Czech press for people called up to forced labour in Nazi

The diploma thesis Czech Press for People Called up to Do Forced Labour in Nazi Germany deals with the weekly Czech Labourer which was sent to the Czech workers called up to German factories during the period of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia within the years 1939-1945. The thesis aims at exploring its origin, publishing and changes concerning its publishers and owners. It also analyses its distribution to Nazi Germany and its content in detail. Furthermore, by means of the quantitative analysis the thesis surveys the thematic agenda of the main articles on the front pages. It discusses the impact of the propagandistic information in media on those who were called up to do forced labour. Within the context, this paper examines the operation of media during the period of Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.
Journalist and collaborator Alois Kříž

Diploma thesis "Journalists and Collaborator Alois Kříž" deals with life and work of this activistical journalist, which was due to his collaboration during Second World War sentenced to death in year 1947. Alois Kříž was bom in 1911 and he started his journalistic career in the middle of 30s as a sports-reporter in newspapers called Polední list and Národní noviny. But later he converted from sports-reporter to role of activistical journalist which was working for Nazi Germany: Kříž began to write political articles as an employee of journal Vlajka and his top-carrer started when he moved to protectorate Czech Radio; there he worked his way up to position of editorin- chief. Kříž was arrested for his collaborative activities immediately in May 1945 and after that he was inprisoned for almost two years; Kříž was sentenced to death and executed with another activistical journalists in March 1947.

Rigorous thesis "Novimii' Vaclav Chab (1895 - 1983)" deals with an image of Vaclav Chab, czech publicist, writer and translator. Rigorous thesis describes important moments of Chabs life in chronological sequence. First part of the thesis analysis Chabs growing up and attend to his participation at czechoslovak foreign legion in Russia during First world war. After his return back to the country, he started to work as a journalist at weekly paper Legionarsky smer and then at daily paper Narodni osvobozeni. During the Second world war he was very shortly active in paper Narodni prace and then in paper Nase zpravy and then was obliged to stay in illegality. In the very first beginning ofthe Prague revolution in May 1945, he was active in re-issuing of Narodni osvobozeni. The biggest attention is paid to his journalist proffesion at Narodni osvobozeni. Early in 1950's was Chab employed in Statni pedagogicke nakladatelstvi, where he was active even in retiring age. Rigorous thesis also paid appropriate attention to many of Chabs prosaic publications, in which he mostly describes historical subjects. He is also known for publications with anti-nazi themes. Anti-Semitism in selected Protectorate journals

The work attempt to analyze the displays of anti-Semitism in these three types of Czech written printed periodicals: periodicals based originally on amusement and rest not designated to spread anti-Semitism ("exercise book novels" aimed at particular social groups, women, men and youth); periodicals, which used anti-Semitism as one of the content factor (weekly periodicals of Trust company for youth education in Bohemia and Moravia designed fo children and youth and periodicals od "Vlajka" (Flag) and its branches) and finally periodical, which was based on the purpose of spreading anti-Semitism (Aryan struggle). The work also contains the chapter concerning displays of anti-Semitism in movies projected in protectorate cinemas, which in fact "substitute" anti-Semitism spreading in the Czech written press. Protectorate magazines and attachments of daily press for children and youth as a tool of Nazi propaganda

The work attempts to analyze manifestations and the possible impact of Nazi propaganda in two stages of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. As to daily press the children's annex of Národní politika (National Politics -the most widely read periodical) and Lidové noviny (People's Press - a prestigious and independent newspaper close to the Castle during 1st Republic) have been analyzed. As to periodicals published during the first phase of the protectorate (until the arrest of Prime Minister Alois Eliáš in September 1941) the magazine Mladý hlasatel (Young Announcer) and Dětská neděle (Children's Sunday Magazine) which began to be published in 1935 were chosen and analyzed. The second phase of the protectorate was tightly associated with the establishment and existence of the Curatorium for Education of Bohemian and Moravian Youth and therefore its periodicals Zteč (Charge), Správný kluk (Good Boy) and Dívčí svět (Girl's world) were analyzed together with Knihovna pro mládež (Youth Library) issued by the Curatorium later.
