Comparison of Hans Kung and his work Global Ethics with the Civil Religion
Knotek, Daniel ; Hošek, Pavel (advisor) ; Hajko, Dalimír (referee)
This Diploma Thesis deals with two universalistic conceptions, represented by the Swiss Catholic Theologist Hans Küng and his work Global Ethics, and the Civil Religion. In the first part of my text, I bring in the personality of Hans Küng, his work, ideas and the book Global Ethics which received great acclaim on international forum, Churches and society. Küng draws up three basic theses: No world peace without peace among religions. No peace among religions without dialogue between the religions. No dialogue between the religions without accurate knowledge of one another. These theses express the need for a dialogue, being able to formulate viable visions of the future. In the second part of my work, I introduce a less known notion of the Civil Religion with its transformations and development throughout the history. It is a concept exceeding the border of sociology, political science, philosophy and theology, examining the formative processes of the society and its religious reference speech. It penetrates the academic discourse especially in the period between the 1960s and 1980s, as represented e.g. by the American sociologist Robert Bellah. In the third part of my text, I compare both the universalistic conceptions and try to find out where they intersect and in which respect each of them has...
Claim for Truth and the Challenge of Religious Pluralism: State of Discussion in Present-day Christianity
Mrázek, Miloš ; Hošek, Pavel (advisor) ; Štampach, Ivan (referee) ; Vojtíšek, Zdeněk (referee)
The thesis dicusses different responses to the challenge of religious pluralism in Christianity. It focuses on the question of how the present-day Christians respond to this challenge, how they relate to the traditional claim of the unique truth of Divine revelation in Christian teaching, and how they understand the concept of truth itself in this context. The text thus maps different trends and movements in current Christianity and introduces problems concerning the definition of the concept of religious pluralism in religious studies and the issues of the current philosophical discussion on the nature of truth - both in general and in religious discourse in particular. The Rediscovery of Symbol in Louis-Marie Chauvet
Bauerová, Kateřina ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Hošek, Pavel (referee) ; Hušek, Vít (referee)
The main aim of my dissertation is to introduce, analyse, and critically evaluate the notion of symbol of a contemporary French sacramental theologian Louis-Marie Chauvet. He has significantly influenced the Western, especially Roman Catholic scene, but he is almost unknown in the Czech milieu. Chauvet's rehabilitation of a symbolic view of reality brings a possibility to speak about God's presence in a non- ideological way. He also brings a positive evaluation of body and corporality back into theology. In the first part of my work I map out the resources from which Chauvet draws in his notion of symbol. In particular I deal with Heidegger's early philosophy but also with Chauvet's use of psychoanalysis and his critical evaluation of older Thomist sacramental theology. The second part of my work is devoted to Chauvet's own notion of symbol. On the basis of his central works I analyse three topics linked with his approach to symbol: being, language and corporality. In the last part I critically appraise Chauvet's notion especially with respect to his use of Lacan's psychoanalytical theory. For some open questions that come out of this I look for alternatives in three French contemporary female authors. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Spiritual aspects in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books
Široká, Alžběta ; Hošek, Pavel (advisor) ; Balabán, Milan (referee)
This thesis examines possible spiritual aspects in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books. With help of secondary literatury and my own research this thesis seeks to corroborate the idea of embodied Christianity in these books and it also seeks to overcome some Christian's presumption, that Harry Potter is a book leading its readers to occult and practise magic. The thesis presents examples of parallels between Harry Potter and some Christian principles contained in the Bible. The plurality of opinions concerning propriety or impropriety of reading Harry Potter for Christians is described. At the close the thesis deals with the attitude of Czech Christian churches towards this phenomena. Part of the thesis is also an outcome from a questionary concerning people's opinion on spiritual aspects in Harry Potter books. Keywords Harry Potter, christianity, religious debate, magic, death, sacrifice
On the Transplantation of Buddha's Teaching to the West
The Human Nature and Natural Morality in Francis Fukuyama
Mareš, Jan ; Halama, Jindřich (advisor) ; Hošek, Pavel (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on a survey of concepts of human nature at the end of 20th century, specifically in the works of Francis Fukuyama. The introductory part descibes general contemporary situation and background. The main part deals with the formation of different natural aspects of human behavior from the perspective of sociobiology such as cooperation, intelligernce, language and morality the way F. Fukuyama interpretes them. It tries to expound how these aspects were formed during the long evolutionary development. Understanding these mechanisms should help us comprehend why there are natural tendencies to bahave the way we do. It also searches boundaries between human nature and cultural environment. The final part answers some key questions this topic evokes. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
