Ma Zhiyuan - Huangliangmeng (analysis and translation)

V této práci se budu zabývat čínským dramatikem z přelomu 13. a 14. století Ma Zhiyuanem (Jl; ft.iit.) a především jeho divadelní hrou Huangliang meng1 (~ :W:. ~). Pokusím se ukázat problematiku překladu čínského literárního útvaru a zjistit, zda se překladatelské teorie, které zde zastoupí práce a názory J. Levého, založené na zkušenosti z překládání literárních děl v rámci evropského kulturního kontextu, dají použít jako teoretické východisko i při překládání takto jazykově i kulturně odlišného útvaru. Mým záměrem je především podat ucelený pohled na problematiku a charakter hry Huangliang meng, zasadit ji do kontextu žánrových konvencí a doby, kdy vznikala, a ukázat, v čem spočívají její specifika. Na rozboru hry budu chtít ukázat zásadní problémy překladu a na několika příkladech se zároveň pokusím postihnout výrazné literární prostředky a autorský styl Ma Zhiyuana. Poté přistoupím k literárnímu překladu prvního jednání, abychom si jednotlivé přístupy, problémy a charakteristické motivy představili z celkového pohledu překladatele i čtenáře. The story of Wang Zhaojun in Cao Yu's eponymous drama

Cílem naší diplomové práce je tematická a literární analýza Cao Yuho nové historické hri Wang Zhaojun s přihlédnutím k historickým a politickým souvislostem v době vzniku hry, které zásadním způsobem formovaly celkové pojetí a poselství díla. Před samotnou literární analýzou považujeme za důležité nastínit historický i literární vývoj v Číně ve zlomovém období počátku dvacátého století a Májového hnutí, které je charakterizováno značným vlivem evropských podnětů při formování státu i literatury. Ve čtyřicátých a padesátých letech dvacátého století akcentujeme politické, společenské i literární vlivy, které podmínily a zásadně ovlivnily Cao Yuho divadelní tvorbu. V souvislosti s divadelní hrou Wang Zhaojun považujeme za podstatné zmínit vztah mezi Zhou Enlaiem, tehdejším premiérem ČLR, a autorem divadelní hry i politickou zakázku, o které se autor v doslovu sám zmiňuje a která divadelní hru zásadním způsobem utvářela. Usilujeme o zmapování vývoje, konkrétních prostředků a strategie v literatuře zcela nového ztvárnění příběhu o čínské císařské konkubíně Wang Zhaojun, a to především ve smyslu popsání a vymezení postavy Wang Zhaojun tak, jak se objevuje v Cao Yuho stejnojmenné divadelní hře. Klademe si za cíl popsat a porovnat "novou" literární postavu Wang Zhaojun v protikladu k historicky starším ztvárněním...

The Novel Fortress Besieged: A Translator's Challenge

Qian Zhongshu's novel Fortress Besieged (Wei cheng), employing a wide variety of literary devices and abounding in cultural references, is a piece of literature exceptionally difficult to translate. This thesis identifies the main categories of problems the translator will encounter during its translation. Taking the English, French and Spanish versions of the novel as its ground, the thesis investigates what the paths are that the translator chooses when translating literary works culturally remote from the target language reader. The author starts out with the theories of Jiří Levý and approaches translation problems from a functional standpoint. He finds out, however, that a successful translation requires an effort not only from the translator but equally from the reader.

The Novel Shengsi pilao by Mo Yan and Historical Fiction in the Contemporary Chinese Literature

The novel Shengsi pilao, written by a contemporary Chinese author Mo Yan, is a free continuation of authorʼs preceding writings recounting the lives of family clans in the Shandong province countryside during the 20th century. The novel employs a specific literary style in exploring history of the PCR from 1949 to 2000, using a story of a landownerʼs soul reincarnating itself to several different animals to be finally born as an extraordinary child. Some of authorʼs preceding works were characterized as "new historical fiction (NHF)", a wave of last century late 80ʼs Chinese fiction. NHF revives some of traditional Chinese fiction narrative techniques and introduces certain literary innovations at the same time. Thus it differs from earlier historical fiction, both traditional and modern. Its main characteristic is deconstruction of authorial representation, challenge to legitimacy of the official history and negation of Chinese modernity. This theses brings forward an analysis of narrative techniques, subjects and general meaning of the novel within the context of authorʼs previous work and considers its relation to NHF.

Characters in Chinese 17th-century vernacular short stories

This bachelor thesis has its main focus on the literary genre of the Chinese vernacular short story. The thesis discusses characteristics, process of formation and coherent theories of the genre, and it also presents the most important 17th century short story writers. The thesis focuses on the analysis of features of literary characters, and it also includes a literary analysis of selected short stories highlighting shared characteristics of their protagonists. Individual chapters aim to provide an outline of the characters typology, specific methods of characterisation and the role of characters as elements of the semantic structure of the stories under scrutiny.

