Completion of Nuclear Power Plant Temelín and its possible impact on Czech Republic's position in electricity trade
Fučík, Václav ; Němcová, Ingeborg (advisor) ; Horák, Jiří (referee)
This work tries to answer the question, if completion of the Nuclear Power Plant Temelín is necessary and advantegous. The completion is important for electricity market stability in the region of Central Europe. In Czech Republic's neighbouring states prevails the tendency of reducing their production capacities (for example German nuclear phase-out or closing of Polish coal power plants), the demand for Czech electricity will be probably ensured. Many of European states exploit nuclear energy, therefore it is not likely to ban it. Nuclear energy does not burden the environment and its exploitation is in comparison with other energy sources economically more favorable. Energy production using renewable sources is not stable and reliable enough, therefore it is impossible to build the whole electricity production sector on them. It is necessary to keep in mind the possible depletion of fossil fuels, which are for electricity production crucial at this time. On the other hand, there is a sufficient amount of nuclear fuels.

Another way to encourage energy stability is to increase the efficiency of energy use, which leads among others to a reduction of the European dependence on supplies and it also lower resource depletion.
