Evangelista Papazzone and his manuscript Tractatus de arte saltandi

The aim of this dissertation is to analyse and evaluate the content of a unique source from the Rudolphine period, the manuscript by Evangelista Papazzone, a dance master at the court of Rudolf II. The starting point is the independent transcription and translation of the manuscript into Czech. First, the thesis paints a picture of the situation in Bohemia in the second half of the 16th century and the court of Rudolf II, summarizes the existing knowledge about the relationship of the Bohemian nobility to Italian culture and the importance of dance in Bohemia, and discusses the professional possibilities of an Italian dance master in this milieu. The thesis also presents in detail the Italian dance style of the 16th century and presents an analysis of Italian dance treatises, in the context of which Papazzone's manuscript is considered. His treatise is exceptional in that it is the only one of the Renaissance Italian dance manuals to have been written outside Italy, but it shows numerous correspondences with them, especially in that it also favours the gagliarda, the most popular Renaissance dance. Literature on the Folklore Revival Movement in the Czech Journal Taneční listy 1963: a Critical Analysis

This study examines texts published in the Czech journal Taneční listy which deal with the folklore dance and song revival movement after 1945. A detailed analysis is conducted of various texts from the 1963 volume, paying special attention to the dominant themes and typical patterns of thinking. Through the analysis, shifts in the conceptualization of the folk movement in Czechoslovakia in the early 1960s are addressed in connection with changes in the social, political and cultural contexts.

Folk Dance Ensemble Nisanka

The work is mainly about folk dance ensemble Nisanka in North Bohemia, its history from handwritten chronicles and the main characters of the ensemble. Briefly processes the North Bohemian Region, its two main personalities and dances. We also take a look at the ensemble repertoar and also how the ensemble intends to continue its work.

Freelance dance artist in contemporary dance in Prague

The bachelor’s thesis deals with turning milestones in career of a freelance dance artist in contempotrary dance in Prague. The aim of the thesis is to point to conditions in which the dancers nowadays are and how they are dealing with them. In the first part of the thesis, theoretical solutions, which relate to the given problems, are briefly explained. Via an analysis of documents and in-depth interviews, the second part of the thesis presents an overview of a career of a freelance dance artist. It describes crucial topics such as career of a dance artist, legislation and financial sphere of freelance dance artists. The thesis is enriched with quotations from respondents who, in fact, are experts on the topic and they practically confirm the theory.

Nudity in contemporary dance

In my bachelor's thesis titled "Nudity in Contemporary Dance", I was concerned with symbolic of nudity in performing arts in recent years. Firstly, I defined the semiotic terms and also categories of using nudity on the stage. After, I analyzed performances of two important recent choreographers and two of my works. According to the analysis I tried to place each choreography into one of the defined categories and express its significance. I looked at nudity on stage not only from the point of view of meaning, but also from the point of view of the context in which it arises.

Bryantsev, Eifman, Yelizariev: ways of the Soviet choreography of '80s and '90s of the 20th century

This work is about three famous personalities of the Soviet ballet in the second half of the 20thcentury; Valentin Yelizariev, Dmitry Bryancev and Boris Eifman. Through their works we can see an influence of social, cultural and political events on the progression of ballet and art in the countries of Post Soviet Union. The first part of the work focuses on art works of choreographers from the '70s of the 20th century till nowdays. The second part focuses on their works made in the middle of the '90s. The end of the work shows how their works were influ-enced by political changes.

Teaching dance and movement in 1930-1989

In my diploma thesis, I focused on textbooks treating about movement and dance methods based on the works of Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, Isadora Duncan and Carl Orff, which were published in our country between the years 1930 and 1989, on their themes and authors. I have followed the circumstances under which the textbooks were published, the institutions that published them and their contribution to dance and movement pedagogy. I try to point out the main topics of each publication, and to provide their subsequent analysis and comparison. The goal of my work is to present an overview of a wide spectrum of dance and movement methods and to try to find a common theme in them. In the conclusion of my work I touch on the subject of the importance of this teaching material for contemporary conceptions of dance pedagogy and I complement the overall context with a list of textbooks published after 1989.

Farm in the cave: Disconnected

The thesis studies and describes movement in physical theatre. Specifically it works with the production Odtržení of the dance group Farm in the cave.
The production was selected as the best production of the year 2016 on the festival of Czech Dance Platform. The thesis uncovers the backstage of preparations of the production, including the study stay in Japan and the process of creation of individual components of the production. It describes the content and the movement interpretation of individual scenes and situations. Since the author of the thesis took part in the production as one of its interpreters and at the same time participated in its choreography, the thesis includes subjective reflections, personal experience and interviews with other actors in the production.

Contemporary forms of the post of Ballet Master

This diploma thesis deals with the profession of a ballet master. First chapters capture its genesis, development and changes in the context of European and Czech history. The aim of the other chapters is to describe its current form within theatre operation of the Czech ballet companies in 21st century and characterize the particular functions included in it: teacher, assistant, leader of rehearsals. The conclusion presents the thoughts and observations of the current ballet masters and shows the pros and cons, that this artistic post entails. The appendix contains brief portraits of six ballet masters, whose opinions complete the entire work.

The beginnins of ballet in Ostrava until 1934

This thesis is concerned with the formation of ballet company in Ostrava and focuses on the period 1919-1934. It maps the company’s development from its first theatre season, which began with the arrival of the director Václav Jiříkovský and the ballet master and choreographer Achille Viscusi has been of great importance also for the other ballet companies in Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia. The thesis further deals with the personnel composition of the ballet company and with its repertoire, and compares the latter with repertoires of other Czechoslovakian ballet companies of the same period. The papper ends with the year 1934, in which the choreographer Saša Machov lef Ostrava. Through the presented historical information, it is possible to see the developments of Ostrava ballet also in the context of the whole of Czechoslovakia and gain a better understanding of the selection of productions as well as of the artists themselves.
