Translating Swedish literature for children into Czech in 20th and 21st century: solutions in translating proper names in Selma Lagerlöf's Nils Holgerssons underbara resa genom Sverige
Kaprová, Linda ; Březinová, Helena (advisor) ; Hartlová, Dagmar (referee)
This paper maps the development of translation methods applied in Czech translations of literature for children in the 20th and 21st century. The analysis is focused on solutions in translating proper names in five translations of Selma Lagerlöf's Nils Holgerssons underbara resa genom Sverige into Czech. The onomastic systems in the source and target texts are analysed with respect to the two levels of this literary work - aesthetic and informative. Following the analysis, conclusions are drawn regarding assumed translation methods which are seen as exponents of translation norms governing the process of translation in various periods of the Czech culture.

Korecká, Lucie ; Starý, Jiří (advisor) ; Březinová, Helena (referee)
Sturla Þórðarson: his work in context of his time and an analysis of the authorial intent The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the literary-historiographical works of Sturla Þórðarson with regard to the specific historical situation at the time of their origin and the methods and authorial intent of this 13th century Icelandic historian. The introductory chapters give a brief overview of Sturla Þórðarson's life in a broader historical context, based on the extant primary sources, and of his literary and literary- historiographical works. The major topic of the thesis is an analysis and comparison of two of the author's works, Íslendinga saga and Hákonar saga Hákonarsonar, in context of various scholars' views of medieval historiography. The former saga belongs to the genre of samtíðarsögur (contemporary sagas), the latter to the genre of konungasögur (kings' sagas). Both works present the same historical period. The major object of analysis is the differences in the author's approach to the historical material in his literary-historiographical works of different genres; this analysis is followed by an attempt to explain the differences. The first part of the thesis presents a separate analysis of each saga in context of the given genre. Both sagas are among the latest extant works in their respective...
Postmondernism and Magic Realism in Forestillingen om det tyvende århundrede by Peter Høeg. An Attempt to Define the Terms
Talafantová, Kristýna ; Březinová, Helena (advisor) ; Hartlová, Dagmar (referee)
1 Abstract The thesis examines the relationship of the literary phenomena magical realism and postmodernism. The starting point of the thesis is the statement that both the terms embody various common features (ideological, thematic). The author targets the definition of both styles and their genealogical delimitation in the first part. In the second part, the author relates these two terms to the particular work - the novel The History of Danish Dreams of the danish author Peter Høeg. It is possible to find demonstrable principles of both magical realism and postmodernism in this wider prose. The author of this thesis illustrates principles and themes with examples from the novel and the interpretations.
Repetition as a means of expression in Jon Fosse's plays
Maxová, Pavla ; Humpál, Martin (advisor) ; Březinová, Helena (referee)
This thesis focuses on the phenomenon of repetition in the plays of the Norwegian author Jon Fosse. The concept of repetition is approached in a broader context. The analysis reveals that repetition in these texts is not merely a decorative aesthetic figure, but a deep structure which manifests itself in all components of the work. It can be observed on several levels, ranging from graphemic and phonemic to the compositional level, even transcending the boundaries of the individual works. As an example, the play Ein sommars dag was chosen and examined in the context of Fosse's complete dramatic output.

Symbol,Experiment and the Fantastic in the Dramas of Astrid Saalbach
Halounová, Lada ; Norup, Lis (advisor) ; Březinová, Helena (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to analyse the experimental construction of dramas by contemporary Danish playwright Astrid Saalbach as well as the fantastic and symbols in her plays. The theoretical-methodological introduction defines the literary term of symbol, allegory and sign with a brief introduction of the psychoanalytic reading of symbols. The second part of the theoretical opening introduces the term of the fantastic and also Tvzvetan Todorov's structural approach to this literary genre. The distinctions between different readings such as the poetry and the allegory, which both abolish the fantastic, are also pointed out in the introduction. The following definitions of literary genres of the uncanny and the marvellous focus on the narrow boundaries between these two genres and the fantastic, which is placed in between the marvellous and the uncanny. Furthermore, the introduction part also focuses on the genres of fantasy and science fiction, as they often mix or coincide with the fantastic in the literature of the 20th century. A shorter chapter also describes the term of Sigmund Freud's the uncanny (das Unheimliche), because it might be closer to the pure fantastic than to Thodorov's concept of the uncanny. The analysis of dramas focuses primarily on the construction, the fantastic and the...
Evidence of eneolithic textile production in Bohemia
Korteová, Judita ; Dobeš, Miroslav (advisor) ; Březinová, Helena (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to describe the technological as well as social connections of the textile production in Aeneolithic Bohemia, examined principally on archaeological evidence from Aeneolithic settlements, especially whirles, weights, awls and spools. Evaluated as for their number, shapes, dimensions, functions and archaeological context, the finds are being related to data coming from abroad, mainly from the pile-dwelling settlements in Switzerland, known as localities with preserved organic material. The thesis also includes a description of the various phases and techniques of the textile production, whose archaeological evidence is being compared with items found in Bohemia. The situation in Aeneolithic is being put in a broader context of the textile production in prehistoric and protohistoric times. Keywords awls, Bohemia, Aeneolithic, textile production, weights, whirls
