Acting in Animation
Jarošová, Marie ; HANČIL, Jan (advisor) ; MUSILOVÁ, Martina (referee)
The master's thesis Acting in Animation reflects the author's experience, gained by combining studies of animation and of authorial acting. Her goal is to explore and propose what should be included in the theory of acting in animation. She then seeks general guidelines which animators and authors of animated films can apply in their work. Can we call an animator "actor"? What general principles can we observe in the dramatic expression of animated characters? Who is an authorial animator?
My ways to authorial acting
Chrostková, Barbora ; HANČIL, Jan (advisor) ; RUT, Přemysl (referee)
This work describes author's ways to authorial acting in connection with her studies at the Department of Authorial Creativity and Pedagogy. The first part deals with the notions of authorial theatre and authorial acting in the context of Czech and international theatre. The second part deals with reflexion and analysis of author's experience in the field of authorial acting. In individual chapters of this part the author describes how her approach to authorial theatre and her stage personality have developed through study, author's presentations and experience with other areas of theatre. As an outcome of this work the author formulates her principles of authorial acting which are based on the notion of authorial acting as an open playing, creative acting and personal development.
Authenticity in the media World
Malaníková, Hana ; JIRÁK, Jan (advisor) ; HANČIL, Jan (referee)
The subject of my doctoral thesis is the phenomenon of the authenticity of people?s, specifically TV hosts?, public appearances in the media. The chief impetus, and the field of study itself, was my own experience of working at Czech Television for a year and a half and the necessity of placing that experience in the context of my theatre and teaching work.In the interest of preserving the most authentic possible testimony, the text is written in a narrative style with an emphasis on the subjective view of the author. In the introduction I set out the starting points from which I will explore authenticity in front of the television camera, along with the personal and social context of the phenomenon being studied. I describe the "rules of the game", i.e., the structure and concept of the text. Later I focus on the most significant contemporary views of authenticity, from the ideas of Jean-Jacques Rousseau to the theories of the social construction of reality of Peter Berger and Thomas Luckmann. From social scientific theories, I move on to the authenticity of actors on stage and an analysis of the discipline of Acting with the Inner Partner as a specific case of authentic existence in a public situation. In the third chapter I compare the theory and practice of television broadcasting from the perspective of an actor attempting to perform authentically in the role of TV host. In conclusion, I compare my original hypotheses with the conclusions I reached on my journey from the stage to the television camera and set out their potential significance for the study of authorial acting and authorial creativity.

Relation between dramatic text and inscenation
Kryzová, Lucie ; ULLRICHOVÁ, Daria (advisor) ; HANČIL, Jan (referee)
Lucie Kryzová in her thesis addresses the issue of the relation between dramatic text and inscenation. The work is divided into two parts ? theoretical and practical. Firstly, used terminology is defined in the theoretical part. The author deals with crucial theories of Czech theater science (Jiří Veltruský and Otakar Zich?s work). Subsequently, she explores when a controversial relation between dramatic text and scenic piece is created, addresses the directors? apriorism and investigates the question of stylization of visualized theater. The second part has rather personal touch as it deals with author?s personal experience. Lucie tries to apply the findings from the theoretical part in her own work. She describes six semesters of her undergraduate studies of Directory-Dramaturgy.
Ivan Vyskočil and his Pedagogics
Petelíková, Eva ; ČUNDERLE, Michal (advisor) ; HANČIL, Jan (referee)
In this thesis I try to couple my own experience gained through contact with prof. Ivan Vyskočil's pedagogy with the theoretical points of view concerning with an audience reception. My thesis consists of two parts. First part is dedicated to a phenomenon of spectatorship. I focus mainly on the ontological principle of theatre production and on the feedback in the relationship between a spectator and an actor related to that principle. My work is based on the thesis of Otakar Zich, Eduard Bullough, Jaroslav Etlík, Max Herrmann and notably Erika Fischer-Lichte. I mention the physiological basis of perception relating to the so-called mirror neurons. I attempt to contextualize the theatretheoretical and the neuroscientific view on a reception as a psycho-physical experience. In the second part of my thesis I concentrate on the conception of study developed by prof. Ivan Vyskočil (who is a founder of the Department of Authorial Creativity and Pedagogy at The Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague) that is grounded in a cultivation of psychosomatic fitness and in a training of self-reflecting creators-actors, who are spectators as well. At the end of my thesis I try to highlight a connection between a cultivation of psychosomatic fitness itself through the study of acting at the Department of Authorial Creativity and Pedagogy and a development of certain audience competence that is closely related to a quality of aesthetical experience and its reflection and even to the work of theatrical critic as well, which is one of goals of the study at the Departement of Theory and Criticism at DAMU.
Johnny´s journey: Observation of a young disciple of acting
Večeřa, Jan ; HANČIL, Jan (advisor) ; RUT, Přemysl (referee)
In my thesis, I deal with the acting discipline in the context of what I have learnt during my studies at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (The Department of Authorial Creativity and Pedagogy) and in the context of what I have learnt during my life in general. Thus, the work is, in many instances, a personal confession on the theme of acting rather than an academic or scientific paper. Each chapter is opened with a new theme which I attempt to analyse and explore from the adept of acting point of view. The themes I touch upon are, among others: the personality of the actor, his authenticity, spontaneity, his acting self-consciousness etc. The language of the analysis is my own and the results are compared with existing theories. The main theme of my thesis could be defined as interconnection of the human and the actor´s existence, in other words, the relationship of the actor with life-his own and the life of people around him. I am searching for a relationship between life and acting and I attempt to relate both in some context. When exploring the themes, I refer to my experience and memories from childhood (and memories of others as well), growing up, adulthood, my studies etc. In some sections, I reflect upon my acting experience and I relate them to particular performances or roles.
Acting as Intention Process
Švestková, Marie ; TICHÝ, Zdeněk (advisor) ; HANČIL, Jan (referee)
What have an influence on communication between actor and viewer (from the actor´s point of view)? This work does not have an ambition to fulfill this topic. It has intentionally intuitive going. Main inspiration for it was my own self-centeredness and lack of author´s courage. Another inspiration - I and Thou from Martin Buber ? was replaced by Postdramatic theatre from Hans-Thies Lehmann in closing stage.
