Jews in medieval Prague under the rule of Charles IV.

The aim of the work is to describe the importance of Jews in Prague during the reign of Charles IV. Through debt entries of the town court book as the main source, I tried to outline the importance of Jewish financiers in the first half of the 14th. century in the capital of the lands of the Czech Crown. Part of it is reflection on the development of Jewish settlement in the Czech lands with regard to significant events affecting Jews of the Holy Roman Empire, specifically the wave of pogroms which happened in the years 1346-49.

King by the will of Bohemian Estates The Accession of Vladislaus II of Hungary to the Bohemian Royal Throne

The aim of the presented thesis is to describe the ascension of Vladislav II Jagello to the Bohemian throne in 1471. Although this topic has been already researched in earlier works, they have usually focused on Vladislav's election in Kutná Hora while overlooking the following process of enthronement. In my thesis, I therefore concentrate not only on the analysis of the events from March to May 1471, but also on the following months. It was during these months that the negotiations between the Bohemian estates and the Polish royal court were concluded and the necessary ceremonials that made Vladislav Jagello the king of Bohemia were performed.

The eastern policy of John of Bohemia: Czech king and his relations to the Teutonic order

Diploma thesis The eastern Policy of John of Bohemia: Czech King and his Relations to the Teutonic Order deals with diplomatic relations of the Czech king John of Bohemia to the Teutonic order in Prussia in the context of kings eastern-policy. The content of this thesis is delimited by year 1320, when the first intervention of czech king occured in given region and year 1346, when John of Bohemia died. The Thesis proceeds from knowledge of modern and older historiography and comparison of its hypotheses and conclusions with reflection of analysis of sources. The goal of this diploma is to revise the present knowledge of Johns eastern influence, especially his unshakeable alliance with the Teutonic order.

Elizabeth of Pomerania - wife, queen, mother

The subject of this bachelor thesis is Elizabeth of Pomerania, the fourth and last wife of Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor. Using her as an example, this work examines the status of a medieval queen and empress in general terms. By entering into a marriage with Charles IV, a role was bestowed upon Elizabeth to play as the wife of a monarch, from which arose certain tasks that she had to fulfil. She acquired her husband's titles and shared his position of a monarch and as a woman her primary task was to bring heirs into the world. Elizabeth was a young bride and she outlived the aging emperor by 15 whole years, during which she stood down from prominence into a position of empress-widow. This thesis asks what tasks Elizabeth's role entailed and whether she fulfilled expectations placed on her. By these criteria the work is divided into thematic chapters - marriage to Charles IV, the role of a monarch, a mother and at last a widow, all of which follow a rough chronological order, with some themes overlapping over the whole course of Elizabeth's life. The main milestones are: Elizabeth's date of birth (1346 or 1347), her marriage to Charles IV (1363), the emperor's death (1378) and the empress' own death (1393). The Nobility of Moravia and Anabaptists. The Example of Domaine Mikulov and Slavkov.

(in English): The aim of this bachelor thesis is to give an account of the influence of the community of Baptists in South Moravia in the years 1526−1622, from their advent into a relatively tolerant environment, to the expulsion of the country after the defeat of the Estates in the Battle on the White Mountain, especially with a focus on the relationship between the Baptists and the Moravian nobility. For the purpose of assessing this issue, I mainly used the text of the Baptist chronicle, land ordonnances and the archive sources of the urbarium and the tax return lists of the owners of the Moravian demesnes. I also became acquainted with the results of the work of earlier research. Study of sources showed that the co-existence of the Baptists and Moravian nobility was beneficial for both sides. The nobility appreciated the diligence, modesty, and craftsmanship of the Baptists and, in return, provided them with conditions for their settlement, protection against the Catholic monarch and a certain background against the restrictions within the laws of the land. This microsonde shows among others that the regulations concerning the cohabitation of various confessional groups formulated by the land diet were not absolutely put in to the everyday life of specific demesnes.

