Skurčáková, Karolína ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Kalibová, Květa (referee)
Demographic dividend and population momentum in China and India: Evaluation of the current course and potential future development Abstract This thesis compares demographic dividends and population momentum in China and India. This thesis aims to define these terms theoretically, describe the mutual relation between them and evaluate the current and future development of the population due to the course and potential effects of the analysed phenomena. The main factors which affect formation and usage of demographic dividends are presented from literature. These factors are analysed using the display of the development of indicators that represent them. Using total dependency ratio, the current value of the demographic dividend is analysed, and future development is predicted. Two modified ratios that consider healthy life expectancy and labour force participation rate are introduced. Influence of population momentum to future population and demographic dividend is indicated with momentum variant of projection United Nations to total population and total dependency ratio. The results of this work provide information about the temporal development of demographic dividend and population momentum in these countries. Modified ratios denoted possible higher share of dependent persons than in the case of...

Dušek, Adam ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Fialová, Ludmila (referee)
Demographic development in Cambodia since the second half of the 20th century Abstract This thesis deals with the population development in Cambodia since the second half of the 20th century. The objective of the thesis is to characterize population development in Cambodia during 1950-2020, focusing on the period of the 1970s. A sub-objective is to put demographic development into a historical context. The topic was analyzed through a study of relevant literature and subsequent demographic analysis based on data from the World Population Prospects database, other UN institutions and publications of notable scholars. It has been confirmed that the events that took place in the country during the Khmer Rouge rule from 1975 to 1979 had a significant impact on the population development and direction of the country. Extreme violence and harsh living conditions claimed at least 1.5 million victims. The age-sex structure was fundamentally distorted by the high excess mortality of young men. A period of increased fertility followed, but soon declined. Cambodia's population rose from 4.4 million to 16.7 million during the period under review. However, population growth has been slowing down due to declining fertility and high emigration. Keywords Cambodia, demographic development, Khmer Rouge, excess mortality

Comparison of cardiovascular mortality in France and the Czech Republic in the period 1965-1985 and possibilities of presentation of the results of analysis to public Abstract This Thesis has two main relatively independent goals. The first aim is a comparison of cardiovascular mortality in France and the Czech Republic during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. According to the mortality, in this period, the Czech Republic began lag behind demographically developed countries of Western Europe. The Thesis focuses on the development of overall mortality in both selected countries and it is specifically devoted to the cardiovascular mortality as the main cause of death, which negatively affected the development of mortality in the Czech Republic. The analysis is based on the application of the principle of indirect standardization, whose the results are more conceivable for the general public. The second goal deals with the possibilities of presentation results of demographic analysis to the general public and mapping current ways of presenting data to non-professionals. The found recommendations and information were applied during the preparation of the poster which was created as a part of this Thesis and can be found in the appendix. Keywords: France, Czech Republic, diseases of cardiovascular system, principle of...
Process and timing of cardiovascular revolution in selected European countries
Raymanová, Petra ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Velková, Alice (referee)
Process and timing of cardiovascular revolution in selected European countries Abstract Structure of mortality according to age, sex and causes of death is changing over time. Several authors are trying to describe or generalize these changes and create theories or concepts about the changes in mortality structure. One of these concepts is cardiovascular revolution. This concept describes changes in mortality in Europe is the second half of 20th century. Nevertheless in some European countries these changes are still in progress. The concept of cardiovascular revolution concerns the decrease of cardiovascular disease mortality. Within cardiovascular diseases the highest mortality is caused by ischemic heart diseases. The prevalence of some chronic or degenerative diseases is not decreasing or is slightly increasing and overall mortality shifts to higher ages. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate process and timing of cardiovascular revolution in selected European countries. The objective was achieved by means of interpretation of the basic demographic methods. In the first part of this thesis were these methods calculated and presented for every single group of causes of death separately. Cardiovascular diseases were split into four more detailed subgroups in the next part of thesis and the analysis was...
Process of demographic transition and possible use of demographic dividend in selected countries of the MENA region
Vávrů, Tereza ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Kraus, Jaroslav (referee)
Process of demographic transition and possible use of demographic dividend in selected countries of the MENA region Abstract The aim of this work is to evaluate the course of demographic transition in the MENA region, mainly in two selected countries - Iran and Iraq. The course of this demographic transition is evaluated based on the analysis of fertility and mortality. Another aim is to evaluate the possible use of the demographic dividend that may occur in these countries. This is mainly to evaluate the key factors which affect the demographic dividend. First, we analyze the development of the age structure which is crucial for defining the beginning and the length of the period of the demographic dividend. Then comes the analysis of other factors such as health, education and employment of the population. These factors determine whether a country is able to effectively exploit the potential of the demographic dividend. It is obvious that not only the favorable age structure but also properly directed government policy is necessary for the period of demographic dividend. In conclusion we summarize the findings of analysis by which we determine at which stages of demographic transition Iran and Iraq are located. In addition, we approximately define the period of the demographic dividend in these two...
Application of (geo)demographic methods in education
Šebestík, Libor ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Fialová, Ludmila (referee)
Application of (geo)demographic methods in education Abstract This master's thesis presents the possibilities of application of demographic, geodemographic and statistical methods on data published by the educational sector. The methods of demographic analysis are represented by the usage of rates, the concept of multistate demography (Markov chains) and the application of life tables. The enrollment ratio at particular levels of education, the average length of schooling and the number of dropouts from school grades are evaluated by these procedures. Markov chains which are based on the probabilities of transition between grades are also examined in terms of their use for forecasting purposes. These methods analyze the situation at the preschool, primary and secondary levels and are used on data from the annual Statistical Yearbooks on Education. In the field of geodemography, the so called preferential model of migration flows is presented. This model examines how applicants for tertiary education prefer or reject the regions of the Czech Republic for their tertiary education studies. The last method is the binary logistic regression which analyzes the inequalities in access to tertiary education. Both preferential model and logistic regression are based on data files on the admission process at...
Mortality patterns and trends in postcommunist countries compared with low mortality populations
Mukhtarova, Zhanyl ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
Mortality patterns and trends in post-communist countries compared with low mortality populations Zhanyl Mukhtarova Abstract This research primarily addresses mortality patterns and trends in the post-communist countries of Central Asia, Central Europe and the Baltic region together with low mortality populations such as those of France, Spain and the United States of America. The aim of this research is to analyze mortality patterns and trends in selected post-communist countries and contrast them with low mortality populations between the period of 1990 and 2006. In this study, the main age-specific mortality intensities and the excess male mortality among the selected countries were analyzed. Moreover, the historical overview of mortality development in the selected countries and population longevity was discussed. Concurrently, the influence of socioeconomic conditions and healthy lifestyles and their implications and impact on declining mortality rates were revealed. The research clearly identified several important issues encasing the field of mortality, notably that more work and financial support is necessary to improve the health status of countries within Central Asia.