Zheng Chouyu - the life and works of the classic author of Taiwanese

Mým úmyslem bylo v této práci postihnout charakteristické rysy básnické tvorby, kterou se Zheng Chouyu natrvalo zapsal do dějin moderní taiwanské poezie. Snažila jsem se poskytnout co nejširší úhel pohledu na Zheng Chouyuho rané dílo a všímala si jak témat a motivů, tak i formálních a jazykových prostředků. Součástí charakteristiky stylu bylo také zamyšlení nad vztahem Zheng Chouyuho díla k tradiční čínské poezii. Soustředila jsem se na estetickou hodnotu básní a posuzovala je jako samostatné entity, i když nebylo vždy možné zcela přehlédnout společenské vlivy, které měly podíl na jejich vzniku. Centrem mého zájmu bylo čtení básní a následná analýza jazyka, techniky zpracování, témat, stylu a obraznosti. V textu jsem uvedla příklady vybraných básní typických pro dané téma nebo pro námět zpracovaný v jisté kapitole. Soustředila jsem se na interpretaci jednotlivých básní a na jejich rozbor.

Modern Chinese short story woman writer Ling Shuhua

Smyslem této práce je přiblížit povídkové dílo moderní čínské spisovatelky Ling Shuhua iii(1900-1990). Budeme se opírat o výzkumy západních badatelů a o výsledky vlastní analýzy vybraných povídek. První část této práce představuje spisovatelčin život, ve druhé části se zaměříme na studie západních literárních kritiků a podáme charakteristiku autorčina díla. Na základě dosavadních poznatků rozborů děl Ling Shuhua provedeme celkové shrnutí poznatků obsažených v sekundární literatuře. Následovat bude analytická část práce, v níž představíme tři autorčiny povídky: "Pomatený básník" (Fengle de shiren iiiii), "Opětovné shledání" (Zaijian ii) a "Chrám bohyně květin" (Huazhisi iii). Jednotící prvek těchto tří povídek budeme hledat ve způsobu zachycení vztahu mezi hlavní mužskou a ženskou postavou a ve způsobu, jakým Ling Shuhua vytváří kontrast postojů, povah a vnímání hlavních protagonistů. V této práci se snažíme představit Ling Shuhua nikoli jen jako autorku, jejíž dílo je soustředěno na zobrazení postavení ženy v Číně v první polovině 20. století a na vyjádření životních pocitů a vnitřních postojů žen v období bezprecedentní modernizace čínské společnosti. Soustředíme se rovněž na umělecky působivé zachycení kontrastu mezi vnitřním světem mužských a ženských postav a upozorníme na některé filosofické aspekty...

Donghai yuge - "Ci" Lyrics of the 19th Century Chinese Woman Poet

Gu Taiqing (1799-1876) also known as Gu Chun was poetess of Manchu origin, author of shi poems, ci lyrics and the first Chinese novel written by woman. Research of the diploma thesis is based on ci lyrics collection Fisherman`s songs from Eastern Sea and partly on shi poems Collection from the Tower of Celestial Wandering. Gu Taiqing`s poetry, of which some translations are included, is strongly autobiographical and it almost represents chronicle of her life. Poems give opportunity to explore her curriculum vitae, lyrics on the other hand create space for Gu Taiqing`s unique poetry language. Gu Taiqing expresses herself in many ways - as devoted wife, loving mother, faithful friend, art enthusiast, traveller and flower fancier. The main directions of her poetry was poetic interview or exchange with her husband Yihui and poems addressed to her friends - poetesses, members of The Autumn Red poetess circle. Gu Taiqing was inspired by each of the following Song poets: Zhou Bangyan, Jiang Baishi, Li Qingzhao, and their specific influence on Gu Taiqing`s poetry will be shown with examples in the diploma thesis. Women Protagonists in Selected Works by Xu Dishan. Thematization of Emancipation of Women in Early Phase of Modern Chinese Literature

Thesis abstract This thesis provides a comprehensive typological characterization of the main female protagonists in the work of a Chinese writer Xu Dishan (1893 - 1941). By way of introduction issues of literary figures and a typology of female characters are presented. The compilation part of this thesis includes writer's biography and an overview of his literary work. The main part of the thesis presents a list of the moral, philosophical and religious aspects of Xu Dishan's protagonists. According to the results of this analysis Xu Dishan is an author, who differs in many ways from his contemporaries and uses his woman protagonists to explain his world view.
