To better understand the issue of caste discrimination, in the second chapter the thesis looks at the caste system in India and the Indian legislation related to castes. Next chapters study specific reactions of the UN and the EU and the instruments that have been applied by both organizations.
Human rights protection and national interest: the case of border fences in the European Union
Ferrario, Ljuba ; Novotná, Markéta (advisor) ; Burešová, Jana (referee)
Ever since the beginning of the refugee crisis, the efficiency of the Common European Asylum System has been questioned by MSs and European institutions. Recently, physical barriers have been built by an increasing number of countries in the European Union for the purpose of border controls. Simultaneously, several human rights organization have expressed their concerns on the violation of the right to asylum and of the prohibition of inhuman and degrading treatment resulting from the adoption of this method. This research will analyze this phenomenon through the perspective of international relations theory. The analysis will consider the realist approach in opposition to the liberal one, trying to assess whether border fences can be defined as an expression of national interest which compromises international cooperation in the field of human rights.
Development of the Gaza Strip in the Context of Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
Svobodová, Kateřina ; Havlová, Radka (advisor) ; Burešová, Jana (referee)
This bachelor thesis follows the development of the Gaza Strip during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The first part is focused on the history of the conflict with emphasis placed on the events that influenced the analysed area. In the next chapter, events of the 21st century that affected the current situation and living conditions in this area were discussed, namely the Israeli unilateral disengagement from Gaza, economic blockade imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip, and three military operations that Israel executed in this territory during the ongoing blockade. The consequences of the blockade and military actions have thrown the examined area into a state that is on the edge of inhabitability Attention is also paid to the Palestinian political scene, namely to the rise of the Islamist Hamas movement and the increasing rivalry between the Fatah and Hamas factions. It is precisely the internal problems and instability of the Palestinian leadership that are currently among the obstacles to finding a peaceful solution to the whole Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Horák, Pavel ; Čechurová, Jana (advisor) ; Burešová, Jana (referee) ; Kuklík jun., Jan (referee)
HORÁK, Pavel, Počátky poúnorového sociálnědemokratického exilu (1948-1953) [Forming of socialdemocratic post-February exile (1948-1953)], Praha, Karlova univerzita, Filozofická fakulta, Ústav českých dějin, 2014, 392 s. Vedoucí diplomové práce Doc. PhDr. Jana Čechurová, Ph.D. The study aims to answer questions in which way was formed socialdemocratic exile party in the years 1948-1953. It studies who, how and why could have or wanted to have been involved in this process. The topic is viewed from the institutional perspective of an "exile party". It analyses how was the party organised and negotiated. Besides personal stories in the background of refugee everydayness it also looks into what it meant to a be a "social democrat" in "post-February exile" and whether the "exile party" created its own sphere of communicative space for formulating program and various demands and initiatives. The work focuses on the formative period of "exile". It is delimited by the year 1953 which proved a long-term, bipolar character of the world order. The hypothesis is the statement that the "exile socialdemocratic party" was formed in the frame of Czechoslovakian post-February migration as an institution which was creating its own communication, social and migration networks based on specific criteria. At the same...
Women's Columns in 1920's Newspaper and their Authors: Olga Fastrová, Marie Fantová, Milena Jesenská, Staša Jílovská and Zdena Wattersonová
Penkalová, Lenka ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Burešová, Jana (referee) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
In my doctoral thesis I decided to explore a genre of so called women's columns, specialized newspaper sections which were created to satisfy namely female audiences. First women's columns appeared in the end of 19th century in the United States and quickly became very popular. Although newspaper writing for women was a significant phenomenon of popular culture during the first decades of 20th century, czech media historians have so far payed almost no attention to this quite interesting topic. Because of the lack of information about constitution, development and characteristics of women's columns in czechoslovak newspaper after 1918 I focused on basic research of selected czech dailies (Lidové noviny, Národní listy, Tribuna, Národní politika, Prager Presse) and tried to follow how these newspapers formed and operated pages meant for female readers. Specifically I studied contents, layout, typography, style and authors of czech women's columns in the chosen period (1918-1930). My aim was to show that women's columns were important both for editors and for readers and that main authors of those columns (characterized in five biographical chapters) considerably took part on discussion about lifestyle, family and gender issues of the time.
