This essay deals with the circumstances of making of a film Brazil. It analyzes its themes and directors thoughts , which the film is about. Film connection with novel and film 1984 and enlighten the definition of dystopia, I pursue myself with description and partly by the way many important locations in film are shot, and dramatic structure of the film. In final chapter I describe some problems which took place before releasing into cinemas, which remind me of the main plot of the film itself.

"Král Šumavy" - phenomenon and ideology of / in the film

This bachelor thesis is interested in one of the most famous, popular as well as controversial movie of Czechoslovak provenience of the 1950s ? in the movie Král Šumavy (Smugglers of Death). This movie is so pupular because of perfect and imaginative interpretation, but then it is controversial due to ideological content. The thesis tries to put the movie into perspektive of history and of today. Analyses the movie, exactly its parts and its context. It takes into consideration got finding and consultation, and confronts them with general or conventional explications of communist ideas. Finally, it concentrates on problem of ideology in/of film and cinematography in its entirety.

Underground comics and its treatment in film

In my work, I am concerned with what kind of options are given to film makers by alternative or underground comics in terms of their adaptation. My original goal is not only comparing film adaptation and the original movie, but also comparison of the different approaches by each author. In the first part of my work, I am trying to assort and clarify definitions which describe the alternative comic work and also explain what the alternative comic work actually means. Because I am dealing with the alternative comics which is not very well known in the Czech republic, I attempted a partial summary of its development. I am also trying to outline the theme and style of such pieces at the same time. That is, in my opinion, the only way how to zoom on the possibilities or sources of inspiration that these pieces may or may not offer to film makers. In the second part, I am trying to compare two films which are actually the only two available adaptations of the alternative comics. It is more of a comparison of the overall film concept and comparison of the structure than analysing the films theirselves.

Vladimír Michálek: development of a director

Vladimír Michálek is one of the most distinctive Czech film directors of the post-revolution generation. Although at FAMU he studied documentary film, he turned to feature films right after his studies. His work stands apart from the Czech context mainly because Michálek is one of the few directors who aren?t afraid to experiment. He sees himself as a mere craftsman who fulfills visions of others, however his careful preparation and original approach to every project prove the contrary. Michálek has made 6 feature films. An interesting part of his work are adaptations of complex novels, whose meanings are often difficult to grasp. His biggest artistic achievement so far is the film Sekal has to Die. The aim of my work is to analyze Michálek?s feature films and see how the director approached individual topics and in connection to this monitor his changes of style.
