The element of individual choice in penzion reform : cases of Argentina and Chile

This paper deals with a specific reform of a defined-benefit pay-as-you-go pension system. Namely, it is the one that completely or partially replaces the old system, with a fully funded defined contribution component. Its aim is to examine the element of individual choice embodied in the reform. Pension system participants face a choice of whether to switch to the new system or remain participants of the old one. In theoretical part of the paper, we show how reforms can be classified according to how "right to choice" is granted and denied to various groups of pension system participants. Replacing pay-as-you-go pension system with a fully funded component entails implicit social security debt of the old system turning explicit. Another objective of this paper is thus to match possible distributions of "right to choice" with corresponding kind of social security debt that turns explicit. The last objective is to state the individual decision making problem of a worker facing the reform. There are two major decisions to be made. First, the worker is to select the optimal switching strategy (switch or not to switch). Second, the worker can optimize his/her contribution path throughout productive life. Plausible Effects of the Adoption of the Euro on the Czech economy: Comparison with the case of the Slovac Republic

This master thesis deals with the euro adoption in the Czech Republic, comparing the possible effects of the euro adoption on the Czech economy and consequences of currency changeover after the Slovak Republic joined the eurozone in 2009. After introducing the theoretical concepts inevitable for the euro adoption, the process of preparation for the currency changeover in the Slovak Republic and the currency changeover itself will be described. Subsequently, the work focuses on the conditions which the Czech government has already met in the process of preparation for the euro adoption and which still need to be fulfilled. In addition, the Czech Republic's economic alignment with euro area countries is analyzed, especially focusing on particular areas. A significant part of this work deals with the comparison of positive and negative effects of the euro adoption in the Slovak Republic with possible impacts of euro on the Czech Republic. In the end, the emphasis is put on the strength of the Czech economy to deal with the possible future financial crisis.

The comparison of the Czech pension system before reforms made in 2010-2013 and aftter it

The present thesis focuses on the comparison of the Czech pension system before 2010 with the one after the changes made in 2010-2013. The parameters of the first pillar which changed in the mentioned period are analysed. The partial adjustments of the first pillar are viewed by prism of the following criteria: budget accountability, quality of life, solidarity, contributory principles, participation and the persistence of the chosen solution in the time. Furthermore the thesis focuses on the effects induced by the implementation of the second pillar. And last but not least is attention paid to the chosen components of the third pillar, which under went changes in 2010-2013 years. Important part of the thesis is a research conducted by online questionnaire, which aimed to find out what knowledge about the pension system and its changes in 2010-2013, do the citizens have. Theoretical bases includes the theory of path dependency, the theory of institutionalism, the welfare state theory and the criterion anchoring. The present thesis applies the method of analysis of secondary data and the method of comparative analysis. To obtain secondary data, methods of document and data record searching are used. The Retirement Age - the development and determinats influence over its changes

The diploma thesis generally focuses on pension systems, specifically on the institution of retirement age. This institution is very important for the old-age pension system and its stability. Retirement age is an important determinant of every pension system. Demographic and economic state of society depends, among other things, on age at which citizens can retire, it's associated with standard of living of state residents. It also affects job opportunities. Since its inception the retirement age in the Czech Republic has gone through many modifications. Based on the theory of actor-centered institutionalism, the diploma thesis addresses the determinants that influenced the development of retirement age institute, including its institutional framework and actors involved in its changes. It also deals with its developmental stages. Comparison with the development in Slovakia (in some parts of diploma thesis only) will be enriched the conceptual, empirical as well as methodological realm of the thesis. Czech and Slovak Republics have shared history but the pension systems of both countries have considerably diverged. Crisis of czech welfare state, its reform and impact on changing quality of life of people of retirement age

The author valorizes also his practical experiences of a left-oriented politician and first results from sociological research has set an objective to check two hypotheses: 1) that in the conditions of global capitalism development to save and fully revitalize the social state in his conception of a factor that is not only mitigating urgent social inequalities, but also raise the society and cultivates the human being, 2) that in the process of capitalist crises and the crises of a social state, senior citizens living from their pensions belong to the most threatened social groups. Methodologically the author claims to belong to modern Marxism and critically demarcate himself both from stalinism as well as from the recent official ideology, above all neoliberalism. The author refuses also the attempts to equate Marxism and the policy of KSČM to the ideology of the past governing class of controlling apparatus and comprehend the KSČM as a party disguised as Stalinist, anti human and non-democratic and in agreement with the program of this party that it represent in the Parliament of Czech Republic belongs to the self- managed socialism as a long-term objective of a societal transformation. Reform of the systems of retirement pension in the founder states of European Union

The thesis deals with the pension systems in Germany, France and Italy. Its main subject is a description of the reforms of these systems during past twenty years - the description of the reasons to reform, of the reforms themselves and of the outlook for the future. In addition, the thesis deals with the indexation procedures in these countries and examines the relevance of using the consumer price index for these purposes. The thesis consists of three main sections. The first section briefly describes current pension systems in given countries. The second part describes the reasons leading to the necessity of reforms - increasing financial demands of these systems due to i.a. the demographic trends and the labor market developments. It also lists main components of the reforms during past twenty years, whose main objective was the financial consolidation and the move towards multi-pillar systems. The evaluation of the persistent problems and of the necessity to continue with reforms is also included. The third section describes the options for the pension indexation and the indexation procedures in given countries. How Migration of Citizens of Selected EU Countries Affects the Level of Their Pension

This bachelors thesis focuses on the analysis of pension systems in four countries of the European union, namely Germany, Great Britain, Slovak republic and Poland. There is mentioned the basic classification of pension schemes in the first part of the thesis. Next part deals with the description of the pension systems in the four chosen countries. The last part of the thesis describes the case of person in decision making process whether to migrate from one of these countries to another one due to higher financial evaluation and pension benefits, or not.
