Biological and social predictors and correlates of human morality
Kopecký, Robin ; Flegr, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Špinka, Marek (referee) ; Houdek, Petr (referee)
In this dissertation, we delve into the multifaceted domains of biological and social factors influencing human morality. The connecting element of this collection of four studies is both an interest in human morality as a traditional philosophical topic and the use of methods from empirical sciences, particularly biology, behavioural, and cognitive sciences. The first study focuses on the moral algorithms in autonomous vehicles. We examined moral preferences regarding the choice between software types that differ in their built-in algorithms for dealing with lethal collisions. These are categorized into three specific types: selfish, altruistic, and conservative. Respondents exhibited a preference for the altruistic strategy, which is reinforced when signalled to others. The altruistic preference is the most pronounced when it applies to everybody else, weaker when it reflects only a personal choice, and the weakest when choosing for one's own child. We conclude that making a choice public significantly sways individuals towards a more socially beneficial solution. The second study investigates the relationship between parasite Toxoplasma gondii infection and its subsequent impact on human political beliefs and values. Infected participants exhibited a tendency towards heightened tribalism and...

The first part of the bachelor thesis will consist of the introduction of advertising overall (but mainly digital advertising) and the different types of advertising presented on social media shared through influencers' channels. This master's thesis deals with the challenges of the school meal system in the Czech Republic within the context of strategic communication. It illuminates the current issues of the school meal system, situating them within the context of strategic communication and relevant theoretical concepts. Utilizing quantitative analysis methods, the thesis explores the attitudes of more than 10,000 representative respondents, comprising both parents and diners, towards the school meal system. The principal findings suggest a strong positive correlation between the perceived satisfaction of diners and the overall satisfaction of parents with the school meal system. Furthermore, there is a significant influence of the satisfaction with the school canteen representatives' communication on the overall satisfaction of parents. Conversely, factors such as household income or parents' understanding of the rules governing the school meal system did not have as significant an impact on their satisfaction as initially expected. The concluding sections of the thesis formulate strategic recommendations aimed at improving parents' satisfaction with the school meal system and the overall condition of the system. The bachelor thesis entitled The Potential of Smell-O-Vision Technology in olfactory marketing focuses on the use of a digital aroma device in olfactory marketing. The thesis is divided into several parts. The theoretical part covers olfactory marketing and its use. It describes its function and briefly its history. The second chapter introduces the Smell-O-Vision product and its development. The next chapter follows it with the technology available today. This section concludes with a legislative interpretation and possible risks of the device. The practical part of the thesis deals with the influence of scents on purchase motivation. Data is collected through a questionnaire survey combined with a field experiment that simulates the Smell-O-Vision device and tries to answer whether this device affects buying behavior. However, the experiment does not support this hypothesis and therefore the design of the experiment, its variables, and the proposal for future investigation are discussed below. The last chapter explores the practical application of the Smell-O-Vision device. It discusses the olfactory campaigns that have already taken place and their further potential extension to the public and private sectors.
