Dramatization of Ivan Olbracht's novel the Bandit Nikolai Shuhai
Mládková, Nela ; Janoušek, Pavel (advisor) ; Brožová, Věra (referee)
ENGLISH SUMMARY In my diploma thesis called The Dramatization of Ivan Olbracht's novel The Bandit Nikolai Shuhai I have concentrated primarily on the adaptation most appreciated by readers as well as, in my opinion, the adaptation of the best quality. In chapter one I focused on Olbracht's novel, precisely on the theme genesis in The Bandit Nikolai Shuhai, which was based on a real-life event. The public responses on the book, which was awarded the state prize for a literary work of art in 1933, are reflected as well. We also deal with blending of the myth with reality, the language and stylistic processing of the novel, and with the main protagonists. Personally, I consider Olbracht's The Bandit Nikolai Shuhai one of the greatest pieces within the Czech literature of 20th century. There are two reasons for which the theme of the novel became a good-quality and favourite basis for further processing: it tells an engaging story of a real-life figure and it is situated in a place which impresses us, Europeans, with enchanting exoticism of its landscape and culture. Chapter two deals with the work of Petr Ulrych which was inspired by Olbracht's novel. Ulrych's first product based on this literary work was a monothematic LP The Bandit Nikolai Shuhai (released in 1974). A year later those thirteen songs were...

Three forms of split personality in Czech prose (Ivan Olbracht, Egon Hostovský, Ladislav Fuks)
Balcarová, Martina ; Janoušek, Pavel (advisor) ; Klumparová, Štěpánka (referee)
The theme of this thesis is a motive of split personality in Czech prose. My aim was to determine how the topic was elaborated in Czech and world literature and in specific cases to show the different types of split personality. Much of the work is focused on specific works of Czech literature of the 20th century. I analyzed this motif in both literary and psychological terms. In each of these works is another type of split personality, but you can compare some common features.
Self-stylization in the Work of Ludvík Vaculík
Stejskalová, Klára ; Janoušek, Pavel (advisor) ; Brožová, Věra (referee)
Cílem této práce je interpretovat způsoby autostylizace v díle Ludvíka Vaculíka. Teoretická část se zabývá problémem: 1. stylizace a autostylizace, způsobu transformace životního materiálu v umělecké dílo; 2. autora, autorského subjektu a budování sebemýtu; 3. autenticity v literatuře a možnosti autenticity v deníkové literatuře. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
The bottomless pit: the diverse portrayal of the miner as the subject in Czech literature
Sedlářová, Barbora ; Janoušek, Pavel (advisor) ; Mravcová, Marie (referee)
The main topic of this thesis is a portrait of the miner as a character in Czech literature. It follows some of the selected pieces, which begin at the start of 20th century leading up to 1978. The pieces are separated into three main groups (social novels of the 1st half of 20th century, drama from the 50's and the novels of the Czech political detainee). There are a couple of aspects that reflect the method of portrayal of the miner and its process; firstly, its the relationship between the narrator and the character, and secondly, the variation can be found within four aspects of the character of the miner - the visual aspect, activity, surroundings and language. There is a note about the authors at the beginning of every chapter.
Karel Krejčí's Comparative Approaches in his Understanding of Czech and Polish Literature
Matějková, Veronika ; Janoušek, Pavel (advisor) ; Svatoň, Vladimír (referee) ; Trávníček, Jiří (referee)
The thesis documents and interprets the conflict between the literary discourses of the time on the one hand, and the specific approach of Karel Krejčí (1904-1979), comparatist, Slavist and Czech studies scholar, on the other hand. Based on the Krejčí's studies on literary history and comparative literature, as well as his participation in the methodological debates of his time, the thesis analyses the impact of this conflict on the author's literary theory method, and his work of a literary historian and comparatist in general. The analysis is based on the ambiguous reception of Krejčí's scientific work: while he is recognised as a great personality in the field of Slavic studies, he is considered an outsider in the general context of Czech literary science. The thesis describes how the author, with his methodological approach, was in opposition to the prevailing trend. As a Slavic studies scholar he criticised the 'influence science' and positivist methods employed in the field. In the period between the two world wars he inclined towards the sociology of literature, although this discipline did not become popular. While he was interested in phenomenology and formalism, he defended his 'historical-sociological' approach against structuralism, which was gaining ground. In the 1950s Krejčí wrote a...
Jewishness and Czechness in the Work of Viktor Fischel
O Fischlově češství pak vypovídá motiv krásy rodinných vztahů, Praha a archetyp české vesnice. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

The Hidden Avant-Garde. Czech Avant-Garde Fiction between Individualism and Collectivism
Malá, Zuzana ; Janoušek, Pavel (advisor) ; Hrbata, Zdeněk (referee) ; Flaišman, Jiří (referee)
in English This work focuses on the Czech afterwar avant-garde and its fiction in the wider European context. The main goal of our writing was diversifying literary historical field by integrating genre of short story and its authors into the interpretive frame of the prepoetistic avant-garde. We could intrude a canonic picture of the Czech avant-garde by enriching the interpretive frame of the new genre (short story) and new, often hardly known or forgotten, writers. Last but not least by doing so we were able to questioned and problematized basic oppositions such as expressionism × avant-garde, and mainly individualism × collectivism. We introduce the principal opposition individualism × collectivism, which in our opinion, organizes afterwar literary discourse, as a main connecting line between Czech avant-garde art and European art (collective and one of its manifestation - crowd, as one of the main themes of modernism and avant-garde). We interpretate beyond this scope the fictions of French unanimism as the main inspiration of the Czech afterwar avan-garde and its (collective) fiction as well.
