceland.
Vejrostová, Monika ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Treml, Václav (referee)
This paper is focused on comparation of frost hummocks in the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. and in the Mosfellsheiði area in Iceland in terms of their external and internal characteristics as well as their thermal characteristics. Field work in Mosfellsheiði provided height, length, and width data of more than 120 frost hummocks which were analyzed and compared to frost hummocks in Keprník and Tabulové skály location in the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. Soil samples from frost hummocks were taken to determine frost susceptibility of soils. Based on ground temperature measurements at depth of 15 and 30 cm in the frost hummocks in Iceland and the Hrubý Jeseník Mts., freeze-thaw cycles were investigated. The results show that frost hummocks in the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. are larger but less domed-shaped than those in Mosfellsheiði. Further, soils in frost hummocks are frost susceptible. The highest numbers of freeze-thaw cycles were identified in Iceland. It was also found out that freeze-thaw processes occurred in the frost hummocks in Tabulové skály but in Keprník location were very few freeze-thaw cycles observed. Short term freeze-thaw cycles at the end of regelation seasons mostly show diurnial frequency. At the 30 cm depths only one or two regelations were observed during a single season. Structure of non-active sorted patterned ground in the Giant Mts.
Uxa, Tomáš ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Treml, Václav (referee)
Sorted patterned ground are a group of periglacial microforms which create more or less symmetrical forms due to frost action and especially repeated freeze-thaw cycles. The origin of sorted patterned ground in the Giant Mts. is presumed in late Pleistocene and they are suggested to be recently inactive (with the exception of sorted circles). Their occurrence is linked to the topmost localities with flat surfaces and intense wind action which causes low snow cover and allow deep soil freezing. The submitted diploma thesis deals with the influence of site characteristics (such as microclimatic extremity, terrain morphology and lithology) on morphology and sorting degree of sorted patterned ground. Field research was carried out along a transect tracing the microclimatic extremity gradient (represented by altitude and so-called relative snow height) in area of Mt. Luční hora in the eastern part of the Giant Mts. which in relatively homogeneous from the viewpoint of lithology and wind exposure. The transect was further extended across the Modré sedlo Saddle to the Mt. Studniční hora where there also occur various types of fossil sorted patterned ground or quasi- active sorted circles in the Modré sedlo Saddle, respectively. However, there is a variability of lithological as well as altitude...
Freeze-thaw processes, temperature and moisture trends in earth hummocks
Kodríková, Anna ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Treml, Václav (referee)
Earth hummocks are nonsorted patterned ground types. This thesis is primary focused on the study of temperature regime particularly during freeze-thaw process and also on factors that affect its non-uniformity. Secondary, it refers to the relation between temperature and moisture regime, morphometric characteristics of earth hummocks and their geographical expansion in the world. The information from the literature search is applied to the results from temperature and moisture measurements of the earth hummocks in depths 5 - 40 cm in the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains - Keprník peak in 2005 - 2010. The results show that many factors affect the non-uniformity of temperature regime in different parts of earth hummocks. The most important of them are: the shape of the earth hummock, the aspect orientation, the distribution and the height of snow cover, the wind exposure and the presence of vegetation. There is an interaction between the soil moisture content and the temperature regime, and they are mutually affected. The obtained results from the Keprník study area are compared with the literature data about the earth hummocks in the world. Key words: patterned ground, earth hummock, temperature regime, moisture, regelation, Keprník peak, Hrubý Jeseník Mountains
Schmidthammer test as a tool for determining of the relative age of glacial sediments
Procházková, Barbora ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Vočadlová, Klára (referee)
The bachelor thesis is concerned with the use of the Schmidt Hammer as a relative age dating tool of glacigenic landforms. The Schmidt Hammer test is based on the assumption that there is a mutual relation between the degree of weathering of a particular surface and the duration of its exposure. Information about the degree of weathering is expressed by the rebound value (R value). With increasing weathering of a surface the mean R value decreases. Relationship between the R value and the absolute age of a tested surface obtained by numerical dating methods is expressed by the age calibration curve. Principles, conditions and limitations of the Schmidt Hammer test in glacigenous environment were characterized according to the literature. The majority of tested sites were localized in Europe, especially in Scandes. According to the results of statistical analyses, the R value significantly correlates with the altitude and climatic characteristics (mean annual air temperature, mean annual amount of precipitation). For the moraines built-up by granitic material, R value increases with increasing altitude. On the contrary, the R value decreases with the increasing amount of precipitation and mean annual air temperature. Granite proven to be the most suitable material for testing due to small standard...

Block fields in the Giant Mts.
Smolíková, Jana ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Hartvich, Filip (referee)
This diploma thesis is dealing with the study of the block fields in the Krkonoše Mountains. One of the features with which it is dealing is their distribution in the study area and it searches the influence of this distribution in the dependance on the morphometric character of the relief. Moreover, the inner and outer characteristics of the structure of the block fields are being studied. The outer structure was firstly investigated on the basis of the morphometric characteristics observed in DMR (digital model of relief) and orto photo maps and subsequently the characteristics of the inner structure were studied during the terraine geomorphologic researching. The following data were observed - for the outer characteristics: litology, exposition of the slope, angle of the block fields, area (log), index of the solar radiation, the length of the axis x and y of the block fields, excentricity of the shape of the block field, the altitude; and for the outer characteristics: deviation of the axis x from the downslope, the location of the block, angularity of the block, 'R' values, the length of the axis x and y of the block, the height of the block, excentricity of the block, inclination of the block and angle of the block. The influence of the given characteristics on the accumulation of the block fields and...
Impact of fluvial-morphological macrostructrus on the physical habitat of streams.
Strachota, Pavel ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Křížek, Marek (referee)
This thesis main goal is to nd the main parameters describing fluvial-morphological macrostructures due physical habitat of streams on example study of Zlatý potok stream and Mandát stream. To perform this study was used technique of neural network. Neural network method make possible to make both qualitative and quantitative survey of particular parameters and their weights. Fundamental data used for this thesis was got by mapping regions of interest with two ecohydromorphological methods EcoRivHab and RHS. Information about physical habitat of mapped streams was realized from map's basis (ZABAGED) and by mapping (e.g. valley relief by laser gradiometer, bed loads). Data processing was realized in two parts. In the first part the regions of interest were quali ed to both of the methods. Neural network was seeded by data from mapping of the Zlatý potok stream. In the second part results of mapping for all of the streams were compared by technique of neural network. This way it was possible to evaluate di erences among natural parts of streams in geographically di erent areas and also major and minor parameters both of the used methods for mappings.
