A heuristic approach to resolving graphical point feature conflicts in large-scale maps
Pumr, Daniel ; Lysák, Jakub (advisor) ; Bayer, Tomáš (referee)
The paper deals with automation of cartographic generalization of point features by displacement and selection in large scale maps. In the first part of the thesis, the theoretical foundations of this process are introduced with emphasis on the works of authors who have dealt with its automation. The next part of the thesis describes and analyses the ZABAGED data from which the state map work is produced and on which the algorithm developed in the practical part of this thesis was tested. The main objective of the work was then to determine whether it is realistic to use a solution based on sequential intelligent testing of different offset positions of overlapping point features in practice. Within this framework, the strategies by which the state space given by the possible offset point positions can be generated and searched are identified and described. These strategies were then implemented over the ZABAGED dataset, tested and compared, and a conclusion was drawn on the applicability of this approach in automatic generalization. Key words digital cartography, cartographic generalization, generalization by selection, generalization by displacement, point features, heuristics
Historical map of the Battle of Štěrboholy
Vojkovský, Josef ; Čábelka, Miroslav (advisor) ; Bayer, Tomáš (referee)
The goal of this bachelor's thesis is to conduct a content analysis of old maps of the Battle of Štěrboholy. Based on the information gained from the analyzed maps, a historical map of this conflict will be created. The old maps of the battle used in this thesis are located in the Map Collection of the Faculty of Science, Charles University. In the first part of the thesis, the battle is introduced in historical context. This is followed by a discussion of issues related to content analysis of old battle maps. The analysis of two old maps follows. The last part of this thesis is dedicated to creating a historical map based on the old maps. The result is a detailed map of the battle, which aims to provide the reader with the most accurate depiction of the conflict. The map also contains additional information about the context of the battle. Keywords: historical map, old map, battle map, map analysis, Battle of Štěrboholy
Water on the maps of our country from 16.-17. century
Hlaváčková, Vanda ; Čábelka, Miroslav (advisor) ; Bayer, Tomáš (referee)
The goal of this bachelor's thesis is to perform a content analysis of the management of old map works and then, based on the results of the analysis, to design and create a web map application for the presentation of the results. In the beginning of the thesis, important terms related to the topic are introduced, followed by the methodology of content analysis of old maps. Individual old maps are also presented, namely Klaudyán's map of Bohemia from 1518, Criginger's map of Bohemia from 1568 and Aretin's map of Bohemia from 1619, including a brief biography of their authors. Based on the information obtained from the previous chapters, the content analysis itself was carried out. Its results are discussed in the discussion of the work. As part of the practical part, based on content analysis, a web map application was designed and created, showing the guidance of old maps in vector form over current map documents. Insights and information resulting from the analysis are also included. Keywords: old map, map analysis, Klaudyan map, Criginger map, Aretin map, ArcGIS Online
Map of Kopicův statek and its surroundings (Bohemian Paradise, Czechia)
Peterková, Lucie ; Lysák, Jakub (advisor) ; Bayer, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to create a large-scale map with touristic content of the surroundings of Kopic's farm located in the village of Kacanovy in the Bohemian Paradise. The thesis is mainly focused on the representation of sandstone rocks by the contour method and artistic reliefs on them created by Vojtěch Kopic in the last century. The emphasis is on the use of data collected by drones (lidar, optical images). The existing available map documentation of the area of interest was also evaluated, with the result that the map produced exceeds all of them in quality and detail. Detailed mapping of the objects was carried out by means of a field survey using ArcGIS Field Maps. The final map, that obeys cartographic principles, was created in ArcGIS Pro software. The large-scale (1 : 670) map of the site is in the form of a paper map in A3 format. It is probably the first map showing the surroundings of the Kopic farm in such detail and at the same time documenting the created rock gallery, which is part of the monument heritage of the Kopic farm. Key words: digital cliff drawing, large-scale map, sandstone relief, lidar, drone
Historical Atlas of the Battle of Kolin
Hrubeš, Miroslav ; Čábelka, Miroslav (advisor) ; Bayer, Tomáš (referee)
The goal of this bachelor thesis is to perform a content analysis of old maps of the Battle of Kolin and the creation of a historical about this battle. Introduction of theoretical part of thesis describes the basic concepts on the topic, followed by the metodology of content analysis of the map. The battle is also introduced. Besides the process, the events that preceded the battle and its consequences are described here too. Then, a content analysis of selected maps of the Battle of Kolin from the Map Collection of the Faculty of Science was performed. Results were in discussion part of thesis compared with each other. In the practical part of the thesis, based on the knowledge gained from the content analysis, together with the historical literature, reconstruction maps of the battle were created, which were then used to compile a historical atlas of the Batle of Kolin. It has a goal to bring the reader closer to the battle, along with the events that preceded it and the consequences of its outcome. Keywords: Battle of Kolin, map analysis, battle map, historical atlas, ArcGIS
Testing of altitude accuracy of GIS GPS devices
Žďánský, Radek ; Čábelka, Miroslav (advisor) ; Bayer, Tomáš (referee)
This work is about testing altitude accuracy of GIS GPS receivers Trimble Juno SC and Trimble GeoExplorer 6000 GeoXH. The introduction is dealing with general topics connected with satellite navigation and describes individual global navigation satellite systems. A Separate chapter is dedicated to factors influencing surveying accuracy. The Main section of this work consists of gathering and processing of data gathered from surveying at point with known coordinates and from surveying of an appropriately chosen track. Followed by measurement of chosen leveling program using technical leveling, surveying by GIS GPS receivers was made at chosen points of this leveling program, data gathered from both methods were compared. The results are shown in graphical outputs, where their individual accuracy and suitability for chosen surveying jobs is being discussed.
Geomorphological contour interpolation over triangulated irregular network
Morávek, Andrej ; Bayer, Tomáš (advisor) ; Čepek, Aleš (referee)
The aim of this master thesis is to create an application to generate smooth contours with the method of non-linear, so-called geomorphological interpolation over triangulated irregular network using patch technique. The introductory part consists of the state of art in the field of patch modelling and description of georelief in the form of digital terrain models. The core of the work comprises the mathematical background of Bézier triangle patches using barycentric coordinates and interpolation techniques with definition of continuity. The main contribution is a proper algorithm of balanced patch smoothing in order to generate smooth contours as form of georelief representation. Description of linear contour interpolation over triangulated irregular network as a method of indirect geomorphological interpolation is also part of the core. Finally, the last part describes the implementation of algorithms that forms the application, presents and evaluates the results on synthetic and real data.
