Community housing. A Case study of the community project Bydlinská zahrádka

This master's thesis looks into sociological perspectives on shared housing, or cohousing, and it is based on a case study of a project in Těšíkovská bydlina. The thesis picks up on the sociological studies of the community, which narrow down the influence of communities, and neighborly relations on the formation of shared housing. The thesis also describes various models of living together and provides specific examples of cohosing projects in various European countries. The second part of the thesis palces focus on the Bydlinská zahrádka project itself, where it employs the techniques of semi-structured interviews, narration and observation for a qualitiative study of the community. Drawing on the data garnered in this research, this work criticizes Tönnies' concepts of Gemeinshaft and Gesselschaft and further places the principles of shared living in our country in comparison with modern European trends. The work thus brings out a unique perspective on the phenomenom of cohousing in the Czech context and contributes to the discussion of why this way of living finds such a small response the Czech Republic.

No Grain, No Gain: Vegan Athletes' Self-Perception of Corporeality

This thesis deals with the corporeality of vegan athletes. It aims to clarify how the members of a specific vegan athlete community perceive their corporeality. It also describes the corporeality shaping process and how the process is affected by the community and by the shared body practices - mainly vegan diet and sports activities. The main concepts concerning this issue are habitus, embodiment, and the mindful body. This thesis's key ideas derive from Merleau-Ponty's views on corporeality, Csordas' embodiment, and Scheper-Hughes's and Lock's mindful body, which provided an analytical framework for this research. The research highlighted the importance of a strong community, which vegan athletes build. They can then act on the bodies of the community members and thus make bodies presenting veganism as sufficient. It is a sport that plays a crucial role in this, as it keeps bodies healthy and makes them strong. Sport thus functions as a defense for their practices, which are in the community's eyes the right way of living and respond to the current environmental crisis and immoral abuse of animals. The End of Writer's Career: Urban Folklore Which Breaks the Law

Graffiti is a game in which heroic courage and great tension are applied. It is an unusual and risky activity beyond the law, associated with dangerous and illegal intrusion into the secured areas of the underground metro system or climbing the roofs of buildings and high walls. All this means for the writer to write his name on the wall and reap the recognition of his colleagues from the subculture for it. The work looks at graffiti from the perspective of their representatives. Its aim is to answer the question whether the writer's motives to remain in the graffiti subculture change over time, how the writers perceive the sanctions of their surroundings, and whether the sanctions of the institutions affect the end of the writer's career. Data collection will take place through semi-structured interviews with respondents from the graffiti environment, participatory observation and qualitative content analysis of printed materials and websites, used for the exchange of information, especially between active members of the subculture. Purity and Danger: A View to Maintanance of the Ritual Purity in the Contemporary Roma Household

The diploma thesis: "Purity and Danger: The Perspective of Compliance with Ritual Purity in the Contemporary Roma House" deals with the boundary definitions of Roma groups and identities. This examination takes place via the narration of the Roma themselves and by observing the ritual practices in Roma households. The main tool that the Roma use in determining their group boundaries is the concept of cleanliness and impurity. It appears both in their narratives and in their ritual practice. This thesis describes the definition of a specific group of Roma women against many other groups of Roma and against the majority society. By doing so, we can examine their values, and the importance of the concept of purity in their lives and at the same time where their concept of purity comes from and how they work with it every day. Furthermore, it describes the environment, habits and clothes worn by women and their children, their hobbies and the way of their everyday life. Another important topic emerging at work is what roles men and women have in their group, and how the duties, or the spaces associated with their daily lives, are shared between the sexes. Tato bakalářská práce je věnována výzkumu proměn irského tance v České republice. Výzkum byl prováděn kvalitativními metodami prostřednictvím zúčastněných pozorování, hloubkových polostrukturovaných rozhovorů a rešerší. Informátoři a informátorky výzkumu jsou tanečníci a tanečnice irského tance, jenž se v tomto oboru pohybují alespoň posledních pět let. Výzkumný terén pak představují irsky orientované události především v Brně a Praze konané v října 2018 do listopadu 2019. Social life of waste in the town of Police nad Metují

This bachelor thesis studies on the social life of waste in the town of Police nad Metují. The main theoretical source for the thesis is ''Social life of things'' by Arjun Apparudai, on which is based a big part of the thesis. The thesis examines the total trajectory of specific waste and tries to solve a question if waste can become a commodity. Special focus is given to the waste management and perception of waste from the perspectives of specific actors - citizens of Police nad Metují. The research was conducted in the spirit of qualitative methodology. The main sources of data are semi-structured interviews given by five participants, whose transcripts were analysed by content analysis. Additional data sources are observations within the region. Furthermore, a terrain probe in Vietnam metropolis, Ho Chi Minh City, whereas the data collected by this probe are given for comparison. The results of the thesis are showing that waste can become a commodity, although, just in specific cases. In the course of the research, infrastructure has emerged as an equally important topic, which has a major impact on waste management and its perception. Other major influencers identified by the analysis were ecology and the concept of usability.

Changes in everyday life, in connection with changes of military airport "Korea"

1 Annotation: The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out, how has changed the daily life of the former employees of the Žatec military airport, called "Korea". The thesis focuses on the testimonies and changes in the interpretations of the livelihood of the former Žatec "Korea" Airport employees in the context of the changes that have affected the airport building. The thesis also follows the life strategies and coping ways, which did these people had at their disposal, in order to acclimatize to a new way of life and in shaping of their new life path. The scope of the thesis is also extended by the summary of how does the daily life of the former employees from this airport in the Žatec region looks like today. Research of everyday life, which I cocnlude during this work, arise from theoretical concepts of phenomenological sociology, presented by Alfred Schütz. I examine everyday life in this region through extension of this concept by elements of material culture, colective memory and social identity. Everyday life changes are observed through interview with informants, but also through analysis of Žatec weekly press. Bertsolaritza tradition in the context of language revival and politics in contemporary Basque Country

This doctoral thesis deals with bertsolaritza - Basque poetic improvization - in its relation to language revival and politics in contemporary Basque country. In terms of methodology, this paper is based on anthropological fieldwork combined with the study of secondary data. Theoretical framework uses concepts of ethnicity and nationalism, anthropology of art, theory of poetry and performance as well as concepts of political anthropology. The issue is built on three fields: history of basque nationalism, language revival and bertsolaritza. Bertsolaritza is depicted as an artistic activity that participates on the construction of collective identity of euskaldunak (speakers of Basque). The core analysis is focused on 2013 Championship (Bertsolari Txapelketa Nagusia) in improvised poetry and its link to the basque political discourse 2011-2013. Bertsolaritza is to be understood as an expression of sociopolitical reflections within the frame of izquierda abertzale (nationalist left) as well as an open artistic reflection of a variety of socially relevant issues.
