Kordíková, Marta ; Hlavačka, Milan (advisor) ; Randák, Jan (referee)
Augustin Navrátil This thesis addresses the life and work of Augustin Navrátil (1928-2003), a Roman- -Catholic activist from the Moravian township of Lutopecny near Kroměříž. A. Navrátil has not been subject of a complex publication yet, although he is the author of the largest petition demanding religious - and with that going hand in hand also civic - liberties in socialist Czechoslovakia (1988, 600 000 signatures). Followingly, this is the first attempt to biographically outline the personality and motivations of this farmer, politician (member of the party Lidova strana), man who signed Charta 77 but also a husband and father of nine children. The aim is to cover his life from his birth, over his family background to the beginnings and heights of his social engagement. The text will mainly deal with 22 open letters in which he drew attention to various illegal practices and actions of the Communist power, as well as with the three petitions he authored (1978, 1985 a 1988) and the samizdat (self-published) journal Křesťanské obzory (Christian horizons), which he published with a group of others from June 1988 to July 1990. In contrast to most Czech dissidents, he was never sentenced to a prison term for his activities, but he had to involuntarily undergo repeated psychiatric treatment. He was...
Czechs at world's fairs
Ulmanová, Kristýna ; Hlavačka, Milan (referee) ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (referee)
Kristýna Ulmanová: Czechs at World's Fairs Annotation and key words: In the introduction, the thesis author provides a typology of Czech travelers who visited one of the world exhibitions in the second half of the nineteenth century. Then the work focuses this typology on two types of travelers, namely the type of traveler-tourist and the type of traveler-scholar. The type of traveler-tourists is first defined by the contemporary understanding of the concept of "tourist." Then the conditions in which Czech tourists traveled to the World's Fairs are described, where they were housed and how they ate. Subsequently, the author analyzes the reasons why the Czech traveler-tourist traveled to the exhibition, what were his expectations, and whether those expectations were realistic. The work also captures the emerging phenomenon of mass trips abroad. Part of the work also deals with cultural stereotypes and self-reflection of Czech tourists, provoked by contact with other countries and their inhabitants. The traveler- scholar is characterized by comparison with the traveler-tourist. Furthermore, the author pays attention to international congresses, which were an integral part of the World's Fairs and in which the traveler-scholar often participated. The example of Unity of the Encouragement of Industry in Bohemia...
Krucemburk and the life of Skrivan-Binko's tanner family 1623-1948
Slavík, Jiří ; Velek, Luboš (referee) ; Hlavačka, Milan (referee)
The presented thesis [expanded diploma work] is introducing historical sonde into the daily life and also the interesting fates of the ancient Skrivan - Binko's tanner family. The family lived in eastern Bohemian small market - town Krucemburk on Bohemian - Moravian Uplands. We happen to be witnesses of gradual transformation of the country craft shop and manufactory business into the modern industrial enterprise during the space of time dated from the first half of the 17th century till the communism taking up period when family trade was completely nationalized [1948]. Simultaneously the reader is acquainted with the individual significant personalities of the tanner family. Through the passed centuries they had been excellent as far as the community management control, enlightenment, politics, culture and visual arts are concerned. The special attention is dedicated to the up to now neglected subjects - urban planning and building development of the small town, changes of the country landscape, material culture.
The memory places of the battle of Kulm
Kessler, Vojtěch ; Hlavačka, Milan (advisor) ; Randák, Jan (referee)
In current czech historiography the concept incurred from french historians (such as Pierre Nora), such as the concept of places of memory, is hardly used. As an example we can see the broad edition of Deutsche Erinnerungsorte, which tries to understand and describe important "moments" of the history of German nation in an entirely new way. The German authors include a wide variety of phenomenons such as abstract functionally-symbolic products of intelect as well as raw material monuments into these "pockets of hibernation" into which the society stores and delegates their cultural memory in order to prevent them from perishing. The neighbourhood of the Ústí nad Labem city, in the direction to the Czech- Saxon border, is covered with a number of such stone monuments. These memorials, calling to the battles of 1813, silently store a memory, which was stored in them in a feeling of patriotic flame_and the most deep love for the inherited Hapsburg home, furnished for years by a friendship with the German Brethren and the offspring of the companion-in-arms in the epoch of Befreiungskriege, completedly silented after the 1945, when the departure of German inhabitants from the border region takes away as well the memories that the memorials represented. In my work I focused on the processes, by which a purely...
