Jouza, Lukáš ; Vaněk, Miroslav (advisor) ; Franc, Martin (referee)
The main objective of this thesis is to capture the complexity of the issue of insufficiency of automobiles and their spare parts in Czechoslovakia between years 1948 - 1989, with emphasis on the period of so called normalization (70s and 80s). "Framework" of this study is constituted by national company Mototechna - in that time almost monopoly seller of automobiles and spare parts, whose history and structure is an important part of this study and is therefore depicted in detail. Description of the development of motoring and car sales systems from the very first years following after the Second World War with a slight overlap to the 90s is also a pivotal content of this thesis. Chapters dedicated to grey economy and perception of automobile as an "object" from the "people's point of view" (in the researched period) are also constituent parts of this study, as they relate to the main topic very closely. Presented study is a result of research, which utilized method of oral history as well as contemporary written materials and present-day available literature. Oral history interviews were conducted with seven former Mototechna employees and three Mototechna "customers" - owners of automobile from the public. The amateur theatrical societies in the West Bohemian borderlands - The theatre in Hostoun, in Pobezovice in years 1947 - 1990
Lešková, Eva ; Franc, Martin (advisor) ; Houda, Přemysl (referee)
This diploma thesis is on the history of amateur theatre societies in the West Bohemian border area, focusing on two companies, the Hostouň company and the Poběžovice company. With respect to the fact that these theatre companies were most popular with the audience during the period before the revolution in 1989, I will focus on their theatre activities between 1947 and 1990 in my thesis. Amateur theatre has always been a Czech cultural phenomenon and was always considered an effective means of creating positive relations within a community. At the same time many theatre performances reflect the historic situation and provide its unique generational interpretation. To explain the overall situation concerning amateur theatre in socialist Czechoslovakia, I endeavour to describe the theatre environment during the post-war period in the third chapter. The methodology of work is based on specialist literature, archive records and chiefly on conversations based on the oral history methods. On the basis of oral historic research I also endeavour to elaborate on topics, which undoubtedly belong to amateur theatre. These topics include characterisation of an amateur actor or director, motivation for performing theatre, amateur theatre shows, expert juries, dramaturgy, stage design and others. The purpose of...
"Pukl, hyjta ha muzika" or else personal memories of Chod Folklor group members not only on ethnographic festival Chod Celebrations
Batková, Žaneta ; Krátká, Lenka (advisor) ; Franc, Martin (referee)
The objective of this Master's thesis is to reflect personal memories of the folklore group members on ethnographic Chod festivals, which circle around the period from the fifties till the present day. As well as putting the emphasis on comparison between the memories made before and after 1989, I also focus on the component spheres of interpretation, such as topics about traveling of the Chod folklore groups before the year of 1989 or about music careers of each of the narrators. Furthermore, I observe the changes in political situations and its potential influence on Chod Festivals and its organization and the relationship of local folk groups. The primary sources of this thesis consist of interviews conducted by oral history method with former and current members of local folk groups. The text also derives from archived materials, period press and memoir literature. During the reflection on ethnographic festival the text observes not only historical and political aspect, but the musical and social aspect as well. The biggest contribution of the thesis is therefore the presentation of the topic from different points of view. Key words: Chod Festival, Folklore, bag pipers music, communism, traveling, Oral history.

Zdráhalová, Lucie ; Franc, Martin (advisor) ; Schindler-Wisten, Petra (referee)
The thesis tries to contribute to spread the consciousness about the people who had learning disabilities and who lived during the normalization. In our contemporary history this group was marginalized. The aim of this thesis is to try if and how the environment and living conditions of these people in the institutional care changed during the years 1969 - 1992. The research was realised by the oral history and worked with five testimonies of women who live in different parts of the Czech Republic and who worked with people with learning disabilities before 1989 and also in the nineties. The other sources which I used were publications devoted to special education. These publications contain the short process of evolution of care of people with learning disabilities. I used the publications which were published during the years 1969 - 1992 and also those which were published after 1989. The basic area of topics in the thesis includes the daily routine in the institutional care, the education (institutional and also non-institutional), employment, financial matters and the leisure time of people with learning disabilities. The others are: the view of the majority society to these people and how the special teachers were educated. The final chapter reflects the changes occurred after November 1989....

The thesis Religious Life In South Bohemia In The Period of 1948-1989 deals with the issue of limitations of Catholic religious life from the Czechoslovak state. By using the method of oral history, studying achival sources of South Bohemian Regional National Committee and history literature, in my thesis I was trying to approach at least some aspects of that time in the lives of seven witnesses comprising four catholic priest and three laymen. Keywords: catholic church, policy, religion, oral history, canon laws, communism
Magazine Květen
Mečíř, Vojtěch ; Houda, Přemysl (advisor) ; Franc, Martin (referee)
Kveten was a monthly magazine for literature and art (and by its third year also for "life"), which was published under the auspices of the Union of Czechoslovak Writers from September 1956 to June 1959. It was founded as a magazine for "aspiring writers", but quite soon this concept proved to be unsustainable and members of the editorial board started to give the magazine its own new look, which got even a more comprehensible form during the II. Czechoslovak Writers Congress, after young poets (and theorists) manifested the "Poetry of Everyday Life". It was, however, defined quite generally and maybe even vaguely, which is the fact the authors were struggling with during the following year. At the same time they are exposed to the pressure of official authorities as "anti-revisionism" began to destroy liberal environment that prevailed around 1956. Kveten tried to resist this tendency. In addition, at that time young theorists found a firmer basis, which gradually became unacceptable for the regime. At the beginning of 1959 there comes a wave of heavy critcism and results in abolishing the magazine. In my thesis I demonstrate through archival research, oral history and semiotic analysis that despite the abolition the management of Kveten maintained the principle of "partiality" and is guilty rather for...
