Otmar Mácha and his symphonic works in 60s and 70s: analysis of Variations on the theme and death of Jan Rychlík, Variants, 1. sinfoniette and 2. sinfoniette

Předmětem mé diplomové práce je symfonická tvorba Otmara Máchy 60. a 70. let a analýza čtyř stěžejních děl do tohoto období spadajících: Variací na téma a smrt Jana Rychlíka (1964), Variant-malé studie pro orchestr (1968), 1. sinfonietty (1970-1971) a 2. sinfonietty "Ať vzejdou věci nové" (1978-1980). Práce vznikla v návaznosti na mou seminární práci z roku 2005, v níž jsem se zabývala Variacemi na téma a smrt Jana Rychlíka1. Hlavním účelem práce je sledování tvůrčího vývoje, který Otmar Mácha během let 1964-1980 prodělal, jednak v kontextu vlastní tvorby a jednak v kontextu české hudby 60. a 70. let. Dalším důvodem pro vznik této diplomové práce bylo též zjištění, že se tvorbou Otmara Máchy zatím nikdo podrobněji nezabýval - výjimku tvoří pouze několik studií, o nichž bude řeč v kapitole I. Stav bádání. Diplomová práce se člení do kapitol a podkapitol. První tři kapitoly jsou věnovány stavu bádání, dobovému kontextu a životu a dílu Otmara Máchy. Prostřední část práce tvoří kapitoly věnované analýzám čtyř výše zmíněných symfonických skladeb Otmara Máchy. Závěrečná kapitola přináší zaprvé shrnutí a porovnání poznatků získaných analýzami, zadruhé zařazení analyzovaných děl do kontextu Máchovy tvorby a zatřetí zařazení symfonické tvorby Otmara Máchy do kontextu české hudby 60. a 70. let 20. století. Cantata and oratorio in Czech and French post-war music

Kantátově-oratorn tvorba představuje v celkové hudebn produkci druhé poloviny 20. stolet poměrně početnou skupinu. Po roce 1950 předevšm dky oblibě politických a sociálnch témat zažvala kantátová tvorba velkou expanzi. 50. léta se tak stala velmi bohatým kantátovým obdobm. Avšak v následujcch dekádách už tak velké produkce nedosáhla. Autoři zejména v oratorn tvorbě pokračuj ve volbě témat, která se daj označit za tradičn, jakými jsou mytologie, náměty z bible nebo ze života světců. Od 50. let se kromě politických a sociálnch námětů objevovala i dla s tematikou doznvajcch reakc na 2. světovou válku (kantáta-oratorium G. Křivinky Motýli tady nežijí), dále historickou (P. Eben - Pocta Karlu IV.) a série kantát Z. Šestáka na latinské texty odkazujcch na bibli. Naproti tomu se francouzšt autoři věnuj vce biblickým námětům, kdy se jejich oblbeným přběhem stává putován tř králů za betlémskou hvězdou. Francouzšt autoři také rádi opěvuj krásu Pařže (Jean Françaix - Les ponts de Paris) nebo zámku ve Versailles (Joseph Kosma - La promenade Versailles). V porovnán obou zem se oratoria po tematické stránce však přliš neodlišuj. Objevuj se (podobně jako u kantát) náměty z bible, historie i aktuáln dějinné události, jakými byl opět konec druhé světové války nebo v 60. letech lety do vesmru. Zajmavost ve Francii je volba...

Giovanni Manzuoli and his vocal profile of the 1760s

The bachelor thesis deals with the personality of Giovanni Manzuoli (1720-1782), the singing castrato. The thesis summarises the present knowledge and reconstructs his singing career on the basis of his known opera performances. The text focuses on the last decade of Manzuoli's artistic career which offers the richest source base for interpretation, including commentaries about performances and records of the amount of the honorarium. The fundamental part of the thesis is a repertoire analysis which had been composed bespoke for Manzuoli. Selected arias from 1760s are analysed mainly through the prism of singing technique and interpretation of that time. The result of this analysis is an outline of Manzuoli's vocal profile. This thesis 011 Czech music in France between the years of 1945 and 1968 is the result of my studies in France and follows my memoir on the state of Franco-Czech musical relations between the two world wars. It discusses the role of Czech music in France during this period and its reception not only at concerts, but also in the press, literature and media ofthe era. This thesis compares this situation with that between the wars, using evidence taken from the memoir. The topic is seen in its historical context, from both a musical and a political point of view.

Art music in the broadcasting of the Czechoslovak radio "Radiojournal" in the 1930s and specific character of music written for the radio

Cilem prvni casti me prace venovane Radiojoumalu tricatych let dvacateho stoleti bylo zachytit historii Radiojoumalu, predevsim pak vysilani vazne hudby v ramci teto wbec prvni rozhlasove stanice v Ceskoslovensku a zarovenjedne z prvnich v evropskem kontextu. Kapitola venovana obdobi pocatku pravidelneho vysilani (1923) do roku 1929 predstavuje obdobi postupneho vy-voje rozhlasu a jeho vychodiska pro fungovani v letech tricatych. Stezejnimi likoly rozhlasu tohoto obdobi bylo predevsim vyrovnavani se se zpocatku improvizovanym chodem vysilani, zapnCinenym z vetSi casti nedostatkem vhodnych prostor a mnozstvim technickych obtizi spojenych s nastolenim zcela nove techniky bezdratoveho vysilani a nutnosti jejiho ustaleni. Vítězslav Novák - Ranoša. Ballad for Mixed Chorus and Orchestra on Words of Moravian Folk Verses, Op. 19, 1

The topic of this Bachelor thesis is the ballad "Ranoša". Composer Vítězslav Novák used this originally folk text in his composition Ballads on Words of Moravian Folk Poetry, op. 19. The objective of this work is primarily a gathering of sources enabling a deeper understanding of the work and a subsequent analysis of the musical and textual components. Regarding the study of sources, the work focuses mainly on musical sources, then on correspondence and reviews in the contemporary music-oriented press. Integral parts of this thesis are the work with folk text, the description of the genre of the folk ballad and the search for the origin of the ballad "Ranoša" in song collections at home and abroad. The musical analysis deals with the version of the composition for piano four hands, which is compared with the orchestral version.