Agriculture Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia
Štolleová, Barbora ; Kubů, Eduard (advisor) ; Šouša, Jiří (referee) ; Burešová, Jana (referee)
Agriculture of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia institutional change - production - exploitation The work considers changes of agricultural sector in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia that took place under pressure of occupation and war efforts of the Third Reich. It defines Nazi goals that were connected with agriculture, their methods that were to fulfil them and their results. The institutional change, production and exploitation build three main pillars of research. The institutional change, especially implementing of managed economy in agriculture and establishment of new institutions as instruments of Nazi control worked as the prerequisite for Nazi's performance in agriculture. The managed system of economy enabled implementation of wide range of administrative measures that significantly influenced agricultural production, its structure and intensity. The work analyzes relation between administration and performance of agriculture. The general change of this sector and its contribution to Germany are evaluated in wider context of Nazi's exploitation of occupied territories.
Kapitálový požadavek ke kreditnímu riziku
Burešová, Jana ; Charamza, Pavel (referee) ; Keprta, Stanislav (advisor)
In the present work we study the process of determination of capital requirement for credit risk that is recommended by the Basel Commitee for Banking Supervision to implement into national legislation and that is also obligatory for all European banks since it is a part of the Capital Requirement Directive. At the beginning of this thesis, basic principles and three pillars of The New Basel Capital Accord (2004), better known as Basel II, are described. After focusing on the part of the rst pillar dealing with credit risk, di erent approaches to credit risk measurement are introduced. The most important formula for the advanced internal-ratings based approach is then analyzed under the settings of mathematical models it is based on. In the last chapter, the output of the formula for capital requirement calculated for a given hypothetic portfolio is compared to the estimate of unexpected loss, that the requirement should correspond to.
Motherhood as a political issue? Czech interwar women's movement between the "private" and the "public"
Fousková, Marie ; Doubek, Vratislav (advisor) ; Burešová, Jana (referee)
The thesis focuses on Czech interwar middle-class women's movement, as represented by the Czech National Women's Council. Specifically, it explores the question whether and how the Czech National Women's Council thematized and reflected upon the private roles and work od women (motherhood, domestic work) as public, political issues, solvable by public, political means; and whether and how it used the roles of women in the private sphere to support claims in the public sphere. Research for the thesis was done mainly on the Ženská rada magazine published by the Council (years 1925-1938), supplemented by other archive materials.
Affiliative and agonistic behaviour in group of pig-tail macaques (Macaca nemestrina) at Prague ZOO
Burešová, Jana ; Vančatová, Marina (referee) ; Vančata, Václav (advisor)
This study gives detailed describtion and analyses of affiliative and agonistic behavi-our in a captive group of pig-tail macaques (macaca nemestrina) at Prague Zoo. Ethological observation methods were focal animal sampling and ad libitum sampling, data were collec- ted from October to December 2009, the total time of observation was 130 hours. Data were evaluated with MatMan 1.1 and Statistics 6.0 and 9.0. There were three objectives of this work: (1) to describe the behavioral ecology of macaque species on the bases of research literature, (2) to observe and analyze affiliative and agonistic behavior of pig-tail macaques at Prague Zoo, (3) to study dependence of gro-oming upon the time of the day and social position of the individual. We tested seventeen hypotheses which can be divided into four categories. At first we studied the hierarchy in the group. Then we investigated the behavior in dependence upon the sex of the individual and subsequently upon the position in the hierarchy. At last we dealt with details of grooming. Tests confirm the existence of a linear hierarchy based on agonistic interactions. The results show that the movement in run depends on the sex of the individual. We can see a significant dependence of affiliative and agonistic behavior on the sex of the individual. We assumed a...
