The Development of the Form -m.u to Forms -ó/ -jó and daró as an Example of Grammaticalization and Subjectification
Kanasugi, Petra ; Švarcová, Zdeňka (advisor) ; Fiala, Karel (referee) ; Barešová, Ivona (referee)
The thesis is a continuation of studies of Japanese modality, however its theme is not defined based on a particular kind of modality as is commonly done in synchronic studies but based on completely or to a degree shared common origin of the studied forms. Usage and properties of Early Middle Japanese -m.u are compared with usage and properties of Modern Japanese {-ō /-jō} a darō, schematic meanings of respective forms are suggested and grammaticalization and subjectification shifts which have taken place during approximately one thousand years of development are mapped. The results of the analysis show that subjectification has taken place and that the main impuls leading to the subjectification changes was grammaticalization of suffix -m.u to ending {-ō /-jō} respectively to particle (in Narrog (1998) terms) darō, which lead to split of one schematic meanings "inclination" in general control cycle (Langacker 2002, 2009) to two separate schematic meanings "inclination" in factual respectively epistemic control cycle. Analysis of Defence Research and Development in the Czech Republic
Fiala, Karel ; Knobloch, František (advisor) ; Stejskal, Libor (referee)
Defence research and development is an important public policy phenomenon, which represents a relevant part of security policy and interferes with many other areas when considered in a wider perspective. My diploma thesis presents an analysis of the Czech policy of defence research and development and an international comparison with the Netherlands and Slovakia. Governmental policy in this area is relatively pro-active as regards its declared settings. On the other hand, its actual practise reveals many problematic areas. Ministry of Defence's expenditure on defence research and development has been falling since 1999 and recently finds itself well below the limit guaranteed by the law. Insufficient utilisation of foreign financial support might be considered negatively as well. The analysis that I carried out in my thesis identified fundamental shortcomings of the Czech system, the functioning of which is far from being optimal. The deficiencies have mostly a systemic manner and can not be solved by partial changes. Due to this reason I propose an alternative set up of the Czech policy of defence research and development, based on a shift to the agency model inspired by the Dutch experience.

Aspectuality in Japanese
Šmídová, Hana ; Švarcová, Zdeňka (advisor) ; Barešová, Ivona (referee) ; Fiala, Karel (referee)
This thesis strives to survey the category of aspectuality in Japanese. In the beginning the general definition of aspectuality is presented and consequently applied in the language context of Japanese. In respective chapters the thesis describes individual levels of expressing aspectual meaning. It provides a detail study in the categories of grammatical tense, aspect and modality and in their means in Japanese. The aim of the thesis is to show that in Japanese, although it does not assign a separate grammatical category of aspect as Czech language does, the aspectual meanings are being expressed, even if using different linguistic means than those used in Czech. The thesis contains many examples from the current language usage.

Přírodovědecká fakulta Masarykovy university Brno, katedra životního prostředí, Brno ; Fiala, Karel ; Čurlík, Ján
Studie přibližuje celkovou problematiku kontaminace půd v povodích, způsoby a metodiky analytických prací a indikátory znečištění. Jsou popsány vlastnosti půdy, které ovlivňují rizikovost akumulace stopových prvků. Jsou uvedeny limitní koncentrace rizikových prvků v půdách.
