The world of Arlt's tales
Bláhová, Tereza ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (referee)
The main focus of this thesis is the interpretation of the view of the world in two of the short stories of Argentinean writer Roberto Arlt. The thesis is based on essay of the foundation, evolution and theory of short story. Both the global point of view and the perspectives of Hispano-American authors Horacio Quiroga, Julio Cortázar and Jorge Luis Borges are considered. In addition, this work describes Argentinean society at the turn of the 19th into the 20th century, the society being the main period of Arlt's pieces. The context of the literature in Buenos Aires in the 1920s and 1930s is also described to introduce the writer's position among his contemporaries. A brief introduction of Roberto Arlt's biography and writings is included as background. All of these factors are addressed in the analysis of the short stories "The Little Hunchback" and "Ester Primavera." The analysis is targeted at the style and method used to create the short stories and about the acts and life situations of its characters. Arlt's integration of lower social class and colloquial language in literature, his interest in the individual existence, and the gradual elimination of the boundary between reality and fiction, inspired many writers of the following generation.

The Question of the Influence of Heinrich Heine on the Work of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer
Melíšková, Vendula ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
The principal motive for this diploma thesis was to prove or to falsify the known theoretical possibility of interconnection between two different (non-bordering) literatures - that of Germany and that of Spain, via the works of their two essential 19th century poets, respectively, Heinrich Heine and Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. This connection is often assumed, especially in the critical editions of the works of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, as well as in some literary handbooks. Nevertheless, these assumptions often lack clear explanations. Regarding the methods of proving or disproving these theories mentioned above, I have drawn on all accessible theoretical works, analysing (mainly German) influences on the works of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. I also found it pertinent to view the works of both authors throughout time and place, in an attempt to identify analogies not only in the world of literature, but also in their real lives. Last but not least, I have tried to apply my own critical analysis to selected poems and legends of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer to support the theoretical works with concrete examples. Concluding from the evidence of their contemporaries, as well as from the theoretical works of the literary critics, I have confirmed that neither Heine nor Bécquer had mastered the other language. In...

Núňez Tayupanta, Lucie ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Poláková, Dora (referee) ; Riebová, Markéta (referee)
Reflection of the Indigenous World in the 20th Century Latin American Essay PhDr. Lucie Núñez Tayupanta Abstract This dissertation focuses on the study of essayistic works which reflect the presence of indigenous world and its cultural traditions in Latin America. The aim of this work is to answer the question of how Latin-American essayists consider the contribution of the indigenous heritage to the creation of national identity. Furthermore, the work aims to point out the differences in approach of the essayists and to emphasize specific elements of this process in their works. At the beginning, the thesis deals with the theoretical definition of the genre of essay which is primarily based on studies of Spanish and Latin-American critics. The main part is devoted to the analysis of six essayistic works where three different approaches to the relationship between cultures are evident. The harmonic conception is present in the work of the Mexican writer Alfonso Reyes. Reyes finds common features between the original (pre- Columbian) and the contemporary culture and observes a blending of these two units. In the case of Reyes' text, we can see an effort to find a harmony in the fusion of cultures, the European and indigenous tradition. In the second approach, the dramatic, there can be found two views....
Devil Guardian: The Theme of Identity in Mexican Novel on the break of the Millenium.
Alon, Andrea ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee) ; Riebová, Markéta (referee)
The theme of the dissertation submitted is the novel Devil Guardian, whose author is a Mexican writer Xavier Velasco. This dissertation is the very first theoretical work in the Czech environment, devoted to the above-mentioned piece of literature published in 2004. In a sense, Devil Guardian represents a characteristic Mexican novel of the early 21st century, combining tradition and novelty in a surprising and original manner. A significant feature of the contemporary Mexican literature is a departure from the theme of Mexicanity, generally from a programmatic indulging in so-called national literature. Velasco's novel is an exemplary, however, not only piece of literature proving that the literary break-up with Mexico is neither an exclusive nor a dominant attribute of the contemporary Mexican fiction. In Devil Guardian Velasco focuses his mind on the theme of personal and national identity, which he treats in a considerably nontraditional manner, giving an ironical turn to speak to a hypermodern girl moving in the globalized world. The dissertation is divided into six parts. The first part "Originality Rooted in Tradition" refers to Devil Guardian ensuing the tradition of Mexican novel and innovating it. The second part "Xavier Velasco" briefly introduces the author's life and work. The issues...
Argirópolis - aspects of essay and utopia
Šimková, Tereza ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (referee)
The purpose of this work is an interpretation of the essay Argiropolis written by Argentine author Domingo Faustino Sarmiento. This work aims to determine the aspects of the essay and the utopia in Sarmiento΄s work; the interpretation, i. e. reading of the text in wider context, integrates Argiropolis into the contexts of the essay and the utopia in order for the present work to transcend the writing΄s historical ambit and portray the timelessness of Sarmiento΄s ideas. The first part of this work examines the essayistic genre, describes its genesis and sources in Europe and Latin America. This section accentuates the singularity of the Latin American essayistic tradition and presents the basic characterization of the form of essay. The analysis of essayistic aspects of Sarmiento΄s book is based on characteristic attributes of the essay. The second part of the work is focused on the utopia. In the context of the utopia, this work attempts to elucidate why Sarmiento preferred the genre of essay to the novelistic genre, while creating a book containing utopian aspects. The last part of the present work is focused on the peculiarity of the Latin American utopian thinking and includes the analysis of the aspects of the utopia in Argiropolis. Antonio Machado y Álvarez: flamenco lyrics
Vlková, Jana ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
The present work concentrates on the analysis of the most significant aspects of the flamenco lyrics gathered by Spanish folclorist Antonio Machado y Álvarez (Demófilo) in his anthologies Colección de Cantes Flamencos and Cantes Flamencos y Cantares. The collected material consists of short units of poetry called coplas flamencas, which comprise of some few verses. These are used as segments, of which the whole flamenco composition is being built. The first important characteristics, determined by the brevity of the form, is the utmost simplicity and concision of expression: the limited space of these texts does not reduce their capacity for intensive expression. Quite the opposite, often the resulting effect is enhanced, as less is said. As nothing in these texts is autotelic, also the images of the external world serve, in these texts centered on the human being and its inner world, their purpose: they reflect the inner reality. The fact that the subjective inner reality is in the centre of flamenco poetry manifests itself also in that the personal experience is the principal subject, presented from the first person perspective or its capacity for creating the impression of autobiographicity. The expression and sharing of personal experience functions as an advice and a source of information...