The Arrival of the Fictum Family to Bohemia during the reign of George of Poděbrady

The bachelor's thesis deals with the involvement of the Thuringian noble Fictum family in Bohemian-Saxon relations and monitors their activities in Bohemian lands during the reign of George of Poděbrady. First, it briefly characterizes the relations between the Lands of the Crown of Bohemia and the area of the future Saxon region during the reign of the Přemyslids and the Luxemburgs. Subsequently, it focuses on George's contacts with Saxony, where the aristocratic Fictum family came from, whom the thesis is dedicated. It examines the older history of this family and the activities at the Saxon court. Furthermore, the work sheds light on the circumstances of the departure of the Fictums to Bohemia, the political background of this departure, and the involvement of King George in this context. The thesis then deals with the acceptance of Fictums in Bohemia, their inclusion among the Czech nobility and the extent of their property in the Lands of the Crown of Bohemia. Anne and Margaret, daughters of Charles IV and Elizabeth of Pomerania.

Thesis deals with daughters of Charles IV. and Elizabeth of Pomerania, Anne and Margaret. It focuses on marriage arrangements, which concern these women. Whereas the elder Anne married king of England Richard II., Margaret became a wife of less noble John III. of Zolllern, son of burgrave of Nuremberg. Distinction between these marriages may demonstrate that political interests often exceeded requirements for husband's prestigious origin and that women of the same origin could marry men of entirely different political- social status. Thesis researches circumstances under which were marriages arranged, aims, with which particular dynasties approach them, process of negotiations and realizations of weddings. From the aspect of different statuses of selected husbands, it also deals with benefits of the solemnized marriages for concerned sides. It also tries to indicate princess's life and their role in marriage policy, marriage and relationships between their husbands and original family. Farm Animals in the Middle Ages. A Source of Livelihood, a Helper and a Noble Symbol.

For medieval people, farm animals represented close companions in many ways - they provided meat and other food products, helped with work and very often, shared the same living space with their human owners. Moreover, they became a significant cultural symbol over time. The presented master thesis aims precisely at the reconstruction of these symbolic meanings in bohemical written sources of the 14th and 15th centuries, using three chosen animals as examples: cattle, goats, and swine. The thesis is composed of two main sections. The first and more empirical part follows the issue of domestication as well as the form of animal husbandry in the Bohemian lands during the 14th and 15th centuries. However, the core of the thesis itself lies in the fourth chapter, which deals with the symbolism and allegorical viewings of the animals in the individual sources, with emphasis on how and in what contexts farm animals were referred to. Medieval encyclopaedias, exempla, the political allegory The New Council of Smil Flaška of Pardubice, and Bohemical chronicles that were written during the specified period are used as sources for investigating this issue. Zvolští of Zvole in the service of catholic church. Kuneš and Beneš of Zvole as bishops of Olomouc

(in English): Feudal lords Zvolští of Zvole, which were fundamentally bound by vassal bonds to the diocese of Olomouc, are worthy of our attention because of the way, in which they intervened into czech internal struggles and european problems of the turbulent hussite war's and unstable post-hussite war's era. The credit for that belongs to their two members, who reached the episcopal throne of Olomouc - Kuneš between years 1430-1434 and Bohuš between years 1454-1457. The aim of this diploma thesis is to comprehensivly describe life stories of these two remarkable men and their careers from their study years up to their early deaths, which were the cause of overlooking of these individuals by modern historiography so far. Making use of biographical methods, we described there Kuneš and Bohuš as hardworking and purposeful students of the canon law, zealous defenders of catholic church and proponents of strict actions against utraquism and influential and loyal servants of king and Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg, respectively king Ladislaus the Posthumous. The knights Kaplíř of Sulevice on the treshold of the early modern age

This thesis focuses on the history of the the family of knights Kaplíř of Sulevice. It covers a period from the first reference to this family before the half of the 14th century until the death of the last male member in the lineage at the beginning of the 18th century. The family Kaplíř of Sulevice belongs among significant members of the estate of Czech knights. In the course of the 14th and at the beginning of the 15th century the members of the family built up their property structure and that time there were 5 descents formed: descent of Sulevice, descent of Ostrý, descent of Solany, descent of Skalka-Řehlovice and descent of Vimperk. Thanks to the Hussite period the knights of Sulevice, the men of great enterprise, succeeded in penetrating more significantly even beyond boundaries of their own estates. The half of the 15th century was marked with certain stagnation (except the descent of Vimperk) which, on the contrary, was in their prime.
