Motive of responsibility in the prose of Ladislav Dvořák

(in English): This bachelor's thesis examines the prose work of Ladislav Dvořák (1920-1983) with regard to the dimension of responsibility. It briefly describes the individual short story sets and their narrative situations according to the typology of Franz Karel Stanzel. The work focuses on the analysis of story situations in which responsibility appears as a motive. It touches the poetic work only marginally. Finally, it comments on the personality of Ladislav Dvořák and the dimension of responsibility in his life.

Intertextuality in Josef Jedlička's Short Story Kde život náš je v půli se svou poutí

(in English): The thesis deals with the novella Midway Upon the Journey of Our Life by Josef Jedlička and with its intertextual relationships. The first part deals with selected texts by Julia Kristeva, Mojmír Otruba, Jiří Homoláč, Daniela Hodrová and Shamma Shahadat, these texts discuss the modern concept of intertextuality. At the end of the first general part, a uniform terminology is established for the forthcoming interpretation. The second part of the thesis deals with interpreting Jedlička's novella, its open character and significant references to literary and extraliterary texts. Special consideration is given to the relationships between the novella and texts by Viktor Shklovsky, Laurence Sterne, Denis Diderot and Dante Alighieri. These intertextual relationships influence the interpretation and meaning of the novella. Detection of these relationships contributes to an open, dynamic character of the novella.

Edition of the Magazine Bonaco

My bachelor thesis focuses on the edition of five surviving issues of the girls' magazine Bonaco, which was made in the Terezín ghetto in 1943-1944. The aim of the thesis is to make the sources accessible not only to the academic community but also to the general public. The transcription of the journal is annotated and all the illustrations that appear in the journal are included in the appendices. The introduction provides information on ghetto culture and the second chapter details the Bonaco magazine itself. In addition, each issue of the magazine has its own chapter.

Tragic Love on the Backround of the WWII

This thesis deals with the topic of unequal tragic love during the Nazi occupation, as elaborated in selected works of Czech and Slovak prose. For this thesis, I selected the works of Jan Otčenášek (Romeo, Juliet and Darkness), Rudolf Jašík (St. Elizabeth's Square), Ludvík Aškenazy (Romeo) and Josef Kadlec (Viola). The works are introduced and analyzed. The confrontation of thematic and compositional parallels and differences in these works of prose are specifically put into focus.

Sports motifs in Bohumil Hrabal's short stories

This thesis focuses on sports motifs in Bohumil Hrabal's short story collections. Its core is Hrabal's collections Perlička na dně and Pábitelé. The thesis examines the concept of sport in literature, the development and depiction of sport motifs in the Czech literary tradition. It then examines in more detail the sports motifs in the individual texts of both collections, points out the differences in the treatment of sport in Hrabal's work and notes the various contexts and roles that sport plays in Hrabal's stories.

Two Approaches to Folk Narratives: Emanuel Horký a Josef Štefan Kubín

The work will deal with the processing of folk tales from Podkrkonoší on the one hand and the processing of folk tales from the Vysočina region (Humpolec, Polná and Havlíčkův Brod regions) on the other hand. It will use the material collected by Josef Štefan Kubín (Lidové povídky z Podkrkonoší) and Emanuel Horký (Z kraje Šimona kouzelníka). The aim will be to confront the two contrasting approaches in terms of language, style and subject matter, but also in terms of a more general approach to folklore.

Motifs of the Holocaust in Ludvík Aškenazy's Works

This bachelor thesis examines three books written by Ludvík Aškenazy (1921- created in the late 1950s and in the beginning of the 1960s: Psí život (1959), Černá bedýnka (1960, 1964) and Vajíčko (1963, revised The thesis deals with motifs related to the war and Nazi persecution of the Jews. Aškenazy had personal texts, such as Černá bedýnka that belonged to the other writers (i.e. Lustig, Otčenášek and later Bělohradská, Fuks, Škvorecký), which reintroduced Jewishness and the Holocaust to the Czech This thesis will analyse function of the narrator in individual texts, author's typical methods - - "uneven love", animals, names in the Pinkas Synagogue -

Non-fiction literature on the concentration camp's experience within the so-called first wave of the war literature

The Dissertation devotes to the literature representation of the czechoslovakian prisoners's life in concentration camps during the second world war. The work analyzes the documentary witnesses, that were published in 1945-1947 and with the date of publishing belong to the so-called first wave of war literature. The introductory part devotes to the place of concentration camps problematic to the historical context, the second part of dissertation define a term the first wave of war literature. The central theme then create following parts. In the third part an author define matter of the concentration camps and create mutual relation between "theme" and "motiv" with respect to the main topic. With the help of primary literature an author create a list of motivic stereotypes, that relate to prisoner's life in the concentration camp. An author defines these motivic stereotypes and completes them with the samples from primary literature. The last part of dissertation analyzes a response of the concentration camp books in the freed political prisoners journal. The analysis is pointed to the critical reflections, reviews and polemics about publishing concentration camps book.

The topic of German's transfer in Czech novels

This paper focuses on literary works in which the expulsion of Czech-Germans from Czechoslovakia after 1945 is the central theme. The works were selected to create a collection which represents the post war development of Czech literature. The aim is to follow the features of a stereotypical portrayal of characters. The boundary between Germans and Czechs is disturbed by the portrayal of characters of mixed-marriage. The problems of the expulsion of Germans, in which they were "only" German continues to be ignored. Furthermore, the stereotypical view of German equals the enemy is disturbed by the fact that in the majority of works German women not only Germans are featured. Individual descriptions of these women within certain aspects follow the stereotype of German equal the enemy. However, there are descriptions of persecution of German women by Czechs. At the same time, changes in the narrator's perspective are followed. This is shown in the tendency not to use an objective impersonal narrator. Over time the use of "ich-narrator" appeared more often and finally a combination of both.
