Ethnographic and Folcloric Aspects in the Work of Eastern Bohemian Teachers

This diploma thesis is focused on the generation of committed teachers, regional eastern Bohemia patriotic activists that were interested in ethnography and folklore studies on the amateur level. The first part of the thesis introduces four profession-associates of the same generation, teachers from the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th Century. Subsequent chapters deal with wider cultural-historical context with the emphasis on the history of pedagogy and ethnology. In the thesis there is also the development of homeland studies depicted. These studies were introduced as compulsory at the beginning of 20th Century and were therefore suitable for deepening of the educational role of the school via ethnographical materials. The main focus of the thesis is on the intersection of homeland education and ethnographic activities of mentioned teachers (cooperation with professionals, interest in collecting…) as well as the analysis of their importance to the professional ethnography.
Ethics and heroism in oral tradition of Montenegrian national movement

This work focuses on the description and comparison of the main characters and their characteristics associated with Montenegrin national movement, as reflected in the collective oral creation, especially prose and song folklore. Special emphasis will be placed on the ethical dimension of the characters and events and a summary of the moral-ethical qualities traditionally associated with them.
Forming the Branch Nomenclature of Folf Costume

The folk costume, including its revitalized forms, is one of the most significant and simultaneously one of the most studied categories in the research of european folk culture. This research project is focused on reflections of the branch nomenclature of folk costume in the context of ethnological methodology with consideration of museological aspects and above all the history and development of the branch in its relevant european schools, streams and centers. The work is based on comparative communication of the author with less or more important characters in the branch (or closely connected) who were oriented on research of the folk costume cathegory or widely of the material culture, mostly through their professional texts. The contemporary researchers, whose work is not finished yet, are not evaluated in this work by intention, but their work and thoughts are reflected strongly as an important inspiration source of the presented dissertation. The primary goal of this project is not only observation and study the terminology and methodology for technical processing of the ethnological cathegory of folk costume, but also the research of the history of this branch underpinning its fundamental as well as less important aspects in the european international context.
Traditional Folk Wedding in Podještědí. Wedding Habits and Rites in Regional Sources

The submitted bachelor's thesis acquaints the readers with the wedding rite in the traditional folk environment of a ethnographic region Podještědí. The information used in the thesis has primarily come from the regional sources the analysis of which is presented. By means of critical approach to sources and reflection of historical social circumstances the author tries to depict a probable picture of the wedding rite in the 19th century and to characterize the attributes and elements of the folk wedding folk and to it related habits. The work accentuates role of each wedding participant, especially the role of the "best man" called "družba". The text describes the negotiations of marriage and premarital preparation. The thesis focuses on the wedding day, various rite acts and entertainment features: The day began with the gathering of guests at the bride's parents' house. Then the wedding procession had set off to the church, where the religious ceremony took place. The wedding feast banquet followed after return from the church. In the evening the wedding guests danced. In the course of the evening the bride received a bonnet, a sign of a married woman. The entire celebration ended up with the ceremonial moving of the bride into a new house. Each phase of the wedding had its own intended form...
Šafránek's Chronicle of Town Hořice as Ethnographic Source

The Bachelor Thesis deals with the chronicle, written by the craftsman František Šafránek from Hořice. The chronicle describes events from the second half of 19th century. Its use as an ethnographic source provides a large amount of themes, from which were chosen small-town festivities for detailed analysis. These records brings us opportunity to get a closer look at the festivities and their course as perceived by the eyes of their direct participant. There are not only traditional festivities of folk origin but also festivities originated during 19th century, especially in the last third of this century in connection with society changes. The chronicle recorded by František Šafránek is one of sources which can contribute to understanding of festivities in 19th century. Beadwork applications on traditional textiles

This research is devoted to beadwork applications on tradition textiles of definite regions of Bohemia and Moravia. The aim of the study is determination of significance of beadwork decoration in the traditional costume in final stage of tradition culture existence. Specificity of development of beadwork, requirements, and regional types are central subjects of this research. The thesis contains studies of relationship between glass technology development and circulation of glass beads in rural area. Impacts of cosmopolitan fashion tendencies on traditional costume, change of functions of beads in traditional dress are also considered. This research covers the period from second half of 19 sentries to first half of 20 centuries (interwar period). Midwifery activities from Pacov parish in the second half of the 19. century

The main theme of the thesis submitted is the midwifery practice in Pacov parish surroundings in the period of the 2nd half of the 19th century. Based on the studies of professional literature and archival files of diverse nature, the motivation of women to choose a midwife's profession, their education at Charles-Ferdinand University, but also the socioprofessional structure of their clientage, the issues of wages, emergency christenings, godparenthood avd many others, were studied. Using a micro-historical method, a group of 5 midwives, who got involved not only in Pacov, but also in other villages assigned to its parish, was monitored. Inspiration by historical demography is noticeable particularly in the chapters, in which the frequency of assistances at births of each of the midwives, or their filling in the role of godmothers are monitored.

The puppet and its metamorphosis in the Czech folk culture

This thesis focuses on the phenomenon of a puppet, the transformation of its function, the typology of puppets and the technological process of its production, especially in the Czech folk culture. It also monitors the development of a puppet from its beginnings until present days not only in the Czech environment, but in the European context too. Besides it describes typical characters portrayed by a puppet, the symbolism of a puppet and themes of the plays of the puppet theatre related to puppets in Bohemia. It also notices professions connected to the puppet - puppetry and carving. It also tries at insight on the understanding of puppet and puppet theatre currently in the Czech environment.
