Carnival in Prague during the invasion of an army of bishop of Passau
Korec, Vojtěch ; Koldinská, Marie (advisor) ; Hlaváček, Petr (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the circumstances of mob riots in Prague taking place during the invasion of the army of the bishop of Passau in 1611 in the context of a carnival time. As a consequence of the invasion of Prague by the Passau army, the furious mobs attacked and plundered monasteries and murdered monks. The contemporary observers already then noticed some elements of carnival festivities in the riots. The thesis tries to explain the presence of these elements in the mob riots in Prague and explores the connection between the rioters' behaviour and the ongoing carnival time. In addition, the thesis tries to establish what role rumours, fear and tension played in the events. Keywords Carnival, the invasion of an army of bishop of Passau, fear in early modern Europe, rumour, Prague, tension
The phenomenon of the Franciscan monastery in the medieval society.
Svobodová, Jana ; Bláhová, Marie (advisor) ; Hlaváček, Petr (referee) ; Blechová, Lenka (referee)
The dissertation presents an edition of the medieval Latin chronicle of Eberhard Ablauff de Rheno. It is a previously unprocessed source. The chronicle is part of the Cheb Codex from the provenance of the Franciscans of the Bohemian-Moravian-Silesian vicariate. Today it is stored in the National Library. The Ablauff Chronicle records events concerning the Franciscans from 1451 to 1528, when Ablauff probably died. The chronicle is set in the broader context of late medieval Franciscan historiography produced in the Central European geographical area. The dissertation includes a codicological and paleographical analysis of the chronicle. On the basis of the editorially accessible text of the Ablauff Chronicle, it has been possible to discuss in a separate chapter the figure of the chronicler Eberhard Ablauff de Rheno, whose life can be imagined from inscriptions in his copied and written texts or from notes in the books he read. The edition of the Chronicle is supplemented by an overview of the Franciscan friars mentioned in the so-called Registrum fratrum. The edited chronicle can serve as a basic source for the religious and ecclesiastical history of our territory. Ablauff captured the continuity of the development of the Bohemian-Moravian-Silesian vicariate, where provincial chapters were...
The Foundation of the Jesuit Mission in China and the Contribution of Mattei Ricci (1552-1610)
Bartošová, Hedvika ; Obuchová, Ľubica (advisor) ; Hlaváček, Petr (referee)
Missions are an important part of church history. With the spreading of the Christian faith goes the question: how far can one go to accommodate the gospel to the native countries and their cultures? Can this faith, with its Graeco-Roman origins, be accepted by people in different, non-European countries, without any changes? The first missionaries who sailed overseas to the Far East also had to handle this question.

Vantová, Alena ; Morée, Pieter Cornelis Adrianus (advisor) ; Halama, Jindřich (referee) ; Hlaváček, Petr (referee)
The dissertation First Century of the Renewed Moravian Church in Bohemia (1862 - 1968) focuses on the question of what problems and difficulties the church encountered in that era. The church started working in the Czech lands again in 1862, when it officially supported travelling preachers to care for believers. The preachers organized Bible studies in small groups. Their activity was limited because the church was not authorized by the government. That changed in 1880. The mission was started, then Czech and German congregations began to emerge. After the creation of the Czechoslovak Republic, the congregations were influenced by transfer movement. The Czech congregations demanded independence, but the German congregations were against it. After many negotiations, Czech and German congregations split up and administered their affairs independ- ently. During World War II, most Czech preachers joined the resistance movement. Their activity provoked criticism when the war was over. After the expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia, some congregations ceased to exist. A great turning point happened in 1949, when church laws were passed, which set out for activity of churches. The Czech congregations gained the status of an in- dependent province and in 1967 a general synod was held in Potštejn. The...
