Reflection of Kafka´s Fiction Work in Czech Literary Criticism since the 1950s

In my diploma thesis I deal with the reflection of the texts about Franz Kafka, the Prague German writer, and his work that were published between the year 1948 and the end of the century. I try to show the reflection of that time ideology, thinking and the culture politics in the literary and newspaper texts and magazines? reviews and also their changes during the time. Methodological chapter of this thesis discusses not clearly defined term representation. The way these texts represent the period to the recipient (and vice versa) is based on the interpretation method the new historicism?s and Charles Sanders Pierce sign theory. Therefore this chapter also discusses the theoretical ideas of the new historicism and analyses terms like index, icon and symbol. The second chapter deals with the period these texts about Franz Kafka?s work originated in. It is about that time?s thinking, key political events and the atmosphere of the time. The third chapter is focused directly on cultural politics and its development in particular years and major events that represents mode changes having an impact on the field of literature and culture. The final chapter analyses the particular texts that were published in periodicals or books in particular decades. I am trying to show the reflection of political events and the atmosphere of the time and find out what these texts say about the period in which they arose. I also study the changing attitude to the personality of Franz Kafka, his work and the development of its interpretation. The final part conclusion summarizes each decade, which depends on the period atmosphere and cultural policy and which can be observed in the articles or posts, with whom I worked.

Klíma´s Proses Inspired by Franz Kafka

My bachelor thesis is based on interpretation of prosaic texts by Ivan Klíma, presentation on current problems of today?s society in his work and Klíma?s inspiration from Franz Kafka?s books. That is the reason for my focus on the intertextuality concept in the methodological part from the theorists? point of view who dealt with it. Gérard Genett?s conception for intertextual, i.e. transtextual relations naming was used in this case. Transtextual analyses led me to the characteristics of Kafka?s important themes?? and topics. Aim of the practical whole is to reveal the sense of Ivan Klíma?s work? with help of transtextual relations and to defend their connections with understanding? of his work.
