A comparative analysis of Czech and Slovak librarian periodicals

The subject of my thesis are Czech and Slovak periodicals in the field of librarian and information science - their concise history, determination of the current terminology in this field and publishing work, description of the editorial staff and the roles of its members, reviewing procedure and editorial work applied to specific examples of both printed and electronic media, specification of formal appurtenances of a specialized article, citation and information ethics. The following chapter deals with the characteristics of the current specialized periodicals issued in the Czech and Slovak Republic. The research oriented part focuses upon the topical analysis of librarian periodicals, further the results of two questionnaires relating to editorial work are discussed as well as various preparatory stages of a specialized periodical. Free and professional information resources for environmental issues

This diploma work focuses on freely available and professional electronic information resources for environmental issues. These resources are only accessible from computer networks (such as the Internet or other digital data distribution networks). The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part defines typical users of such resources in connection with their user needs. In the other two parts freely available and professional electronic information resources for environmental issues are classified and reviewed while several resources are completed with both qualitative and quantitative analyses. This work also contains analyses of resources availability and it is provided with charts and graphs for better understanding of the topic.
International Comparative Analysis of Information Systems of trademarks and industrial designs

The thesis analyzes and compares the selected information systems on industrial property focused on trademarks and industrial designs. These are the selected systems of the Industrial Property Office of the Czech Republic, the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, the World Intellectual Property Organization, the US Patent and Trademark Office and the Swedish Patent and Registration Office. The work is divided into seven parts. The first part describes the terminology and the environment of trademarks and industrial designs. The second part lists the types of international classification, which is followed by the third part, which describes the international treaties and agreements. The fourth part presents selected institutions and their analyzed systems. The fifth part deals with the analysis and the sixth section summarizes trends in the disclosure of trade marks and industrial designs. The last seventh part of the work shows an impact of the protection of trademarks and industrial designs in the business. The analysis showed that the national databases of the Industrial Property Office of the Czech Republic were top rated. The worst evaluation acquired databases of the US Patent and Trademark Office. Projects Wikisource and Wikibooks as information resources

(in English): This thesis occupies itself with the establishment and development of english versions of the Wikisource and Wikibooks projects, with extension to the czech- language version. It processes the information about the new text making procedure and project text modifications. It deals with content organisation and projects extent. The text pays attention only to the tools provided by the projects, because the provided services are results of processed tools actions. The final part is focused on existing ways of using and possible suggestions of using the projects as information sources.
Digital repositories at universities in the Czech Republic

The aim of this thesis is to present, analyse, compare and evaluate the current state of digital repositories at universities in the Czech Republic that use a software application for their digital repository. A theoretical part, which introduces the reader into the issue of compilation and operating of digital repositories in the Czech academic context, precedes the practical reserach. The crucial chapter of the practical part are the results of the actual analysis. The results of a supplementary survey of universities that do not run a digital repository with usage of software application and choose a different way of storage and access to their grey literature draw on the results of this analysis. The conclusion of the entire thesis is the outline of future development of the investigated issue and the perspective of further progress of the Czech academic milieu.
Google Book Search : the analysis of the system and its usage in the Czech Republic

The topic of this master's degree diploma thesis is the Google Books service, formerly Google Book Search and Google Print. The wider general context is described briefly in the first two chapters. Google company and its portfolio of services are introduced, as well as the latest progress in sharing of information, for example trends as digital libraries and open access. Third chapter presents results of the analysis of the Google Books as the complex system. Mentioned are: a history of the service, Library Project, Partner Program, metadata harvesting, scanning methods, available searching options, all information and functionalities in the individual records, users' participation. Chapter four is focused on copyright law and disputes related to the Google Books. Fifth chapter deals with the usage of the Google Books in the Czech Republic, in the terms of all local activities. Great attention belongs to digitization in cooperation of Google company with National Library of the Czech Republic. Two questionnaires were done for this thesis, between college students and large Czech publishers. Significant European national digital libraries

This bachleor thesis focuses on two main objectives. First objective is to map and describe selected national digital libraries in Europe. Second objetive is to describe its cooperation with Europeana portal. Definitions of basic terms are mentioned in the first chapter. Theoretical part of this thesis comprises of description of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of selected NDL according to mentioned model. This model concentrates on user accessibility, description of provided materials and description of web sites. Pactical part consists of comparison of the research outcomes and description of the cooperation with Europeana portal on general and specific level.
Services over digital archives in science and research

The thesis focuses on various information services over digital archives and institutional repositories in the area of science and research. It aims to ascertain these online services and introduce, analyse and assess selected examples in detail. Their quantitative as well as qualitative features are emphasized - The work is logically divided into four chapters. The first one defines the basic terminology and outlines the contemporary status of scholarly communication on the Internet. The second chapter introduces a comprehensive list of services as well as their suggested typology. The third chapter constitutes the core of the thesis and presents the descriptions and analysys of the selected services. The fourth final part includes the comparison of their relevant parameters, final assessment and the perspectives of their future development. The analysis of digital archive Ask the Library

This bachelor's thesis seeks to analyze records of answered queries, saved in their online digital archive of the Czech national digital reference service called Ask your library. Two first chapters are based on studying sources, found within a bibliographical exploration of the subject. The first chapter briefly presents the service (development, current state, function, organization and administration, receiving and answering processes, etc.). The second chapter describes in detail the creation of online archive with answered queries and researching information from it. In the third chapter is detailed analysis of answered queries. The presentation of the results forms a major part of the work. The analysis includes the presentation and interpretation of basic statistics published on the Web site (eg. the proportion of questions within years, the share of stakeholders on answering queries, etc..), and analysis of the content of the answered queries within selected thematic categories (content and nature of the response, used and others recommended resources). Finally, the author evaluates the results of the analysis of the online archive of the answered queries and perspectives of next development of this service.
