New town hall for the district Brno-North

The purpouse of this thesis was finding the way to design new city hall of district Brno - Sever. It builds on a urban study from previous semesters. I have found the pattern for my concept in ancient public proto-democratic structures - agoras, phorums. By creating some sort of a district with various (not only city hall) programmes, we gain a diversified, living and vibrant public spaces, outdoors as well as indoors.

LABORARTORY BRNO

The concept: gallery ~ temple. Powerful corner mass, smooth, absent perforation, it pushes viewer to thinking about human scale and scale of a structure. The effect is strenghtened by it's concrete surface with noble texture. In adition, the object logially conceals exisitng development. Insides of the building protects the visitor from noisy streets and on a small area, they offer generous, yet subtle spaces of exhbition (1500m2). Two, more rational looking, masses, at sides of the main one, match, with their height and roof profile, surrounding buildings. These two contains service and administration areas on one hand and comercial space, café and workshops on the other.

Steel structure of a hall

The bachelor thesis is about designing two-aisle hall bearing structure. The span of each aisle is 30m and 24m. Length of hall is 60m. The main bearing components are truss girder and transversal restrained columns. Lenght of purlins is 12m. Purlins are strut-frame. The structure is designed for the dictrict of Jihlava.

Water chiller for ceiling cooling system

The topic of this diploma thesis is to design water chiller for ceiling cooling system. The thesis is divided into four main parts. The first part deals with the theoretical description of emitting cooling systems. The following part focuses on the theory of refrigerating systems and describes especially the thermal cycle and refrigerants which are used in cooling systems. In the third chapter refrigerating equipment are described. Compressor, heat exchangers and expansion valves belong to the main parts of refrigerating systems. The final chapter is devoted to the draft and selection of components of the refrigerating system.

Hybrid ventilation in buildings

This bachelor thesis deals with hybrid ventilation in buildings. The first part of the thesis discusses ventilation, the classification of ventilation and then natural and mechanical ventilation are summarized. The second part focuses on hybrid ventilation. Here the classification of hybrid ventilation, 2 examples of hybrid ventilation in non-residential premises and 4 hybrid ventilation systems for 4 climate zones are mentioned.

The influence of prenatal hormones on the emergence and development of homosexual orientation in women with congenital adrenal hyperplasia.

Female homosexuality is a complex phenomenon, and therefore, the causes of the emergence of female homosexuality are the subject of extensive debates. There are various theories about the origin of female homosexuality, and one of them is the neurohormonal theory. The neurohormonal theory assumes that the organizational effects of prenatal hormones in the early stages of development influence sexual orientation. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is a condition in which affected women are exposed to high levels of prenatal hormones. In women with CAH, a higher frequency of homosexual and bisexual orientation is observed compared to the general population. The effects of prenatal hormones can explain this. However, most women with CAH are still heterosexual, and there is also a significant number of lesbian and bisexual women who do not have any disorder. This also suggests that hormones are certainly not the sole factor contributing to the development of homosexual orientation. Preferences for markers of health status in humans

Several evolutionary hypotheses suggest that different organisms have evolved systematic preferences for markers of mate health. These markers may provide clues to an individual's immunocompetence, current health status, and health history. Correct recognition of good health helps to select a quality partner who can offer advantages such as good genetic qualities that can be passed on to offspring, can participate more effectively in the care of offspring, and thus does not put the individual at risk of infection. Awareness of these markers may be important not only in mate choice but also in other social interactions in which it is important mainly to correctly estimate current health and possibly avoid interaction with an infectious individual. Preference for markers of health in humans may be based, for example, on visual cues in the face, such as color, sexual dimorphism, skin texture, or an assessment of overall stature. Markers may also be olfactory, where an unattractive odor may indicate the presence of a potential disease. Last but not least, there are acoustic markers. Personality differences in individuals of various sexual orientations

The previous research identified a range of personality differences between men and women of various sexual orientations. Non-heterosexual individuals systematically show higher gender nonconformity and greater openness to experience than heterosexual individuals. Non-heterosexual men also show higher levels of neuroticism compared to heterosexual men. The main aim of this study is to replicate previous findings regarding personality differences. The study further aims to determine whether some of the observed differences in personality factors might be explained by differences in gender nonconformity among individuals of various sexual orientations. Via an online survey, a short version of the Big Five Inventory (BFI-10) and a number of scales measuring gender nonconformity were administered to men (N = 3,418) and women (N = 4,690). In total, 232 individuals identified as asexual, 1,814 as bisexual, 3,024 as heterosexual, 2,468 as homosexual, and 570 as pansexual. Our results demonstrate higher gender nonconformity among non-heterosexual men and women, higher neuroticism among non-heterosexual men, and greater openness to experience among bisexual men and women compared to heterosexual individuals. Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy: An evolutionary perspective

The symptoms of nausea and vomiting are experienced by a majority of women during their pregnancy. Symptoms range from mild to severe, but even mild symptoms are connected with adverse effects on women's everyday life. Despite its significance, the aetiology of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP) is not fully understood. The first part of this thesis briefly summarises what is known about the predictors and mechanisms of NVP, including hormonal influences, pregnancy-related, demographic, lifestyle and psychosocial factors. Furthermore, this part focuses on NVP from an evolutionary perspective that, compared to the generally negative view, recognises that NVP has some positive effects on pregnancy outcomes. Different adaptive hypotheses of NVP are described, such as the maternal and embryo protection hypothesis and the compensatory growth hypothesis. The second part consists of five studies focusing on NVP and related topics. The first study focused on dietary and psychosocial correlates of NVP and found a relationship between the level of NVP symptoms and the consumption of milk products and alcohol and a relationship between NVP and stress, anxiety, fatigue and perceived partner support. Olfaction-mediated behavioural defence mechanisms in humans

This thesis consists of two parts. The first part introduces the importance of behavioural defence mechanisms, specifically the behavioural immune system and mainly in humans. I review current knowledge regarding behavioural defence mediated by odour cues. Although behavioural defence mechanisms are important for all individuals who live in social groups, I focus on mate choice, because that is the context in which olfaction-mediated behavioural defence is studied the most. Subsequently, the importance of olfaction is demonstrated using the example of self-inspection and I discuss how the behavioural immune system may be intertwined with this relatively understudied behaviour. Finally, last chapter deals with associations between olfaction and other modalities that play a role in the detection of cues which help select a healthy and immunocompetent partner. In the second part of the thesis, I present nine papers: three reviews and six empirical studies. The review papers summarise the functioning of the behavioural immune system, olfaction- mediated pathogen avoidance in mammals, and the merely weak association between attractiveness ratings based on different modalities.