Antonín Dvořák: Moravian Duets from the viewpoint of musical philology

The dissertation is closely related to the project of The New Complete Edition of the Works of Antonín Dvořák. It focuses on research which inevitably has to precede the editorial work on the new critical edition of all 23 Moravian duets: a thorough record of their editorial history, heuristic activity and an assessment of all relevant surviving sources. It is not intended as an introductory text to the new edition of this vocal work, as it does not deal with all issues related to a critical edition. On the contrary, it strives to elaborate a number of topics in greater detail and put them in a wider context. In this sense it aspires to become a foundation of the editorial work itself. By means of modern philological methods, the dissertation registers and assesses a close-to double amount of different editions of Moravian duets than have been registered in Burghauser's Thematic catalogue of Dvořák's work (Prague 1996). It includes a hitherto unknown copy of Sušil's collection of Moravian Folksongs of 1860, which Dvořák used as the text original in composing his work. The textual aspect of Moravian duets represents one of the focus points of this dissertation. A Masked Ball by Verdi and Auber in 19th century Prague

V sezóně 1868-1869 se na Prozatímním divadle v Praze konala česká premiéra dvou oper dle stejného námětu. První z nich měla pod názvem Maškarní ples krále Gustava III. premiéru 26. 1. 1869 (světová premiéra zpěvohry Gustave III, ou Le Bal masqué se konala v divadle Opéra v Paříži 27. 2. 1833). Jedná se o historickou operu v pěti aktech od Daniela Françoise Esprit Aubera, libreto napsal Augustin Eugne Scribe. Druhá opera byla pod názvem Un ballo in maschera (Gustav III.) poprvé uvedena 30. 6. 1869 (světová premiéra zpěvohry Un ballo in maschera se konala v divadle Apollo v Římě 17. 2. 1859). Tuto tříaktovou operu zkomponoval Giuseppe Verdi, text napsal Antonio Somma dle Scribova libreta k výše uvedené opeře. Obě díla se na Prozatímním divadle provozovala v překladu Emanuela Züngela. Českým premiérám zpěvoher předcházely pražské premiéry německé ve Stavovském divadle. Auberova zpěvohra pod názvem Die Ballnacht byla ve Stavovském divadle poprvé provozována 5. 4. 1836, premiéra nového nastudování se konala tamtéž 3. 3. 1858. Verdiho zpěvohra pod názvem Ein Maskenball byla ve Stavovském divadle poprvé provozována 14. 8. 1866. Drsný námět zpěvohry - skutečná historická událost zavraždění švédského krále Gustava III, způsobil oběma autorům již při světových premiérách potíže. Auber byl nařčen některými žijícími...

Alexander Moyzes: Piano Sonata in E minor, op. 2

The focus of the bachelor thesis is to examine in closer detail the piano composition Piano Sonata in E minor, op. 2 by the Slovakian composer Alexander Moyzes (1906-1984). This is achieved through the compositional-technical analysis of its printed version that was published during the composer's life, in 1947. The aim is not to place the composition primarily within the historical context as a considerable amount of related sources has been collected; a large space of the work is therefore occupied by the analysis of these sources. Through the detailed study of these the thesis attempts to outline the genesis of the above mentioned composition and briefly comment on the development of Moyzes's compositional activities. Perception of Bohuslav Martinů's Works in the German speaking countries 1923 - 1939

Die vorliegende Arbeit wurde einem bis dahin unerforschten Thema gewidmet, nämlich dem Komponisten Bohuslav Martinů und seiner Rolle im Musikleben des deutschsprachigen Raumes in den Jahren 1923-1939. Bohuslav Martinů, der seit 1923 in Paris lebte, richtete sein hauptsächliches Interesse dem Pariser Musikgeschehen und blieb mit dem Musikleben der ersten Tschechoslowakischen Republik in Verbindung. Dennoch wandte sich seine Aufmerksamkeit auch bald dem jungen Musikleben des deutschsprachigen Raums zu. Das Thema, das vom Interesse am Schaffen von Bohuslav Martinů geleitet ist, der zu Beginn der untersuchten Zeitspanne noch unbekannt war, jedoch rasch zu einem wichtigen Vertreter der Komponistengeneration der Zwischenkriegszeit avancierte, steht in mehreren Wechselwirkungen. Ausgehend von Recherchen zeitgenössischer Dokumente - Korrespondenz, Martinůs Notizen und Publizistik - wurden Studien zum Musikleben, zur Biographik und Rezeption durchgeführt. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit wurden Martinůs Werke und ihre Aufführungen im deutschsprachigen Raum sowie die Initiatoren, Veranstalter und Interpreten behandelt.
