Energy and environmental assessment of buildings
Kubínek, Tomáš ; Baroň, Alexandr (referee) ; Hirš, Jiří (advisor)
The aim of this thesis is to give a general idea of energy; what it is, how it is created (rather transformed), how it is distributed and used in many of its forms. In detail it describes how buildings are evaluated in terms of energy consumption, how can we lower this consumption and how it affects the environment. Part A, theory, gives a general idea of the theory surounding transformations, losses and uses of energy. It describes processes of assessment of buildings. Part B, calculation methods, give an idea how current CZ/EU regulations describe optimal calculation methods. These methods include: energetic, enviromental and economic evaluation of buildings or energy-saving measures. Part C, project, describes an exact measuring in Elementary School Svážná-Brno. It describes the means of obtaining information. Includes graphically processed monthly energy consumptions. It also includes list of used sensors (measuring air temperature, humidity and surface temperatures), schemes of sensors placements, schemes of building and technical systems. The main part of this project are graphs of measured data made in EXCEL with descriptions.
Using Low Temperature Energy Sources for Ventilation Systems in Residential Buildings
Adam, Pavel ; Košičanová,, Danica (referee) ; Horák, Petr (referee) ; Kabrhel,, Michal (referee) ; Hirš, Jiří (advisor)
The theoretical part deals with three “ventilation systems” (VS). The first VS uses a ground/well temperature potential as a energy source for preheating or cooling fresh ventilation air. It was found out that energy savings can be achieved. In the winter, when the air flow volume was considered 150 m3/hr and ground temperature 4 and 8 ° C, the energy savings are in the range of 227-359 kWh. The electricity increase is 6 kWh of energy. In the summer, the energy savings are 17 to 38 kWh, with the electricity increase 8 kWh of energy. The second VS, i.e. system combining ventilation a solar systems, the calculation was carried out in TRNSYS computer program for two objects - a “low-energy house” (LEH) and “two-floor house” (TFH) - and 6 different solar systems modifications. The energy gains at the LEH for the 3 solar modif. are 49, 59 and 46 kWh per year (yearly consumption for heating is 2622 kWh). The energy gains at the TFH for the 3 solar modif. are 86, 134 and 129 kWh (yearly consumption for the heating is 8988 kWh). The third VS is a residential VS with liquid circuit with two compact “heat exchangers” (HE) at the inlet and outlet air. The results shows (compared to VS without heat recovery) that with the air flow volume 150 m3/h the energy savings in the winter are 1761-3148 kWh (16-hour and 24-hour operation mode). The electr. increase is 173 to 262 kWh of energy. In the exp. research the measuring section for the HE measuring was built. Then the conventional materials HE was measured. Is was found out that the selected HE is suitable for installation of the theoretically proposed systems. Its efficiency is in the range 58 - 82 % (with the air flow volume 570-55 m3/h). Measuring section was optimized and measured various hollow fibre HEs. Their efficiency are in the range 38-63 % (with the air flow volume 300-900 m3/h). Results of CO2 measurements shows that CO2 concentration is close to the value of 5000 ppm. It is much higher than max. allowed value 1200

The work deals with the impact assessment of selected parameters of residential buildings on their energy performance. Within the application of the theory of statistics database of selected residential buildings is analyzed in terms of different features that characterize it. In particular, the thermal insulating properties and individual sub-items in the energy balance are analyzed. Then the measured rate dependence of selected parameters affecting energy performance is examined using correlation and regression analysis. The results are applied in the development of computational tools for evaluating energy flows in the building.
Analysis of boundary conditions of ground heat exchangers
Vďaka týmto numerickým štúdiám a výsledkom dynamických tepelných modelov, každá prípadová štúdia obsahuje rozloženie teplôt v zemine, výstupné teploty z výmenníka a vlastný čiastočný záver.
Nearly Zero-Energy Building Retrofitting: Case Study of a Conventional Single-Family House in Denmark
Wawerka, Robert ; Skotnicová,, Iveta (referee) ; Kalousek, Miloš (referee) ; Petráš,, Dušan (referee) ; Hirš, Jiří (advisor)
This doctoral thesis proposes a new method of energy retrofitting of existing residential buildings towards nearly zero-energy status. The topic of energy retrofitting of existing buildings is widely discussed and lamented within the European Union and the Member states and is enshrined in the Directive 2010/31/EU. This research is in line with the European Union strategy Europe 2020 which sets targets for climate change and energy sustainability. The thesis describes the study of building energy performance of a pilot energy retrofitted residential building towards nearly zero-energy where progressive design technologies, such as energy modelling, monitoring, building optimisation and verification were used. This case study helped to formulate the recommendations on the effectiveness of various passive and active design methods together with renewable energy systems and after the extensive research it contributes to model and verify the future expectation and energy efficiency requirements of the residential market.
Solar hot water storage tank
Vyhlídalová, Karolína ; Vranayová,, Zuzana (referee) ; Hirš, Jiří (referee) ; Horák, Petr (advisor)
The solar hot water storage tank is off great importance in the solar collector array. It allows transformed energy accumulation thus deals with the inconsistency between supply and demand. The suitable design of the storage tank can improve system efficiency. The storage capacity represents the balance between the amount of stored hot water and the tank's heat losses. The design of the storage capacity is based on three hypotheses. The coverage of hot water demand by solar energy, the ratio between storage capacity and solar thermal collector area and the prediction that the storage capacity corresponds to one- to twofold hot water demand. The purpose of this thesis is to share an understanding of the solar storage tanks design and to improve the design through numerical simulation, experimentations and general calculations. It also focuses on the confirmation of the used hypotheses and determination of the best way to design the solar storage tank for general practice and further potential discussions. The simulation model has three variables – the storage capacity, collector area and the number of occupants. The intent is to find the interdependence of these three variables. The purpose of the simulations is to modify the design of the solar tank based on the mutual influence of studied parameters. The modifications are performed based on the users' needs.
