The impact of migration on the Badaga community

The main topic of the bachelor thesis entitled "The Impact of Migration on the Badaga community" is the phenomenon of migration among the Badagas, a community from the Nilgiris dicstrict in Tamilnadu in South India. In past few decades there are many Badagas moving to cities or abroad in search of better job opportunities. This type of migration influences the way of life of all the members of the community. The Nilgiris and its inhabitants, especially the Badagas, are introduced at the beginning of the thesis. This brief description is followed by a summery of the theoretical sociological and anthropological bases for the studies of migration and several phenomena related to it (industrialization and urbanization, globalization, identity and culture change). Those phenomena are related to the developement of the Nilgiris district and the change of the way of life of the Badagas. At the close a few concepts for the future etnographical fieldwork, focused on migration and its impact on the material culture of the Badagas, are brought out.
