The role of boarding schools for the Deaf in the Czech Republic - since 1786 to present days

(in English): This bachelor thesis presents the history and development of institutional care at the Czech boarding schools for the hearing impaired, as well as at the then institutes for the Deaf and dumb from 1786 to present. It describes the regime at these boarding schools, extracurricular activities of the pupils, pedagogical supervision and the schools facilities. The school regime is dealt with according to centuries. The bachelor work also brings up the issue of the Deaf communities, both home and abroad and explores the impact of the boarding schools on the community. The findings are interpreted in the light of individual development of the child staying in a boarding school, namely its impact on child's personality. The work draws data from the specialized past and present bibliography, legislative norms and other relevant documents. The final part of the bachelor thesis presents the results of the findings concerning the issue of hearing impaired children in residential care. They prove that children staying in boarding schools suffer from deprivation which is, furthermore, enhanced in case of deaf children who lack an opportunity to communicate in their mother tongue, i.e. sign language with the peers. Teaching literature at secondary vocational schools for the Deaf in the Czech Republic - description of current situation in two selected schools

This bachelor's thesis deals with the current situation of teaching literature at two selected secondary vocational school for hearing impaired. The thesis consists of two parts. The first section describes documents related to literary education, marginally describes the specifics of teaching people with hearing impairments and then legislative, curriculum and methodological documents are analysed. In the second part of the work, data collection took place trough semi-structured interviews, in which the interviewed teachers described the course of teaching literature and the circumstances associated with teaching. The following is a summary of semi-structured interviews and correlations with theoretical knowledge of curricular documents. The aim of the research is to map the current situation of teaching literature at two secondary vocational schools for hearing impaired. The bachelor thesis focuses on the means universities in the Czech Republic use to make studies accessible to students with hearing impairment (students who are deaf, hard of hearing and deafened). The thesis is a survey. The aim is to map the current extent of services (such as interpreting, visualisation, lecture/seminar recording) that support the students in their studies at particular public universities in connection with the contemporary legislation.
Leisure and interest activities pupils from school for hearing impaired pupils

7 Abstract In its theoretical part this bachelor thesis deals with the definition of leisure time and presents the most prestigious leisure institutions and organizations in the Czech Republic. It especially focuses on the specifics of leisure time of hearing-impaired children and youth. It briefly describes the range of leisure activities that are available at schools and hearing loss organization in several cities. In the practical part the questionnaire and survey data are analysed. Attention has also been paid to the difference between leisure time of surveyed boarding and non-boarding pupils. Learning Czech language in the 1 - 3 grade of elementary schools for hearing impaired - description of current situation and potentiality of innovation

This thesis is focused on problems of teaching in school subject Czech Language in 1 - 3 grade of elementary schools for hearing impaired. The whole issue is put into the theoretical framework, which delimit specify of hearing impaired pupils education and the goals which this pupils should achieve in elementary education and primarily in language education too. Special attention is paid to problems of teaching reading and writing - ways to acquiring reading literacy in hearing impaired pupils. Presented are methods of teaching reading and writing and I am thinking about their applicability in hearing impaired pupils education. Is given an idea of teaching in school subject Czech Language in Elementary schools for hearing impaired in history (1948 - 1990), in detail I analyze teaching materials used in that time. Current situation of teaching in school subject Czech Language is describe on the grounds of research probe realized in school year 2011/2012 on four selected elementary schools for hearing impaired in the Czech Republic. The identity of hard of hearing people

The bachelor thesis deals with identity of hard of hearing people. This thesis is based on the relevant scientific literature and is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The contents of the theoretical part are the identity and characteristics and clasification of elements affecting the identity of a person in general. The thesis focuses on identity formation of hard of hearing people in detail. The author also describes issues of subcultures, particularly the subculture of hard of hearing people. The practical part uses investigation to verify elements affecting hard of hearing people identity listed in the theoretical part. In the conclusion, the author summarizes the findings from both the investigation and the relevant scientific literature and formulates recommendations, which suggest way to minimize negative elements in the process of identity forming and support healthy identity development of a hard of hearing individual.
Aphasia in Czech Sign Language Users

(in English) The topic of the bachelor thesis is the manifestations of aphasia in deaf people - Czech Sign Language Users. The basic definition of this disorder is presented and the existing considerations about the localization of language in the brain are described. Attention is also focused on the contributions of linguistics to the study of aphasia. The central part of this thesis is concerned with aphasia in sign language. It describes the manifestations of this speech disorder in the foreign sign languages studied so far. The work includes two case studies of deaf patients - speakers of Czech sign language who show manifestations of the fatal disorder due to acquired brain damage. The case studies are aimed at describing different representations of aphasia in different language levels.
Involvement of deaf children in leisure activities: a probe into the current situation in the Czech Republic

Most of the current Czech theseses dealing with the education of deaf children focus their attention on the so-called school Education, taking place at school, but they neglect out-of- school or leisure education. At the same time, it is the "leisure activities" that undoubtedly have a significant impact on children's lives - including deaf children. The bachelor thesis is closely focused on the involvement of deaf children in leisure activities in elementary art schools, youth centres and units of the organization Junák - Czech Scout. The aim of this thesis is to chart the participation of deaf children in leisure and educational activities during 2017-2020, to find out whether support provisions are used and to describe what influences, whether subjective or objective, affect the involvement of deaf children in the activities of the monitored "leisure centers". Visual note-taking as one of the study strategies of Deaf students

(in English) The paper deals with the use of visual note-taking strategy by Czech, deaf, university students who prefer Czech sign language in face-to-face communication. The design of the thesis is based on the Deaf Gain perspective and aims to describe how the selected students work with learning strategies, specifically with note taking and note making, and whether they benefit from their ability to visually structure the world around them in this area. The core of the thesis is a research probe in which semi-structured interviews with seven respondents mapped what forms of visual note-taking they use, why and in what situations they apply them and how they mastered them. Learning Disabilities in Hearing-impaired Children

(anglicky): The bachelor thesis discusses a topic of specific learning disabilities in hearing-impaired children, therefore deaf and hard of hearing children. The aim of the paper is to describe the current state of research in the area of specific learning disabilities in hearing-impaired and to map the current approach to these children in special education centres in Czech Republic. For mapping of the current work with hearing-impaired children with specific learning disabilities the results of a research are used. The research was carried out through interviews with several special education centres' employees. The analysis of the interviews showed that work procedures used with this population in Czech Republic are not very elaborate and unified. Diagnostic methods and approaches to education of deaf and hard of hearing children with specific learning disabilities are largely dependent on individual centers.
