The Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo, Linnaeus, 1758) and the Development of the Number of its Nesting Sites in the Czech Lands
Hašpl, Filip ; Andreska, Jan (advisor) ; Hanel, Lubomír (referee)
The presented work deals with the development of the population of the Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) in the Czech Republic in the period 1940 - 1979. The data are obtained from the archive of the Ringing Station of the National Museum in Prague and supplemented from available literature. The Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) is our largest owl, which currently occurs in Europe, Asia and North Africa. However, especially in European countries, it has been abundantly hunted in recent history and its population is still recovering to this day. The work presents a brief history of man's relationship with this owl and describes its difficult path to legal protection. It also briefly presents the known nesting sites and the history of ringing of this owl before the years thoroughly examined in this work. The work also documents the increase in the number of eagle owls in the territory of our state during the 20th century (the lowest number of recorded nests in one year in the observed years is 0 and the highest 21 nests), including re-occupation of the area where the owl was at the turn of the 19th and 20th century completely exterminated. Furthermore, these data on the occurrence are processed into maps and tables, on which we can clearly see the locations of the owl's nesting grounds, which were...
Opinions of Primary School Students on the Dangers Posed by Selected Mammal Species
Benešová, Šárka ; Andreska, Jan (advisor) ; Hanel, Lubomír (referee)
This thesis builds on my bachelor thesis "Selected mammals in elementary and secondary education". It deals with the opinions of 8th and 9th grade pupils of elementary schools on the dangers posed by selected mammal species. Among the selected species in this work are brown bear (Ursus arktos), wolf (Canis lupus), lynx (Lynx lynx), fox (Vulpes vulpes), dog (Canis lupus familiaris), and wild boar (Sus strofa). All these animals are found in the territory of the Czech Republic. In addition to the perception of dangers posed by these mammals, the thesis also ascertains knowledge of and attitude towards these selected species. The pupils also expressed their opinions about dog breeds and stated whether they currently had a dog, or had had one in the past, and if so, what kind it was. The study was conducted on the basis of a questionnaire survey. Questionnaires were given out at primary schools in areas, where some of the beasts abide (brown bear, wolf, lynx). The work also contains information about individual mammal species that were studied as well as the introduction of the domestic dog, its domestication and an overview of dog breeds. Key words: bear, wolf, dog, lynx, fox, wild boar, breeds
Distance Teaching of Natural History During Emergency Measures in the 2nd Half of the School Year 2019/2020
Panský, Martin ; Andreska, Jan (advisor) ; Hanel, Lubomír (referee)
TITLE: Distance Teaching of Natural History During Emergency Measures in the 2nd Half of the School Year 2019/2020 AUTHOR: Martin Panský DEPARTMENT: Department of Biology and Environmental Studies SUPERVISOR: Ing. Jan Andreska, PhD. ABSTRACT: The topic of the diploma thesis is a distance teaching of natural history at primary schools during emergency measures in the second half of the school year 2019/2020, when, in response to a pandemic situation, the physical presence of pupils in schools was banned, both in the Czech Republic and in the most of the countries in the world. This was a completely new situation, to which it was necessary to respond flexibly and systemically in order for teaching to continue to work, at least to a limited extent. The aim of the work was to summarize the experience of science and biology teachers at primary schools in the Czech Republic coming from distance education in the second half of the school year 2019/2020. Moreover this thesis is focuing on naming critical points in distance education of given subjects, defining distance learning opportunities and examining whether such a situation will have further implications for the future form of our education. To meet these goals, I decided to conduct an extensive questionnaire survey, in which I managed to get over 700...
Comparison of Attitudes of Primary and Secondary Schools Students to Large Carnivores, Especially the Common Wolf (Canis lupus) and Domestic Dog (Canis lupus familiaris)
Mejzr, Martin ; Andreska, Jan (referee) ; Hanel, Lubomír (referee)
Today, the issues related to the presence of bears and wolves in the Czech Republic are more frequently discussed due to their occasional occurrence. The significant part of the public still considers these predators dangerous and they even think that a man is supposed to be their potential prey. A lot of surveys confirming this have been already taken, but none of them was focused on the views of primary and secondary schools students. As they are a part of the school education system, their views on the large carnivores should be mainly shaped by it. A questionnaire-based survey was used to find the attitudes of students. The first part of the questionnaire focused on the students' opinions about the dangerousness of predators, its reasons and common wolf presence in the Czech Republic. The second part of the questionnaire is focused on the domestic dog, which has wolf origins. It deals mainly with the attitudes of students to selected dog breeds, dog domestication awareness and views on the so- called "fighting breeds". This work has been aimed at identification of attitudes of the primary and secondary school students from different regions of the Czech Republic to the selected predators. The survey was also taken at primary schools in the High Tatras Mountains, an area where all the large...
Using of Teaching Methods in Lessons of Zoology at Lower Secondary School
Dušková, Olga ; Andreska, Jan (advisor) ; Hanel, Lubomír (referee)
The approach to teaching zoology in Framework of the education programme for lower secondary schools is analysed in this master's thesis. In the thesis, the particularities of active teaching methods, which are currently preferred in modern education, are described. In the theoretical part, the activities which might be used in the lessons of zoology were suggested. The activities are in accordance with the Framework of the education programme for primary and lower secondary schools. The objective is to develop pupil's key competences such as cooperation in groups, formation of student's attitudes and opinions, consolidation of working processes and development of fantasy. The outlines of lessons are focused on recognition of animals living in the Czech Republic. It is emphasized that pupils should be in contacts with animals in the wild nature which they learn theoretically at school about. Suggestions for organising excursions are aimed at certain type of animals. The goal is to motivate pupils to explore the nature. We suppose the more knowledge about nature we have, the more protection to the nature we are able to provide. I would like to mention that teaching goal of zoology at lower secondary school is to be familiar with specific animal species. This definite goal is often underestimated and...
Activating Teaching Methods Focused on Zoology and Ecology of Higher Vertebrates
Gotthardová, Magdaléna ; Andreska, Jan (advisor) ; Hanel, Lubomír (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with activating teaching methods used during Nature Science lessons on elementary schools with focus on higher vertebrates - reptiles, birds and mammals. This work is based on theoretical part which describes teaching methods leading to development of key competencies. Main part of this work includes particular activating tasks created by author of this thesis. These tasks lead to teaching oriented on students.
