The work thus focuses on New Town painters from the beginnings of the existence of their guild, through the issuance of the privilege of Emperor Rudolf II. in 1595, by which he granted the Old Town-Lesser Town painter's guild significant privileges, as a result of which the joint development of all Prague painting associations began to take different paths. The thesis also deals with the circumstances leading to the demise of the guild in the 1780s, when the Prague painters' fraternities were abolished by Emperor Joseph II. In addition to the history of the painters' association, the thesis provides an insight into the guild life of New Town painters, which it monitors in individual positions within the guild hierarchy, focuses on the functioning of the association itself, its management, material and written sources, representation of the corporation and individual members, and last but not least, it describes the way of worshiping the patron saint of painters - St. Luke. The Dissemination of Military Theory in the Early Modern Period: Military Manuals Printed in Central Europe in 1550-1650
Andresová, Klára ; Šípek, Richard (advisor) ; Hojda, Zdeněk (referee) ; Prchal, Vítězslav (referee)
The genre of military handbooks, classified as educational literature, has its roots in antiquity. A significant phase of its evolution came with the advent of the printing press, allowing the propagation of such titles via movable types in increasingly large quantities. Authored by experienced soldiers, these books primarily aimed to educate (prospective) officers on the fundamentals of modern warfare. Simultaneously, these often typographically elaborate volumes - supplemented with numerous educational illustrations - could represent a means for their owners to project self-image. In Central Europe, the proliferation of military handbooks began to surge noticeably after 1550, mainly driven by German printing production. This thesis explores the Central European transformation of this genre from the mid-16th to the mid-17th century, that is, until shortly after the end of the Thirty Years' War. The research approach aligns with the cultural history of warfare and the New Military History movement. This school of thought strive to apply methods common in non-military historical research to military issues, and explore military history through underutilized or unexplored sources. The research methodology primarily involves retrospective bibliography, but also other quantitative and qualitative...

Vašek, Jan ; Hojda, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Čornejová, Ivana (referee)
The aim of the study was to cast light on history of central edifice of Malešice manor, until now rather unclear. Inevitably, its story has to begin by the description of the initial purpose of construction at the end of the 17th century, followed by later transformations covering up the former role of the building. A closer look at individual periods of the edifice's history needed to be placed in a context and linked with historical events impacting significantly not only the execution of property rights, but also the physical aspect of the building and connected properties. The development showed, at the beginning, usual characteristics of the nobility administration. However, specific relation between new owner, Charles University, secular faculties respectively, and changing state administration bodies developed by the 18 century. State administration managed to execute successfully their strong influence on decisions concerning as the University real estate, as its metamorphoses motivated by the instantaneous decisions guided by financial interests only, without consideration of potential future impact. This document is therefore focused on this exceptional example of early modern-aged nobility administration, responding to the privileged status of the University and suffocated by state...

The entertainment and behaviour of Italians in the Early Middle Ages through the eyes of the Bohemian cavaliers
