Effect of ESP on distribution and chemical composition of particles from biomass combustion
Preisler, Lukáš ; Köbölová, Klaudie (referee) ; Adamec, Vladimír (advisor)
Biomass combustion causes a significant number of particles that, released into the atmosphere, negatively affect human health. Knowledge of the size and composition of the particles is essential for possible flue gas separation by electrostatic precipitation technology. This technology is developed and used in large power plants, but the electrostatic precipitation in domestic boilers is rare. This work describes the methods of fine particle formation and their size distribution and composition. Measurement methods of chemical composition and the size distribution are provided. According to a review, the effect of electrostatic precipitator on size distribution and chemical composition is discussed. In the experimental part, fine particles were sampled from the flue gas of a domestic wood pellet boiler containing an experimental electrostatic precipitator. Due to operational reasons, the electrostatic precipitator did not run during sampling. Flue gas condensed on the inner surface of the flue. The particles were sampled on filters at the beginning and the end of the flue. The filter was analyzed on an electron microscope.
Toxicity of fine and ultrafine particles from combustion processes
Berková, Helena ; Köbölová, Klaudie (referee) ; Adamec, Vladimír (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with the toxicity of fine and ultrafine particles from biomass combustion. The theoretical part is focused on the current state of this issue from the origin, physicochemical properties, mechanism of toxicity of particles, to their impact on the environment and human health. The following is an overview of tests for determining the toxicity of fine and ultrafine particles. The experimental part is devoted to the actual sampling of biomass combustion, their characterization, cultivation of the tested organism and toxicity tests. The results of acute toxicity tests are expressed in terms of percentage mortality values and then the toxicity is evaluated.
Impact of Operation Parameters on Fine Combustion Particles Concentration in the Flue Gas of Biomass Boilers
Poláčik, Ján ; Masaryk, Michal (referee) ; Adamec, Vladimír (referee) ; Pospíšil, Jiří (advisor)
This work deals with the impact of operating parameters on fine combustion particles formation in the flue gas of biomass combustion device. The research part of the work describes the properties of fine particles, its basic division, impact on human health and the environment. The basic knowledge of the influence of biomass combustion process on fine particles production up to 1 µm in size is summarized. The main part describes the experimental setup for evaluating the size distribution of fine particles. The following section describes the experimental setup with measured results for various combustion parameters in laboratory combustion, automatic boilers, as well as in the manual wood-burning combustion device. The main parameters which were tested were combustion temperature, oxygen amount, type of fuel and geometry of the burned biomass. The impact of individual parameters on the formation of the fine particles is evaluated. The final part of the thesis summarizes the ways in which it is possible to significantly influence the emissions of fine particles by the appropriate choice of combustion operating parameters.
Risk Analysis in Banking
Grycová, Jana ; Koblihová, Markéta (referee) ; Adamec, Vladimír (advisor)
This thesis is devoted to the issue of risk management in the banking sector. It deals with methods application and analysis of risk assessment. Out of the evaluated analyses, there are proposed measures designed to reduce the identified risks at Sberbank CZ, a.s. The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part, there is an insight into the issue, history and current trends. Subsequently, there are selected methods via which the next part is elaborated and in the last part there are suggested measures which lead to the reduction of identified risks in the bank.
Exposure to Nanoparticles in Means of Transport
Maslonková, Ivana ; Kadlec, Radek (referee) ; Adamec, Vladimír (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the exposure of nanoparticles in means of transport. The diploma thesis provides an overview of the current state of exposure to nanoparticles in vehicles that people use every day travelling to work. Moreover, the work describes the health risks that can be caused by these particles and have an adverse effect on human health. The work processed data (particle number concentration, particle size and LDSA) which monitored the exposure of nanoparticles in the tram of public transport in the city of Brno and the extent of pollution by nanoparticles at stops.
Exposure to Nanoparticles in Work Environment
Köbölová, Klaudia ; Mikuška, Pavel (referee) ; Adamec, Vladimír (advisor)
Outside to the wide range of potential benefits, the use of nanomaterials can endanger human health and the environment. This diploma thesis presents the results of pilot measurements, where the exposure of nanoparticles was monitored. Based on a literature research a suitable method for measurement was the three-stage OECD model. Based on this model, measurements were performed in three welding workplaces, where nanoparticles are produced incidentally. The measurement consisted of collecting information and measuring the concentration of nanoparticles in the workplace, where data collection was focused only on inhalation exposure. During welding, 0.3 m size particles are produced and their concentration is strongly influenced by the welding material, type of welding and suction. The particles are amorphous in terms of morphology and contain manganese, iron and silicon, which can cause neurodegenerative diseases. Furthermore, the results indicate the importance of monitoring oral exposure.
Nanosafety and the Current Trends in the Risk Assessment of Nanoparticles
Valovič, Stela ; Poláčik, Ján (referee) ; Adamec, Vladimír (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the current state of nanosafety. The aim of this paper was to review and critically analyze approaches to facilitate the risk assassment of nanomaterials. In the first part it provides an overview of the most important methods and software tools that are used in this field. Methods were analyzed against a set of relevant criteria. Criteria include consideration of exposure, life cycle and physicochemical properties, transparency, applicability and the field of application. Different criteria were chosen for the software tools. Based on results, a new approach was suggested. The approach takes the form of a diagram based on questions. The purpose of the suggested approach is to recommend the most relevant method, tool or their combination to assess the safety of a nanomaterial depending on known characteristics. The approach was also implemented in a software tool.
Risk Related to the Use of Gas Detectors during Fire Brigade Interventions
Ficová, Patricie ; Zapletal, Jan (referee) ; Adamec, Vladimír (advisor)
The diploma thesis focuses on the risks associated with the use of gas detectors in the intervention of fire brigade units, specifically in the case of an event associated with a carbon monoxide leak. The diploma thesis briefly explains the procedure of the units of the Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic in terms of gas detection, specifically carbon monoxide. The work focuses on the Fire and Rescue Service of the South Moravian Region and analyzes the current equipment of fire stations with detection means. The output of the diploma thesis is to design a suitable optimization of the unit and measurement, including financial evaluation in various types of emergencies, in which units of the fire brigade may encounter a leak of carbon monoxide. Furthermore, a draft Methodological Sheet is prepared - Interventions with carbon monoxide leakage provide information on carbon monoxide and procedures for activities related to gas leakage.
