A Comparison of migration crises of the European Union in 2015 and 2022 in terms of "push" and "pull" effects - A Comparative case study of migration trends
Fiala, Tomáš ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Földes, Kristián (referee)
in English The waves of migration from Syria in 2015 and from Ukraine in 2022 significantly affected the number of people who applied for asylum or temporary protection in the EU. In this work, these migration waves are compared through a pre-selected framework of the so- called "neoclassical theory" which operates on the basis of rational decision-making about migration as an "economic" calculation of risks, advantages and disadvantages (so-called "push" and "pull" factors and "intervening obstacles"). Through comparison, the work tries to answer the questions of the similarity of the two migration waves and, through their analysis, at the same time, the question of whether these waves influenced the Migration and Asylum Policy of the EU as such. Despite certain similarities in the political aspects of the comparison, the similarity of the two waves was not confirmed, however, a shift in the creation of the EU migration policy framework after the migration wave in 2015 was also confirmed.
Drop-out of patients with substance dependence from in-patient treatment
Fiala, Tomáš ; Kalina, Kamil (advisor) ; Kulhánek, Adam (referee)
Drop out for clients with addiction has an adverse effect on their abstinence - the probability of relapse is very high (Kalina, 2003). By contrast, treatment completion is associated with abstinence, lower criminal activity, fewer relapses and a higher employment rate (Brorson et al., 2013). For effective addiction treatment is crucial to minimize the number of drop outs. Risk factors appear not only on the client side, but also on the side of the service. The study focused on clients who planned to drop out, but at last they decided to stay. Anamnestic data and interviews with clients helped to identify common client traits and answer the questions about the client thinking process during the crisis, what they emphasize, how they evaluate their decision not to drop out and what motivational influences they identify. Frequent common traits of clients who overcame drop out tendencies were a higher age (90 %), criminal record (74 %), contact with psychiatry (84 %) and repeated addiction treatment (74 %). Interpersonal conflicts with staff and clients (50 %) and craving (22 %) were the most frequent reasons to drop out. Nearly 2/3 of clients appreciated the improved mental and physical health. The support from the others was the main reason for retention in treatment (31 % from relatives, 26 % from...
Fish wars : dynamic externality in fishing
Fiala, Tomáš ; Gregor, Martin (advisor) ; Vošvrda, Miloslav (referee)
The dramatic state of world fish stock is often attributed to the open-access nature of fishing grounds. In this thesis we investigate the consequences of unrestricted access to fisheries by adopting game theoretic framework. We describe the situation of fish appropriation by dynamic model and find some of its Nash equilibria. We show that one of the possible results of the nonexclusive nature of fisheries is overexploitation. Moreover, we find that other outcomes are possible as well. The tragedy of commons is, thus, not inevitable.
